For some reason the spotlight calculator no longer works.I have searched the interenet and tried everything but still it refuses to work.
10.5.7
My Calculator in Spotlight doesn't work anymore... I think its batteries might be dead? When I type in things like "4+4" the search works fine, but it doesn't give any math results. I think it stopped around the time I installed 10.5.2 but it may have been broken before that, I can't remember exactly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYou know how you can calculate numbers in spotlight? It used to give me the answers but now it just says no results found. Oh and I enabled the calculator via the terminal command that I found through this and restarted but still doesn't do calculations

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have searched this forum and the internet. My number pad on the right side of my keyboard works with everything EXCEPT the calculator. What did I do? cannot find anything anywhere to address just that. The numbers work fine everywhere else.
I did all the jumps to make sure on the system pref and the mouse off, holding my tongue just right and jumping five times...hitting the option key five times, the fn button and the clear button. the number work everywhere but on the calculator.
Using the calculator in OS X, enter "-2/3", (minus two divided by three). What do you get?
My calculator reports that answer as 0.666. (Positive NOT negative which is the correct answer). Is anyone else having the same problem? The calculator is giving out wrong answers! I have calculator version 4.2 running on 10.5.8.
Since the installation of Lion the decimal point isn't working alright. Not in the calculator and not in Numbers.
1. For instance when I type 1500 in the Calculator the displays says 1,500. That's not correct, in Europe it should be 1.500
No preferences in the calculator to change it. It worked well with Snowleopard. In system preferences Decimals is changed to ",", thousands is "."
2. Numbers. When I type 123456789 in numeric field it's changed in 123.456.789
If I change the last four digits to 2233 and accidently forget to change the points the point stays on the same place. It will say 123.452233 The same if you add a digit 123.456.789 will be 123.456.7892233
This worked well in Snowleopard.
I have a new MacBook (Dec '08) and everything is working fine with one exception. When I type numbers into the calculator app they appear on the screen in slow motion with a nice long pause as each number typed is displayed. On our iMac the calculator app just flies along and has no problem keeping up no matter how fast I enter in numbers. Any ideas where to start on this one? Besides the standard software we have installed Microsoft Office and Handbrake.

Just found this when I was doing a simple sum, lol what are the chances of this.Summary:
Specific Calculation in calculator causes '0' error.Steps to Reproduce:
Open up dashboard calculator. Type 54 - 27 press the '=' nothing happens, press again and it displays '0'.
Expected Results:
Correct answer.
Actual Results:
When '=' is pressed, nothing happens, press again and it displays '0'.
Regression:
Always happens.
Notes:
I have noticed that this problems occurs EXACTLY the same on the iPhone latest OS as well.
And I cannot seem to easily use my calculator widget off dashboard.
It shuts down and beachballs. I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? Running 10.4.2 because I don't want the constant fan on as in 10.4.8
How do I get my Calculator on the main screen so I don't have to keep switching to the widget screen? i.e. I want to have a browser open and have Calculator open next to it.

I am having a whole series of software disasters. Now it is with the Mac Calculator.app.I accidentally clicked 'Update rates' while Calcu;lator was doing a conversion. It jammed up and would not close. Now it works perfectly well in all its modes, and it converts lengths, weights & masses, etc., but if I enter a figure and choose Convert/Currency, nothing at all happens.
I have tried deleting all .plist files associated with Calculator. In [my name]/Library/Application Support/Calculator, there are two files: FinancialRates.plist (which I tried deleting) and FinancialRates.xml. I tried double-clicking on the second of these. Safari opened, but showed a message saying something like 'Bad request'. I suspect that this is where the problem lies.
Having updated to 10.5.7, Calculator no longer displays Paper Tape on my G4. Funnily enough, Save Tape As... still appears in the File Menu.
Okay restarted and it is back, whew! Wish Show Paper Tape were a preference that could be saved, half the time Calculator launches without it, though I never uncheck it.
I am looking for calculator software that does data entry like a desktop calculator (not a handheld kind). For instance, on my Sharp EL-1801PIII, I can enter 78 x 7.75 % and then the + to add the amount I just came up with to the amount I started with and come up with a total amount. I don't have to put the first amount into memory or anything. Also, on my desktop calculator, I can enter a number and just hit the plus sign over and over if I have more than one of that number. On the handhelds and the software I've used, it requires a whole lot more keystrokes. Can anyone suggest something so I can get this calculator off my desk and free up some space? The calculator that comes with the OS operates like a handheld calculator. No bueno.

how do I have the calculator on my Macbook Pro in the same window as a Safari webpage? I'm trying to do some calculations from a webpage and currently need to keep going back and forth to the dashboard.

I'm using the calculator and it uses a comma to separate thousands instead of a point. We use a comma for the decimals, a point for the thousands. The systemreferences says to use a point as thousand-separator, so that's correct.Yet, when I type 23456,57 the result is 23,456,57 while it should be 23.456,57.

Is it possible to create a calculator automation? I have to do this same simple equation many times in the day and would love if there was an automation to make things faster.

I don't really know why this happened but recently my default Calculator starts very slowly. Heck Firefox starts faster. What is causing this? Must I reinstall that particular app?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just switched to an Apple bluetooth wireless keyboard. My old keyboard had the numbers on the right and I was able to use an on screen calculator for doing simple additions and subtractions. The bluetooth doesn't have this which I'm okay with just using the numbers on top of the keyboard instead. But every time I have to make several additions i.e. 10+2+4+9+5, I have to hit the shift key each time for the + key to function. This is a p.i.t.a! Does anyone know if there's a way to "lock" the + key while doing calculations?

I don't know when this started, but in the binary view of the OS X Calculator the bits aren't showing anymore (0 or 1).
I haven't found a solution yet. Could I reinstall the calculator?

I finally go around to upgrading to 10.5 from 10.4. One thing that struck me was that I could no longer copy to the clipboard the result of the computation in the Dashboard's calculator widget. Something I could do under 10.4
I can paste into it. I can copy/paste/cut in the Stickies application. But I can't copy out of the Calculator.I opened up the .html and .js files for the widget and yes there is a handler for the copy event but its not getting invoked.
Does anyone know if I can turn of the following behaviour in calculator? Every time enter is hit, the last entry/calculation is repeated. I want to turn this off, so that something is only calculated if I actually do something.

With Snow Leopard and Tiger, I could see the documents, so I could actually input the figures I am trying to calculate. Now, some weird lego-type wall paper appears as the background. I see my widgets, but not the docs currently open.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to install windows to run a PC only piece of software for work (clampfit). I have a late 2007 Macbook with 10.5.7. There is no boot camp assistant anywhere. This appears to be a known issue: [URL]. I tried to install bootcamp.pkg from the install disk 1. However it makes like a washing machine and crashes (other cd/dvd work fine). Does anyone know where I can download a copy? I haven't time to go to an apple shop to get a new DVD just now. Alternatively, if anyone has it easily accessible and could upload it for me that would be brilliant.
