Hoping someone can provide a few beginners tips here...
I'm trying to set up Remote HD app on my iPhone 4 so that I can tap in to my iMac remotely. I've set it up for the wireless LAN at home, but want to set it up to tap in over the web.
The Remote HD website gives a small paragraph on it but it doesn't really mean anything to me.

Can you give me any pointers on how to set this up?

I will be traveling overseas soon, I have a PowerBook and an Intel iMac, I want to be able to access some files from my PowerBook while I'm away, and at the same time, can I use the iSight in my iMac as a surveillance camera? Unacceptable answer: "use the search function, has been covered several times!". Acceptable answer: "go to bed, you obviously need some rest".

This morning and throughout the day this is how my console looked:
My machine became unresponsive at times up to the point that I had to hard-restart it twice. Before today I hadn't noticed any weird activity like this, I looked up some of the ip addresses that appeared there and all of them were marked as malicious ip's.Â
Is there anything I can do to prevent this other than shutting down the vnc access? Is logmein a better/safer option? I need to connect to my machine remotely almost on a daily basis.Â
Why this started happening to my machine all of the sudden? is not like I keep highly classified info on that computer, is a common occurrence and I shouldn't worry? All the attempts are failed, but it got to a point where I'm getting more than one per second, so I guess that's what caused my machine to crash.Â

I have a 24" iMac that has completely all of a sudden stopped wanting to connect to the internet. However, my Macbook, connected to the same ethernet cord or wireless network, works flawlessly and has no trouble. The iMac will find the wireless network...show full bars...then drop a bar....then another bar, then another, until only the smallest bar is available. It will transfer data but only for a few seconds until it wont work at all. Now the macbook, sitting right next to the imac will show full bars and stay that way. So i tried a ethernet cable to the iMac and it will not even pull up 1 single page, but the same cable connected to my Macbook will work flawlessly.

For several weeks I've lost internet connection on my iMac every day or so; the wifi icon changes to show a ! and is otherwise greyed out. My internet connection is via a relatively new Time Capsule (2011) which has an ethernet cable connecting it to my Sky broadband router. I moved to this new Sky broadband router in early Jan 2012 (changing to Sky as a Broadband provider) and it works nicely as a router. My iPhone, iPad, AppleTV and a range of other devices (including an Apple Airport Express connected to a Sky TV HD box to enable it to download movies) have continued to work on the internet without problems.
The IP address of the iMac (27 inch quad core i7, 8 GB RAM, fully up to date on Lion) disappears from the Network settings when the problem arises but the connection of the iMac to the wifi (and backing up to the Time Capsule) still works. I can even use a VNC app on the iPad to connect to the iMac on the same wifi LAN when the IP address has gone and the ! is showing in the wifi icon on the menu bar. To get reconnected to the internet, I just restarted the iMac and it was then back accessing the web nicely. Eventually the iMac would not connect to the internet at all. It would momentarily get an IP address from the router and then lose it again. I then tried taking the iMac to the Apple Store.
Various diagnostics run in store at Genius Bar and during the week and the problem (using the same account) was not replicated. On its return home, it was still not working on the internet. I then tried booting into 'safe mode'. This enabled a stable and reliable connection to the internet! After several days in this mode, I re-installed Lion and booted into normal mode again. The problem returned and has been with the iMac since. However, at least a restart of the iMac gets it straight back on to the internet again. I suspect some sort of corrupted network preference file or the like. But where? The disconnection from the internet can happen any time of day; for example it happened while typing this message but more often than not it happens when the computer is unattended.

I've got a problem with my right fan. If I rip DVDs using MakeMKV, the DVD fan is going up to almost 3800 rpm (and this IS loud!). The interesting thing is that the DVD drive temperature reported by iStat stays below 50 degree Celcius the whole time. After the rip has been finished it takes some time then the fan returns to the normal speed(<2000rpm).Can anybody confirm, that this is the normal behaviour or is this a problem with my system?

I have Apple Remote Desktop 3 installed on my work iMac OS X 10.5 and I can connect to from another Mac no problem. Is there a way to remote to it using Microsoft Remote Desktop running on Vista? Or do I have to use VNC?
If I have to use VNC, I have UltraVNC to connect to my linux box and it works fine. However How do I set it up to remote to apple remote desktop? What port do I use? I use 5901 for the linux box.

