I have a number of persistent Cookies that show as Cache. Some Cookies are classed as cookie and others as Cache or Locally stored. How can I remove these Cookies that are classed as 'cache'. Deleting through Safari>Preferences>Private>Delete doesn't work. Deleting Safari folders in the >User>Home folder also has no effect.

I just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMore than 100 cookies instantly reappear. I tried emptying cache. I tried deleting individual cookies. I changed the setting to always block instead of just third party. I changed plugin settings and auto fill settings. I don't know what else to try. Still, the cookies persist. Â

I got lured by adbait and clicked on a retailer site. Ever since, this retailer's annoying, flashing ads are popping on sidebars on a number of other web sites I routinely use (e.g., NY Times). Eerily, the exact two items I looked at are what are showing up -- presumably to lure me back!Â
I went into Safari preferences, cookies, details, and found the retailer and deleted. Yet, those ads still appear. Is there something else I need to do? (and yes, I've restarted since then, and gone back and checked, and that retailer does not appear in the list of cookies).Â
Is there some other malevolent thing they've managed to track on me, other than cookies??Â

I have created an automator workflow to remove and recreate my temporary directory in my home folder.Â
Is there a way to schedule this workflow to run at user login (or at boot time)?Â
I've found myself in a position where I need to restore my browser history and cache. I've got time machine backups that I can use, but I can't figure out how to do it.
For Firefox, I thought it would just has easy as restoring the folder found in ~/Home/Library/Application Support/Firefox from TM, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I need to be able to get to the cache and not just the history to get some files that I hope got stored locally.
Also, I'm wondering if I can do this same thing for Safari. There are some files that I hope got stored locally that aren't available anymore.

Just updated my OS to OSX10.9.3 and my Safari browser to 7.0.4 and now I can't run iTunes! Keep getting notice that it needs 64 bit to run and to uncheck the 32 bit box. Problem is, the 32 bit box is not checked. Never had problem with older system. What can I do to be able to play iTunes?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had an Exchange account that I had been using for years. Recently, I switched jobs, and therefore the Exchange account was discontinued (i.e. my user was deleted from the server, emails bounce). BUT I cannot remove this obsolete account from my System Preferences > Internet Accounts. It drives me crazy. Whenever I hit the "-" minus button, the account disappears, but whenever I open Internet Accounts again, it's right back in its place. Apple Mail keeps complaining that it "cannot connect to the server", but won't let me delete the account.Â

Using Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2) on OS X 10.6.8 (Macbook Air) when I click a PDF link, it is downloaded and then I need to double click to open in Preview. However, if I use the nightly build of WebKit [URL] - currently Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2, r121825)” it is opened in the same tab within the browser. I do not have Adobe Reader/Acrobat installed thus do not have the Adobe plugins in the "Internet Plugins" folder (system or user). Does the production build of Safari not have a built-in PDF viewer? Or maybe there is another reason...

I have a 1TB drive in my Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9.4 and I went to disk utility to erase some free space on the drive. However I keep getting the error message: Secure Erase Free Space failed Secure erase Free Space failed with the error: Couldn't create temporary file.Â
I Googled the error message and couldn't find anything. The error message is heaps unuseful, it doesn't tell me why it couldn't create a temporary file or what I can do to fix it.

When trying to download .dmg files through my browser (for example- when downloading the trial version of iWork on apple.com, or when trying to download the app from this site: http://postbox-inc.com/ ), my screen will usually say "thank you for downloading" or "your download will start momentarily," but the download doesn't start. I have this problem with both Safari and Firefox. Are any of you guys out there experiencing a similar problem? If so, have you been able to fix it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirefox has been my main browser b/c Safari 4 was slower for me and also no Noscript. Safari 5 though is noticable faster for me and I'd like to go back. Malicious javascript is still a concern, even if remote. I use clicktoflash, but that only blocks flash. Is there a plugin or extension that will block javascript on a page unless I allow it or whitelist it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFound some difficulties while migrating from hdd to hdd+ssd system.
Basically i want to copy system files only (using CarbonCopyCloner) to ssd and leave the rest of my data (music, films etc) on hdd.Â
I started with installing a blank system to my new ssd. Then Im about to copy all folders from my current HDD, excluding some big ones that I want to store on hdd.Â
So my question is: am I doing it right? Won't any hidden files be missing after this kind of migration?
I am running 10.9.4
It can be done through terminal, its just a bit all or nothing. I would like to show the .DS files on a USB stick for example, remove them and switch back to hide without round tripping to terminal every time.
Can be done easily on a PC but not the Mac i know. Did I dream it or could one show/hide hidden files on previous OS? I know extra menu items appear with the alt but not 'show hidden'
Having the .DS files is a real pain when loading movie files onto a media player or trying to play through a SMART TV. As most (all) smart tvs only accept FAT/ ExFAT formatting the .DS files show in the menu. On media players it's worse as it prevents one playing multiple movies in order and to repeat till you hit stop. As soon as the player hits a .DS it will stop and throw up an error.Â

I have a macbook pro and have recently noticed that when initially loading any of, google chrome, firefox or safari it takes a very long time for the internet to load the webpages.
It says that there is a full wireless connection but will not load the webpage.
Once the webpage has finally loaded after about a minute, subsequent browsing is as fast as can be expected upon my broadband connection, loading pages in <1s.
However the problem reappears whenever I open a new window, or anything else that might use the internet such as the app store, itunes or apple software update.Â

I keep getting the "Startup Disk is almost full" error message even though I know I had plenty of available memory. After searching the forums here, I downloaded Cocktail and cleared the caches, logs, and temporary files. I made hidden files visible, and I found in /private/var/tmp tons of files have been written taking up every bit of available space, even after running Cocktail's chron. A sample filename is 476deede776c8. I deleted these files, rebooted my computer, and I had the space back. BUT, this morning, when I started up, the memory disappeared again and these type of files were again gobbling up my disk space.
I booted from the system install disk to run disk utility. It says my hard disk is fine, but I can't repair permissions. Something about no packets or invalid packets.
I just went through the motions again with Cocktail and deleted the over 5Gb of temporary files, and so far, so good, but what can I do to stop this from continuing to happen?
These problems started after trying to download some printer drivers from HP's website, which was so slow I halted the downloads and cancelled them. I tried installing the one driver that downloaded, and onto a different user than the root system, as per HP's recommendation. This meant I had to use the system install disk to reset my passwords because my password wasn't working. I don't know if any of these actions caused the problem, are part of the problem, or are a separate problem. I can't afford to spend an hour a day, 2 or 3 times a day, erasing these pesky files so I can use my boot drive. Any advice, specific directions, and/or explanations are desperately needed.
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 on a PowerMac G4 450Mhz, 800Mb RAM. I was using Firefox when the problems started.
I'm not talking about a tool like Onyx, which is "excellent". Definitely the best, most simplest maintenance tool/utility.app for the Mac.I'm talking a simple tool for searching, editing and deleting both specific .plist files and cache files on an app-by-app basis. Is there one?I know of PrefEdit, but that is only for .plist (preference) files, and leaves out cache files:
I need, well desperately want; one that does both.Yeah I could use AppZapper, but I would prefer something that is designed for this specific purpose. Anyone?
Still having 'safari quitting unexpectedly' after reset, clear cache, etc. error msg re .hashanimationmaster.png plug-in

I've got networked clients logging in and occasionally having problems, especially with shared logons. I bet changing the location of temporary files from the home folder (on the server) to the local machine would fix a lot of issues.
