OS X :: Browser Won't Download Required Files?

Dec 12, 2009

I have a problem with my 24" Aluminium iMac (with Snow Leopard)The problem is, when I try to download something, no matter what (an app from the Apple website's download section, a torrent, a song,...) nothing happens I tried it with another browser (FireFox) and it didn't work either...I'm a little afraid that I will have to re-install Snow Leopard and lose all of my files... (Time Machine isn't configured, because I don't have an empty external hard drive...)Downloading attachments (Word files for example) in Mail, however, works fine...So when i click the download icon (of any kind) it just loads for half a second and does nothing, instead of showing the downloadscreen and starting the download

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Download Files From Any Browser

Jul 1, 2012

I have been trying to download different files from different sites and regardless of the browser I am using it will start downloading and stop at usually under 1meg and then stall and just keep adding the estimated download time.  I have very fast internet connection so that isn't the problem and I can download files from emails etc, just seems to have problems with applications that I try and download from sites.

OS X Mavericks :: Required System Files Can't Be Found - When Upgrading

Jun 19, 2014

So, we have a bunch of computers that we need to install Mavericks on. After the second or third download, we decided to try to be smart and copy the installer to an external hard drive before installing. Now, when trying to install it on some of the remaining computers, it doesn't get very far and then comes up with an error that says something about required system files not being found. I will get the exact wording later when I go back to the lab. The installer already deleted itself from the other computer.

You must understand, downloading a >5GB file on a 25KBPS internet connection is agonizing, and these remaining computers need to get Mavericks on them soon.

I'm trying to work on compiling a "family video" with clips from my siblings. They all use PCs and I'm the only Mac, but they're sending me Mpeg files that I can't open. I get a notification that I need "additional software" in order to open those files and get them working in iMovie.

Can anyone direct my blind ass to where I can turn this off? I've "completely disabled the Safari plugin" but I'm not sure that's it.

OS X :: How To Save/download MP4 In Safari (instead Of Playing The File In Browser)?

May 26, 2010

I think most people here know how to use Safari to download internet videos from sites such as YouTube. Simply go to Activity, find the appropriate file based on the file size. Double click it, and the FLV file would automatically be downloaded.

This also works for MP4 files, at least it used to before the last Safari update a few months back. Now, whenever I try to do the same operation on an MP4 file, it opens and plays the file within Safari itself instead of saving it. This is really frustrating! Does anyone know how to get around this ridiculous issue? I searched all over the web but it seems no one else is bothered by this.

Open With [choose...] or Save file?In Safari, it just automatically downloads the picture to the default download location and then auto opens it with Preview. This is so annoying! How do I set my browsers to just open jpegs within the browser?

OS X :: Viewing Pdf Files In Browser?

Jul 6, 2010

I just switched to Mac and love it. I am curious, however, about viewing pdf files in firefox instead of opening them in preview. I really liked doing this on windows with Adobe reader, and I am curious if there is a way for Preview to display pdfs in the browser as well?

If not, is adobe reader worth installing? Or is opening Preview as a separate window with the pdf still faster than the adobe reader plugin?

Software :: See Local HTML Files On Browser?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm new to a Mac and although I love the mac, I'm having a few issues that I simply can't figure out. trying to create a website locally that eventually I'll FTP to a live site. On the Mac I am using Safari and Firefox. When I bring up the .html file all I see is the code in those browsers. That same code on my pc brings up the website in Safari, Firefox or IE so it's not the code. I'm seeing things about a local server but don't know if that applies to me or not. In the address bar of the browser it says file:///Users/myusername/Documents/Website/TestSite.html where myusername is my actual User Name. I've also now checked web sharing and followed the directions on viewing webpages you put in your Sites folder (which is where I have overwritten the index.html file that came with the Mac) and now that doesn't work either. I'm getting a little frustrated. I'm sure this is a low level question, but I've never used a mac before so this is all new to me.

Ok. iMovie will ONLY save in MPEG4. Got it. Why won't the files open in a browser when trying to upload? (Even if the format is accepted) The files stay dim, as in not able to select. I've exported to YT, Vimeo, iCNN, all that is fine. I've saved the files in differernt areas - other than iTunes. iMovie help is absolutely no help at all.

Safari :: Cannot View PDF Files In Browser Directly

Jul 4, 2012

Using Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2) on OS X 10.6.8 (Macbook Air) when I click a PDF link, it is downloaded and then I need to double click to open in Preview. However, if I use the nightly build of WebKit [URL] - currently Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2, r121825)” it is opened in the same tab within the browser. I do not have Adobe Reader/Acrobat installed thus do not have the Adobe plugins in the "Internet Plugins" folder (system or user). Does the production build of Safari not have a built-in PDF viewer? Or maybe there is another reason...

Final Cut Pro X :: Organizing Projects / Files In Browser?

Dec 11, 2014

I'm trying to figure out if there is any way I can do 'organizing' in the Browser.  It would be great to be able to create folders I could drop the 'projects' or the 'files' into.  I do have my 'Library' well organized, with Keyword collections and folders.

But.... I'm working on a large project.  Every time I add a new video or audio file to a Library (each Library has only one Event - so I can keep my Libraries relatively small) it seems I have to go digging through all the previous files to find the newly imported one.

OS X :: Unable To Download Files / Browsers Stopped Downloading Files

Jul 21, 2010

So a while ago i installed iGetter and jDownloader to handle some of my downloading needs. These have both been uninstalled a while ago and i seem to have the problem that if i navigate to a file in my browser it will not download, it just sits there and does nothing. This is really anoyying as i can't download any files anymore

I presume one of these applications has disabled this behaviour in os x so that it can hijack it and use the app to download files. Does anybody know how to revert this so that browsers can handle downloads properly?
