I'm freaking out because my time machine backup failed and I opened up my Time Capsule's data folder and my sparsebundle is gone. It isn't hidden, just completely gone. However, The space used by my sparsebundle is still occupied, and airport utility still lists 60 gb used when there is nothing but my sparsebundle on the drive. I just repaired permissions, nothing changed.
View 1 RepliesI have an external disk drive, with which I can easily replace hard disks. Normally, I use my 2TB disk for TM backups but I had to remove it temporarily from my disk drive. After I have reinserted it (everything was fine) and mounted it, TM did not recognize the old backup bundle and failed to backup, because there is not enough disk space available to create a new backup bundle.
When I look at the root directory of my backup volume, I recognize that Finder has lost the sparse bundle bit and my backup is shown as normal directory.
How can resolve that without erasing my disk and creation of a new backup??
I've deleted 6 backups already and am left with three but the size of the file hasn't changed at all. I don't want to delete the whole thing and start over.
The file size now is 330gb which is ridiculous to me that it hasn't changed one bit since i deleted 6 backups.
We're having trouble with a Time Machine backup. Twice in the last three days, the backups failed with the error message that the backup disk image is already in use.I noticed that the partition containing the backup sparse bundle is mounted twice in /Volumes -- /Volumes/X and /Volumes/X-1. The error message refers to /Volumes/X-2.The icon that appears on the desktop has not cleared as if it's still doing a backup.Looking at the sparsebundle directly gives me the "verificationstate" as 1 -- I recall reading that this is supposed to 0. Other values:
verificationdate == 2012-06-05, and VerificationExtendedSkip == false.Note that the backup drive is attached to another Mac still running Leopard. This is run fine for years over a gigabit network.

i use my time capsule to do regular backups of a mac pro and a macbook air using time machine. i would like to delete the sparse bundle for the macbook air and start again, but preserve the sparse bundle for the mac pro. when i try to delete the sparse bundle for the macbook air though i get the error message 'the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items'.
i wonder if anyone could let me know what i need to do to delete the sparse bundle?
After some issues to get connet to the Time Capsule (which I use both to store media data and backup) the Time Mashine cannot run but return a message that the sparse bundle is already in use. In the Backup folder there is a file 2012-05-12-194014.inProgress. Can I just delete this - and move on?

Have tried remounting Time capsule in preferences. Have run Disc utility to verify 'Time Machine Backups'. Sparsebundle is greyed out in Disc Utility.
Time capsule has 1.37Gb free space and is connected via wireless and has a wireless express as a client. Would deleting the last back up be of assistance assuming corruption?
I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
can't open the program time machine located in the folder /applications/time machine anymore, message says program ain't working for unknown reaason, but I still can open time machine in the menu bar. any clues what the trouble might be? and/or is there any way to reinstall time machine only on os x 10.7.3?
btw., on the system backup hd which is a mirror of the imac system, the programm still works

I cannot enter the time machine when I press the time machine icon. I press and nothing happens, so I'm not sure even if it is backing up at this point. When i go to my Tme Capsule it has the folder there for back-ups and the most recent, but no access from the icon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my HD on my 15"MBP. The install went well until restoring my data from Time Machine. The apps came over fine but none of my data did. Yes, I checked all the boxes on the "restore from backup" menu.
Of course now when I start up time machine the backup isn't there. How do I get Time Machine to recognize the backup? I have it on two places - a time capsule and a separate external HD.
I sent my old and dying machine in and the service place cloned it over to my new machine. All seems to be identical except a sparse disk image that I had to protect personal files. It's just not there. I haven't been able to get onto the old machine to verify yet if it's still there. Would the cloning process have left it off the new machine? Would it's location inside the library folder of my hard drive have become noticed during the cloning process? Could the tech people have cracked it open? Nothing earth shattering on it but still personal stuff.

These days, when I try to add or delete files from that sparse image, I get error 61 code. Why can't I write/delete from that mounted image anymore?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a game (Broken Sword DC) via Steam and the game runs just fine but the icon in the dock and for the .app bundle has a prohibited sign across it - the same kind you see with a Classic (Mac OS 9) application on Leopard or later. As far as I can see the permissions from the get info are OK the only possible clue is in the terminal doing an ls -al I can can see an @ symbol - which I think has something to do with ACLs?
Any ideas how to get rid of the prohibited sign?
I just got a new macbook pro, and am giving my 13-inch Macbook to my mom. It runs Snow Leopard, and I have the install discs, but I don't have the application bundle discs. So rather than restoring the HD, I need to erase all my files.
What system files and such do I have to erase to give it to her clean?
Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.

However, every time I try to update an app, I get this response: "Download Successful. Installation failed (Bundle ID's don't match)." What does this mean, and how can I fix it? I am getting my first Mac soon and am a photographer. I am of course getting the Adobe design bundle first in order to have Photoshop and other programs of interest to me.
But after that I will be getting Aperture or Lightroom... I can get Lightroom for $98 because I am enrolled in college. But if Aperture is better to some, I would consider it over LR.
I'm creating an AppleScript application bundle that relies on a separate application. I want to add this application to my bundle and then call it via "tell application xyz ... end tell"
So far I have been unable to make AppleScript see this application, except when I gave it the absolute path of where it is located. Obviously, as soon as my application bundle is moved to a different directory this will not work anymore so is not a solution. Tinkering with "path to me" and thus creating the current path to the bundled application also does not work, when saving the script, ScriptEditor tries to find the application and see if the commands I want to tell it exist btu fails and consequently does not save.
I tried putting the application into the Contents, Contents:MacOS, and Contents:Resources folders, all without success.
Yesterday I used Migration Assistant to recover the contents of a failed MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) from a Time Machine backup to a new MacBook Air (10.7.4). Using the same external disk for backups, I now have a folder for both the old and new machines in
/Volumes/time_machine/Backups.backupdb/

explain how to reconnect time machine to the old machine's backups. Once I've done this and checked that I can access the old backups, can I simply delete the new machine folder to save space?

I've downloaded and installed SIMBL and I've downloaded SafariGestures. SafariGestures comes in the form of a .bundle and the readme says I need to move the .bundle into my SIMBL plugin folder. Where would I find the SIMBL plugin folder? The readme suggests it should be /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins but I can't see it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.
Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.
I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.
