MacBook Pro :: Spotlight / Search Isn't Working

My MBP 17 (2.6 GHz, model 4.1) with  128 SSD isn't finding files which are definitely on my drive. Seem to only find files on the desktop, but not in sub folders for some reason. Any ideas why? Is it the SSD thats not indexing properly? How can I reset or fix this. Its becoming annoying

MacBook Pro :: Spotlight Won't Index/search External HD (NTFS)?
New mac user here. Running latest Lion (10.7.4) on a Macbook pro. I have Paragon NTFS installed, and reading/writing to NTFS volumes has worked fine. However, I am having an issue with spotlight on my external hard drive (500 gb, NTFS formatted). It simply does not work. Searching my internal main hd works fine.

I have tried several suggested solutions to this problem already. This includes adding and removing the hard drive from the privacy tab of spotlight. I also tried several terminal commands that I found online such as "sudo mdutil -E" and "sudo mdutil -i on". These all indicate that indexing on my external drive is in fact on. Spotlight does not seem to be indexing the drive. HOWEVER it does return results for folders that I have opened. Seems kind of strange. Doesn't help me much, as I am not about to open 1000's of folders and files just so they can be found through spotlight.

OS X Leopard :: Search Functions (Spotlight) Not Working
I have been unable to search for anything using Spotlight or from a finder window. Both show no results. Even when I type in a file that's sitting on my desktop - no results. Backed up drive, performed an "Archive & Install", updated to 10.5.8, and still the function using a finder window or spotlight shows "no results found" when looking for a file(s) I am staring at on my desktop.

MacBook Pro :: Power Connection Isn't Working?
I have a new power cord for my MacBook Pro.  I plug it into the laptop, it turns green for about one second, then goes to orange.  It doesn't show in the battery icon that the battery is charging, but if I turn the laptop over and look at the battery, the green indicators on the battery are blinjking like it is charging.  I keep getting the "now running on reserve power" error.  Now, just two minutes later, all of a sudden the screen gets brighter and the battery life indicator on the screen shows that the battery is at 74%!  How could I be running on reserve power at 4% one minute and be at 74% the next?

OS X Leopard :: Spotlight Search Stopped Working Suddenly
My spotlight search stopped working suddenly. Symptoms: spotlight window very slow to respond, seems to hang every time I type a character (dock also stops responding when this happens). It seems to time out after a while and shows no result.

Tried several solutions mentioned in online forums, no joy. None of the following solutions worked.
A. simple reboot.
B. fixed disk permissions etc
C. Adding my HD to the "Privacy List" of spotlight -- gives Privacy List Error
D. removed folder /.Spotlight-V100
E. removed spotlight prefs file
F. used mdutil -i off/on and -E / to force re-index -- gives error (-1) message
G. used OnyX to cleanup caches/reset spotlight

MacBook Pro :: Display Isn't Working Nor Is The External DVI Connection
My MacBook Pro's display isn't working, nor is the external DVI connection, which I just hooked up to my Panasonic HDTV. Everything was working fine until I rebooted and now all is dark!

The machine itself is working fine otherwise (I have various types of remote control software installed and I'm typing this on it right now!).

In the system info the display is shown as follows:

Intel GMA X3100:

Chipset Model:GMA X3100
Type:GPU
Bus:Built-In
VRAM (Total):64 MB of Shared System Memory
Vendor:Intel (0x8086)
Device ID:0x2a02
Revision ID:0x0003

Display Connector:

while the Displays Preference shows 4 resolutions:

800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1680 x 1050

And no actual display name at all...Without remote control I wouldn't even know that the machine was still working ok.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Search Entire Message Not Working In Mail, But Spotlight Works
I am having a problem where my mail App is not searching the entire body of the message any more. I installed Lion soon after it was released, and I believe that it has been working up until recently.

If I do a search, it won't search the message body, and gives me no option to search for "Message contains" (just "People" and "Subjects"). If search for subject "foo" and then click on the "Subject" pull down menu, it shows "Subject" and "Entire Message", but "Entire Message" is greyed out.

I've done a lot of web searching and most people with similar problems had problems with Spotlight. If I do a Spotlight search, it does find all of the mail messages correctly. Its just the Mail app that won't let me search.

I haven't tried re-indexing spotlight yet because spotlight seems to be working okay. Note that all of my mail accounts are "POP" accounts with the mail stored locally on my machine.

I have a file under User/Library/Preferences/ that is called [URL] I just thought I'd try to search for it on Spotlight if it can find it. I typed myname123 on spotlight but no results were found. Why? Are there any specific strings that should be entered if the search string is between a filename?

OS X Leopard :: Spotlight And ICal Search Not Working In Leopard?
I recently upgraded my MBP to Leopard (10.5.7), and everything seemed fine. Except search in iCal wasn't working. I looked in forums and found a suggestion - renaming Calendar Cache in Home>>Library>>Calendars, then restarting iCal. iCal rebuilt the Calendar Cache (or looked like it was, progress bar and all), but search still wasn't working, failing to bring up events I was looking right at.

Then I tried to use Spotlight, and it didn't seem to be working either. I tried searching for Safari, and after a brief pause, Spotlight said "No Result Found." I confirmed Safari is in fact still on my MBP and working (opened from applications folder). After some more hunting on forums, I found a thread talking about how to force Spotlight to re-index, figuring that was at least Spotlight's problem. Here's the thread - [URL]

I tried what it suggested, using the command line in Terminal, but Terminal just spat back "No Index." So now I'm stumped.I've already tried rebooting, to no effect, though I'll try it again tonight.
