I have an application called AppFresh, which basically scans the apps I have for available updates, then it's supposed to update the ones that are available. However, every time I try to update an app, I get this response: "Download Successful. Installation failed (Bundle ID's don't match)." What does this mean, and how can I fix it? It'd be a handle little app if I could get it to work right.

I tried to upgrade my MacBook from 10.4 to 10.5 but the CD has a problem. The installation failed halfway through and now I can't remove it. I pnly get a blue screen and nothing else. I want to restore 10.4 but can't get the CD out to reboot with 10.4. I'm new to Mac, now on my PC
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got wiped out by a lightning strike to my cable, and had to re-install Leopard. The first three attempts failed. After about five minutes into the installation, I would get a pop up saying INSTALLATION FAILED, COULD NOT COPY. I took the disc out and noticed there were some small dirty, greasy looking spots that had somehow gotten onto it. It might have been dirty fingerprints, I dunno. So, if this happens to you, clean the install disc first, before looking for other troubles.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was running Bootcamp with Windows Vista smoothly until I decided to install Parallels 4.0 on my Mac 10.5.8. After installing Parallels, it loaded my Bootcamp installation which sort of freaked me out and so I closed Parallels without doing too much. When I booted Vista today, I tried running games that requried Direct X or enhanced graphics and they are not working! These games used to work fine before I had installed Parallels! I even tried fixing the Bootcamp installation by repairing the drivers through the installation cd that came with Leopard, but I still get the same problem!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI went to install Windows XP via bootcamp as I no longer have a windows XP machine, but still need windows XP for a few things work related. The install failed, the CD I used was kinda scratched and it missed a few of the files during installation so I skipped them (usually not an issue as they were driver files and such). Well the installed failed and cannot complete. Now I'm stuck in a vicious loop where it wants to try and complete the install every time it boots. I'm using a non-apple keyboard, when I try to hold down what would be the equivalent of command+option+O+F it does nothing and either starts the windows installation all over or tries to continue and finish the current install. No matter what, no luck getting the windows disk to eject.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been given a 1.6 Dual G5 running 10.3. I tried to upgrade to 10.4, the first disc installed but crashed several times on disc 2. I had run DU previously to check there were no problem. Each restart took me back to disc 2 which failed to install. I then tried to install 10.5 (Leopard) booting directly from the disc, it started then crashed leaving a black screen with the following promt:
local host:/root* (a hash not an asterisk!)
Anybody offer any suggestions as to what I should do?

I got a new Macbook today, and installed the Mac OS X 10.5.6. It stalled so I shut down, and when I logged in again Finder and Spotlight doesn't work. Though my hard drive says is labelled Mac HD: Mac OS X 10.5.6 , I am continuously prompted that Spotlight closed unexpectedly. And when I try to reinstall the Mac OS X, the DVD no longer appears on the desktop and Finder too, cannot be opened for me to locate the DVD.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, i've been offered flash update, so I accepted and followed the process. It always ended at 5% with "This installation failed". I know, that is definitely an error message which says everything you need to fix it. Digging a little deeper, i found this: Flash Player Install Manager[447]: Unable to execute privileged task. Ok, so I started searching for users with similar issues. Every single advice was to do a permission repair which, apparently, didn't solve the issue.
So the next idea was to check if something is wrong with my user account. Creating a new account with admin privileges resulted in same install failure.Again, dead end. Unless using last resort which MUST work. Enabling direct root login and logging in finally allowed the package to install. Something must have changed inside Lion with last updates. The package still asks for password when run as normal user, so it has to have all the privileges needed. Another possibility I was thinking of was that the process drops privileges too soon(so that's Adobe's problem then).

