OS X :: Cache Windows AD Login Credentials Offline

Apr 15, 2009

I'm the Network Admin for my company and our Marketing Director just got a new MB Pro. I've used directory services and he can sign in and authenticate with his Windows AD credentials with no issue as well as access all resources. Problem is he travels a lot and needs to be able to login off of our internal network. Windows will cache login creds for offline logins. Is there a way to allow this in OS X also?

Software :: Safari Look In Multiple Keychains For Login Credentials Safari Doesn't Use My Certificate

I was wondering if it was possible to tell Safari to look in multiple or different keychains for login credentials. I have x509 certificates that I want to put in a different keychain from the default "login" one, but when I surf to a webpage that requires that certificate, Safari doesn't seem to want to use it.

Windows On Mac :: W7 Not Saving Share Credentials

Oct 28, 2009

I had been running W7 RTM and VMware 2 with no problems. Yesterday I got my copy of W7 in the mail and I upgraded to VMware 3. I installed W7 with no problems on VMware. The problem I am having now is upon rebooting W7 the shared folder I have mapped in W7 does not save my user name and password. I have to enter them each time. I am checking the box to save the information. Any idea what I'm missing or is this going to be a bug in W7? FWIW the shared folder is on my iMac.

I've found them online and wonder if I just should RAID three or four of them as opposed to one Seagate 500GBs or 750 with 32GB cache? These would all be a Raid run by Apple software not a RAID card.

Windows On Mac :: Procedure To Download Wikipedia Offline On An SD Card?

Feb 23, 2010

There is a commercial version of the entire downloaded offline Wikipedia for mobile phone OS's called WikiPock available preloaded on an 8Gb Micro SD card

However, I realize Wikipedia is always available in a current version for download. What I'm looking for is a procedure to download it in a readable format onto an SD card myself. I would prefer to have it cross-platform so it could be read on either Win XP or OSX.

Does anyone know of an application to do this or a link to a detailed written procedure?

Windows On Mac :: AEBS Bonjour Printer Not Printing - Appears Offline

Nov 18, 2009

I have a Canon MX310 hooked up via a USB hub (shared with a HD) to an gigabit AEBS. Everything works fine under Leopard but no Windows boxes (either bootcamp or otherwise) can see the printer as being online. I have the latest Bonjour and even tried manually installing the printer. I checked the port/IP and everything is as it should be. Airport Utility says that printer is being shared over Bonjour and the Bonjour Print Wizard has no problem finding the printer for me to set up but the printer appears offline and won't print. I have rebooted the AEBS. All boxes are running Windows 7.

Applications :: Need To Reenter Mail Credentials Every Time

Sep 2, 2010

I recently installed a new hard drive; thus, I had to restore my system using a backup via Time Machine. For whatever reason, upon opening mail the first time - I had to re-enter my credentials as if it were the first time I had ever opened Mail.app. That was several days ago and I have been receiving mail on my MBP just fine; however, I just went to send my first email from my MBP this morning and I was asked to enter my password b/c of a "SMTP server error". I entered my MBP password, my email account password, etc. and Nothing works...seemingly, until this is resolved - I will not be able to send mail, which will be an issue.

OS X Mavericks :: Unexpectedly Asks For Admin Credentials

Sep 7, 2014

a few seconds after waking up my iMac today I dialog box was shown: "App store tries to install new apple software. Enter name and password of an administrator to allow this" (the message was shown in german, this is just a translation by me). The dialog box shows a closed lock with a terminal window as icon. Of course I did not enter any credentials.

As I have not initiated any software installation and the App store application was closed I wonder if my Mac got compromised somehow, I have never seen such a dialog without any prior action by me. Scanning for updates after canceling the dialog worked without problems and without asking for the credentials.

Further investigation shows a log message "the software updated has restarted - reconnecting now" around the time the message was displayed, so this might be the reason. As an additional test I killed the softwareupdated process from a remote machine and the same message was shown a few hours later with the same log message, but this is no proof that the restart of this process triggered the dialog. I am  using a iMac 27" with OSX 10.9.4, all updates installed.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Reboots After Every Login?

Aug 28, 2009

My machine: first generation intel iMac, 2 ghz processor, upgraded to 2 gigs of ram, circal summer of 2006. Using OS 10.5.6 and Windows XP pro, corporate edition.

The problem: Every time I try to log into windows, the machine reboots as soon as it reaches the desktop

When I first installed bootcamp/windows, I had some trouble but once I figured out the mistakes I was making during installation, it ran normally. That was a few months back. The other day, I go to use windows for the first time in a month or two ( I really only use it to play Fallout 3, and I've been too busy for it until now ). I try to log in, but my keyboard and mouse don't work. After multiple restarts it's clear that there's a problem, so I go online, research it, and find only two solutions: a repair install of windows, or a complete format and reinstall. After repeated attempts at the first, I ditched my scratched up windows disk and got a new one, and started with a fresh reinstall after I managed to back up my files by accessing the partition through OSX.

