View 2 RepliesHere's my problem: I'd very much like to download an embedded flash video from this page: http://bit.ly/d24fEU. (One has to click 'start' for the flash to load.)
But web developers have become wily it seems. No longer do the old methods appear to work. I've tried: Apps for downloading youtube videos, using the Activity window in Safari (only a small SWF file of about 21kb appears in the activity window), numerous Firefox plugins To no avail.
There are apparently apps for Windows that can manage to download these tricky types of videos, is there anything or any method on the Mac? I've been ripping my hair out trying. I've searched the forum, but none of the suggested methods work.
I think most people here know how to use Safari to download internet videos from sites such as YouTube. Simply go to Activity, find the appropriate file based on the file size. Double click it, and the FLV file would automatically be downloaded.
This also works for MP4 files, at least it used to before the last Safari update a few months back. Now, whenever I try to do the same operation on an MP4 file, it opens and plays the file within Safari itself instead of saving it. This is really frustrating! Does anyone know how to get around this ridiculous issue? I searched all over the web but it seems no one else is bothered by this.
How to setup the Safari (browser) to able play all the video on youtube? On Screen: Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available.
Info:MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
It seems whenever I launch a youtube video, there is a tremendous lag that occurs for a good 30 seconds before my video is able to be seen. It completely locks up my browser and freezes. Thought it was my iMac at first, buy Firefox works fine. I reset everything on Safari and still nothing.

Not sure if this is a Hotmail thing or a browser thing, but if someone attaches a jpeg to an email I recieve in Hotmail, when I click it in Firefox I get a dialogue box asking: What should Firefox do with this file? Open With [choose...] or Save file?In Safari, it just automatically downloads the picture to the default download location and then auto opens it with Preview. This is so annoying! How do I set my browsers to just open jpegs within the browser?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to download free sound effects or video files, I try doing a Save As in Safari, but each time I get the error "the document 'click.mp3" could not be exported as 'click.mp3'". In FireFox I can download any of these files with no problem. Did Apple change something in Safari that this no longer works? It's a pain in the butt to change browsers every time I need to download a file.

I've been searching through the preferences I can, but can't see where to make Safari default browser.
Does anyone know how this done?
When I'm downloading, say, PDF files in Safari (4.0.3), at times it will download IN the browser itself, at other times to the 'Download' folder ... I can't seem to control when it does whatever it does; it seems entirely random. When it downloads IN the browser, it slows everything down, so I want to enable it to ALWAYS download to the folder instead (meaning I can do multiple downloads concurrently without slowing things down to a crawl on 1 GB Ram ...).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm on OS 10.5.8. I just updated safari and java. Now when I open safari, I cannot get a browser window to even open. Not by trying to open a new window or going into my history and opening the Apple page. This is really frustrating since I hate Firefox (Way slower than safari has ever been for me) and now I can't even use Safari.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a TiVo HD (Series 3) that I'm attempting to move movies off to an external HDD as it is filling up and I'd like to keep my old programs. I have Roxio's Toast 8 Titanium and tried a couple times to use the "TiVo Transfer" program but keep running into problems.
The problem that I run into is that the program will only download part of file, not the complete file. I don't know if the problem is with the program or perhaps I have the network set up incorrectly? I have the TiVo connected via ethernet cord to my Airport Extreme and the external HD connected via USB also to the Airport Extreme. I've also tried connecting the TiVo & HDD directly to the MacBook (OSX 10.5.6) with the same results as well as downloading directly to the MacBook's HDD...same thing.
TiVo Transfer "sees" the TiVo fine along with all the video files it just has problems downloading the complete file. I've looked up previous posts relating to TiVo here but most are 3-4 years old and I'm hopeful someone has had some success with moving the movies off the TiVo with another app perhaps that works with a Series 3.
I'm look for a free app that will download youtude video or any other flash video. I know I can do this with safari but looking for another option.

I have a problem with my 24" Aluminium iMac (with Snow Leopard)The problem is, when I try to download something, no matter what (an app from the Apple website's download section, a torrent, a song,...) nothing happens I tried it with another browser (FireFox) and it didn't work either...I'm a little afraid that I will have to re-install Snow Leopard and lose all of my files... (Time Machine isn't configured, because I don't have an empty external hard drive...)Downloading attachments (Word files for example) in Mail, however, works fine...So when i click the download icon (of any kind) it just loads for half a second and does nothing, instead of showing the downloadscreen and starting the download

I've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI surfed a proxy web site to access a site that's restricted in my country (Mexico), which was a bad idea, but I needed to access that site. In any case, about twice when I was browsing from the proxy site, a file named "About-Blank" (not exe, don't know what they where) was downloaded to my "Downloads" folder. I deleted the files and that was that, I was just wondering how is it that safari downloaded a file without prompting me? and could there be any repercussions for my system?