I purchased a game (Broken Sword DC) via Steam and the game runs just fine but the icon in the dock and for the .app bundle has a prohibited sign across it - the same kind you see with a Classic (Mac OS 9) application on Leopard or later. As far as I can see the permissions from the get info are OK the only possible clue is in the terminal doing an ls -al I can can see an @ symbol - which I think has something to do with ACLs?
Any ideas how to get rid of the prohibited sign?
I just got a new macbook pro, and am giving my 13-inch Macbook to my mom. It runs Snow Leopard, and I have the install discs, but I don't have the application bundle discs. So rather than restoring the HD, I need to erase all my files.
What system files and such do I have to erase to give it to her clean?
I recently received an iMac as a "gift"... turns out it has some problems. I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is: Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed.At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm freaking out because my time machine backup failed and I opened up my Time Capsule's data folder and my sparsebundle is gone. It isn't hidden, just completely gone. However, The space used by my sparsebundle is still occupied, and airport utility still lists 60 gb used when there is nothing but my sparsebundle on the drive. I just repaired permissions, nothing changed.

I've now got a bunch of movies I've downloaded elsewhere in HD, and when I create a iPhone version for them I now got 2 separate files in my iTunes.

i use my time capsule to do regular backups of a mac pro and a macbook air using time machine. i would like to delete the sparse bundle for the macbook air and start again, but preserve the sparse bundle for the mac pro. when i try to delete the sparse bundle for the macbook air though i get the error message 'the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items'.
i wonder if anyone could let me know what i need to do to delete the sparse bundle?

I am getting my first Mac soon and am a photographer. I am of course getting the Adobe design bundle first in order to have Photoshop and other programs of interest to me.
But after that I will be getting Aperture or Lightroom... I can get Lightroom for $98 because I am enrolled in college. But if Aperture is better to some, I would consider it over LR.
I'm creating an AppleScript application bundle that relies on a separate application. I want to add this application to my bundle and then call it via "tell application xyz ... end tell"
So far I have been unable to make AppleScript see this application, except when I gave it the absolute path of where it is located. Obviously, as soon as my application bundle is moved to a different directory this will not work anymore so is not a solution. Tinkering with "path to me" and thus creating the current path to the bundled application also does not work, when saving the script, ScriptEditor tries to find the application and see if the commands I want to tell it exist btu fails and consequently does not save.
I tried putting the application into the Contents, Contents:MacOS, and Contents:Resources folders, all without success.
Just a quick question for anyone kind enough to take a moment to answer: I have a 24" 2.93GHz Core2 Duo iMac (last year's model) that shipped with 2 x 2GB (hence total 4GB) of RAM. I am starting to feel the crunch from more memory-intensive programs, and so the time has come to upgrade. is there a clear performance advantage to installing matching RAM sizes, as opposed to 2 sticks of different sizes? I noticed that [URL] currently offers an 8GB kit (2x4GB) for around $260. This is a bit beyond my budget, so I was thinking of instead just getting one 4GB through them for $130, and then mixing it with the Apple 2GB stick which is already in the computer. Would I see a significant performance upgrade with the 6GB mismatched RAM vs. the 4GB matched?

Not totally clear on how objects are installed in OS X. I'm trying to download SIMBL so I can then get mouse gestures for Safari. I've downloaded and installed SIMBL and I've downloaded SafariGestures. SafariGestures comes in the form of a .bundle and the readme says I need to move the .bundle into my SIMBL plugin folder. Where would I find the SIMBL plugin folder? The readme suggests it should be /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins but I can't see it.

In the Backup folder there is a file 2012-05-12-194014.inProgress. Can I just delete this - and move on?

I'm really in need of a new Mac, my iBook G4 still does what I need, but not so great in music production In any event, I don't have loads of money and as much as I'd like to buy a MBP, I'm lookin at the Mac Mini, more so now after seeing it can be upgraded beyond what apple is willing to offer. It voids the warranty but I don't care, I've been building computers since I was a kid with my dad (obviously started with PC). Problem is I can't find a central location about matching up CPU's or limitation and all that good stuff. Do you guys know where to point me so I can start checking prices on things to find out if it's worth the trouble?