I have an iMac in an upstairs office that I use as my main computer. My wife would like to replace her Dell that is downstairs with a new iMac. Both are on the same network and for what it's worth they are connected via Cat6 cable on a Time Capsule. Is there a way to do a remote desktop so each computer can be iewed/manipulated from the other? Also, what about shared libraries, particularly iPhoto? It would be nice to be able to view the same photo library from each.

my parents have an iMac (not sure of the exact model except its maybe 2 or 3 months old). Anyways, it's kind of in between the living room and the kitchen and is used often (among other things) to play music in those two areas using iTunes.
I was wondering if the Apple Remote Control would work well... the only catch being that the remote is IR and that the position of the computer means that a lot of times, the remote would be facing the side and backs of the computer. I doubt the remote would work but I also heard that the remote's IR is very robust.... is it strong enough to be able to used from these angles (im assuming by bouncing the signal off walls or something?).

I've been thinking of using an iMac as a video player in my workout room. I'd like it to be able to grab videos (tv shows) from my main iMac. I'd also use it to play dvd's.
I was thinking of buying a used G4 iMac to do this, but would like to be able to use a remote control to use Front Row.
First, can I use Front Row on iMac #2 to get videos from iMac #1?
Secondly, does the Apple Remote Controller work with a ppc G4 iMac?

Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so how, to stop my iMac from registering when I use my little white Apple remote (the one that comes with iMac, AppleTV etc)? Reason being when I go to run through my AppleTV menu my iMac registers each press as well.
I have the Remote app for my iPhone and iPad but I'd rather be able to use the Apple remote aswell for quick pauses etc., so as to not have to load the app just to pause, skip etc., if I'm using my iPhone/iPad for something else at the time.

I let my iMac sleep when not in use. I have a logitech harmony 550 remote control for my TV. If I press a button on the logitech remote it wakes up the iMac. I went to the bluetooth devices connected and it only shows the mouse and keyboard. How can I correct this issue. The remote control is infrared not RF. My iMac is a 27" Quad Core i7, magic mouse & wireless keyboard.

I purchased a new iMac and believed it b be compromised after a few weeks use and it was remotely wiped but the password was not kept or remembered. Currently there is a grey screen with a 4 digit box and a red sentence that says it is disabled try again in 60 minutes...I took the machine to an apple reseller and they couldn't do anything , there is no apple store near where I live. Can this machine be made to work again or is it useless.

We have iMacs and Macbook pros at work but we need to connect to them from home. I am not concerned with getting a VPN connection. That part is taken care of. Problem is I need a client such as a Windows Remote Desktop Connection. Where if I connect to the Mac from home it just allows me to use the session and not take up a lot of bandwidth for screen sharing. People in the office do not need to know what project i'm working on. Â

I have this annoying problem with my iMac in the same room as my Apple TV and whenever I use my Apple TV Remote, it also turns on a movie on my iMac and that bugs me. Sure I could turn down the sound so I don't hear it but that does not solve the problem.
Is there a way to pair these remotes, I have one for my iMac and 1 for my ATV, and whenever I play something on my ATV it also starts a movie on my apple, usually a different movie. Can they be paired separately somehow so they are controlling only the unit they are suppose to be with?

I've set up an old MacPro to be a media center for my AppleTV. I'd like to set up a VNC client to work with the box so my wife can get her monitor back from me (I'm using her second monitor). I poked around and found Chicken of the VNC and thought this would work.
I just want to log into that machine through my MacBook. I thought that I just had to plug in the IP of the box and I'd pretty much be off and running but that isn't working out. CotVNC keeps locking up every time I try what I think is right. Can someone give me a quick and dirty run-down of what I need to do in order to do what I want?

currently I connect to the internet by doing this: Go to System Preferences / Network. Then I select my internet provider name on the left pane and finally click on the Connect button. That's all. This internet profile has a PPoE service name, an account name and a password. My internet connection uses a cable DLink router (it's not wireless).Â
Question:Â
1) Does the password I mentioned above mean that my neighbors can't access my internet, or are they able to do that and, in this case, I need to set another password somewhere else?Â
2) If I need another password, how and where do I set it,

i would like to be able to remotely access my macbook from anywhere across the internet. but i am looking for something more automatic, than the way i have set it up for my desktop using port forwarding, since i never know where the macbook will be and therefore a given network will already have its router configured and forwarded for my laptop.
i want to have access to file, isight, and screen sharing. i can only assume i need third party software but havent found any.