The reinstall went normally, and everything was fine until I went to restart the machine after installing the bootcamp drivers from my OSX dvd in Windows. Reboot, log in, and then about one full second after reaching the desktop, the machine reboots. It will automatically start in windows, unless I go back into OSX via holding option and selecting it, then reset my start up disk to OSX. Every time I try to get into XP, the same thing happens. I google it but find nothing, save the one point that disabling the automatic restart in case of error during startup function does not help. After multiple reinstalls from my own new copy of XP and a friend's different version, I get no changes.

Today, I downloaded an updated driver set from apple.com: I install XP again, install the drivers from my OSX dvd again, and then use the downloaded driver updater to update the drivers. Then I reboot, this time using F8 to disable the auto restart, just for kicks: surprisingly, the computer starts up and logs in normally, and I use windows for a few minutes to make sure it's not going to restart. I reboot into OSX, copy over the files I backed up, then attempt to go back into XP. And of course, the problem's back again. I wipe out the hard drive, and start over, thinking that maybe if I permanently disable the auto restart, it'll solve the problem. It doesn't: this time, it's back to how it was before, and I have yet to get another successful session out of it besides the one mentioned just above.

MacBook Pro :: Windows 7 Cannot Access Lion SMB Share, No Login Prompt

Apr 15, 2012

I am able to access my Windows 7 machine's shares on my Mac (Lion 10.7.3) through SMB with no problems at all. However, I am unable to access my Mac's shares on my Windows machine.

I have been fighting with this issue for hours and haven't found a solution yet. I've done a bunch of Googling and have found plenty of posts related to my issue, but no solutions. Everyone seems to be at least receiving a login prompt when they try to connect to a Mac OS X Lion Samba share from a Windows 7 machine, but I am not. All I get is "Windows cannot connect to \MAC" after ~15-20 seconds of waiting.

Here's what I've tried:Reconfigured all of my settings on both the Windows and Mac systems, then restarted. Windows: set to 40- and 56-bit encryption for File Sharing, instead of 128-bit.Windows: network discovery and file sharing enabled.Windows: Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level to Send NTMLv2 response only” to “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session if negotiated as suggested in another post.Windows: verified workgroup as WORKGROUP.Windows: verified Windows Firewall options for File Sharing.Windows: cleared credentials for my Mac's share in the Credential Manager, still no login prompt.Windows: reinserted my Mac's credentials in Credential Manager for the share, same issue. Mac: Enabled File Sharing, enabled SMB, enabled my Mac's account.Mac: verified Firewall settings for File Sharing.Mac: verified workgroup as WORKGROUP in WINS/NETBIOS configuration. For both systems: verified IP configuration as DHCP under the same gateway and subnet mask--they're clearly under the same network.

Windows On Mac :: Unable To Login As Admin / Screen Goes Black And Gives Bunch Of Options

Jun 18, 2009

Alright, I FINALLY got windows on my mac and am very proud of myself. However, I am encountering what I hope is a final problem.

I want to log into Windows as an admin, so when it starts up I hit F8. The screen goes black and gives me a bunch of options, I choose "Safe Mode". Everything so far works like it should. But then the log screen appears with two options: Admin and my regular user. Obviously I want admin, but my keyboard and mouse are utterly nonresponsive , even the little caps light won't turn on. This means I'm stuck there, staring at what I want to click but unable to do so. The only button that works is the power button.

Anyone else run into this? More importantly, anyone know how to fix it?

IMac (Intel) :: When Returning To Open User Session From Login Screen / Windows Have Moved Or / Been Resized

I recently updated by 2013 27" iMac to OS X 10.9.3 and since then, I have a weird problem when I switch from one user to another: I often have several user sessions opened for several account, and when I switch from one to the other, or go to the login screen and open an already open session, I find the windows I had left open resized and/or moved. OS X :: Unable To Auto-login To Guest Account / Safari Wants To Use Keychain Login

Jan 6, 2009

I work for a company that has several Macs available for customers' use. These are basically demo-machines that they can play with, and at the end of each day, the machines are wiped and rebooted.

The way we do this is simple: the machines auto-login to the Guest account, which will wipe the account at the end of the day. Well, getting a few new Macs in this week, I simply copied over the entire Guest user account to the new machines to avoid reloading all the demo content, preferences, etc. And truthfully, the machines have been working great.

Except one thing. The computer keeps giving me that annoying message that says "Safari (or Finder, or System Preferences, or anything!) wants to use keychain 'login'". And asks for the login keychain password. Well here's the thing: the Guest accounts don't have passwords!

So I looked up a little bit on this topic, and did things like... Went to "Keychain List" in the Edit menu of Keychain Access, and deleted both the "login" and "system" keychains. No help. I went to Preferences in Keychain Access and said "Reset My Keychain". When doing this, however, it asks for the new password for the login keychain.

The problem with this is that I cannot leave the field blank! The Guest account doesn't have a password, so how am I supposed to not create a password?
