Ok so i just got a mac and this is the first time im ever using one, I love it btw, but i cant download .zip files from various things every time I try and download a .zip file this message comes up

These have both been uninstalled a while ago and i seem to have the problem that if i navigate to a file in my browser it will not download, it just sits there and does nothing.This is really anoyying as i can't download any files anymore
I presume one of these applications has disabled this behaviour in os x so that it can hijack it and use the app to download files. Does anybody know how to revert this so that browsers can handle downloads properly?
Every time someone sends me a file, usually jpg, i 'accept' and the file doesn't automatically download. I tried to put it into the pictures file. Where do yahoo messenger file transfers normally save on your Mac?

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast night, I downloaded Parallels onto my computer and everything was fine. I then downloaded the Windows 7 files from the Microsoft Store and the download speed was excellent -- took about 30 minutes to download ~300 GB of files. After attempting to click on these files to open them, they wouldn't open, and I realized that I should have purchased through the Parallels online store.
Shortly after this, I realized that my Internet speed was very slow, maybe 2-3 KB/sec. I uninstalled Parallels and cleared the Windows files from the Downloads screen, but Internet was still slow. Installing Windows can wait for another time (and maybe I'll just use Boot Camp instead). For now, all I want is to get my fast Internet speed back.

When I try to download something from download.com or other websites, it just goes to a blank page and the download never happen, I open the download tab and saw it was blank.
this really frustrating, its the same on Safari and mozilla on my Mac.
When I attempt to download a .wmv file, it appears to download (as evidenced in download manager) but then stalls forever and never finishes the job. I can download other media files without problem. I have updated WMP. Im on G4 PB 10.4.3.

My instructors post lecture notes in pdf format on our online learning site and they won't download when I click on the link. Now I have to physically go in and save them to the computer in order to view them. This just started happening this morning.

Why does my mac stop downloading files, copying to clipboard, saving files to desktop, etc?
iMac g5 1.9 ghz 17" running 10.5.8. Had a hard drive crash and bought a new one. Loaded new OS leapord. Everything works fine at first, but after the computer has been on for a while, it will stop downlading files, disk verify doesn't work. I can't copy and paste stuff. It seems as if the hard drive is full, but I have only used 32GB of 300GB.
When I restart, it works again, then slowly not. Is it an overheating issue? How do I know if my fan is running? Is it a bad hard drive I put in it? Bought it new with three year waranty.
On Rapidshare, I've download a lot of files such as .rar files on my mac and everything has worked fine. Up until today, I downloaded a few and they are windows files because they have the parallels symbol (Yes I have parallels) but my parallels isn't running. So i went back and tried to download old files that I had previously been opened with Mac OSX and they too are opening as parallel files. I dont understand why all the files want me to download the windows version. The only thing that I changed was i finally upgraded my MacPar Deluxe because there was a new version but that's the only thing. So can someone please help me fix this problem. I dont want to download windows files while on my mac.

I'm downloading different files into excel (some tab delimited, some csv, some xls) from different places and they all open in excel with incredibly weird formatting. Basically the separation of each column makes no sense. When other people download the same exact files, their files appear normally, with each category in a different column. So there's something going on with my excel.
When I download a credit card statement, for example, it comes out like this:
"02/03/2010$18""82USPS 35960795520803QPS NEW YORK XXXXXXXXXXXXXX48(Standard Purch)"
With the quotes showing the columns... so the date and half of the price are in one column and the cents from the price and the vendor and the last four digits in the second column.
mp3 and pdfs get "0 bytes of ? - network connection lost" when I try Download linked file or Download link file as...

It works fine in Chrome.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs stated in the title, when I try to download a file from the internet, clicking on the link associated to the file will not start a download, but instead opens a new tab in my browser showing the url of the associated file. If I then right-click and choose 'Download linked file as...' the file can be downloaded with no issues in most of the cases, at least as long as the website allows right-click downloads to happen.I have tried resetting Safari, emptying the cache and, of course, updating my software. It is a midly annoying problem, but it doesn't happen when I use other web browsers in my iMac.

There seems to be a pattern with major updates from Apple and the ability of the servers providing the content - be it iTunes or iOS or Mac OS updates - I have been unable to download successfully the larger updates but smaller (22MB for AirPort Utility) work fine. The annoying thing is that in almost all cases the error doesn't occur until after the download is complete - meaning it takes up all the time and bandwidth etc with no result and you have to start all over again.
This has happened to enough people and with enough different software releases that I posit that it is not the result of any particular configuration of networking and or hardware and or firmware and or OS version etc - but that the it is a systemic issue on the provider side of things.
Perhaps they (Apple's content providers) should stagger access or something - by time zone - or Apple should release updates over the course of a week - not all on the same day. I would much rather get a message that the server is busy try agian later - or have one update a day - and have it work on the first try - that to waste time retrying the same downloads over and over again.

When i was using xp, my macbook (running leopard) picked up my shared folders on my home network just fine, and several other wireless networks... now despite having the shared folders in vista set up and the network configured... leopard is showing nothing....its as if there's no network there.
the internet runs fine (on the network) but it won't access my shared files.. so there are no network problems, its a software issue either with vista or leopard... what am i doing wrong?
I have a problem with downloading files on my OSX partition. When using firefox/opera/safari to download a file, I often get an error "the source file could not be read, please try again later or contact system administrator" (Firefox) the other browsers just stop.
I tried repairing disk and permission repair, but no luck. Does anyone of you guys experienced similar problem or know how I can fix this? please let me know.

i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a mac mini with 10.5.6 leopard installed connected thru hdmi cable I believe it's called to my samsung LCD display.
Now the problem is when 10.5.7 was introduced I suffered display resoultion problems like some other people too who have the mac mini. I spoke to apple who said they were aware of the issue and for me to do a archive and install to go back to 10.5.6. Which I did. They told me that they will send the info to apple engineers in the USA so they can work on a fix. This was all discussed when 10.5.7 was released. Now that new safari has been launched safari4. I am unable to download this as it asks me to install 10.5.7. I spoke to apple last night who said they still don't have any updates on this issue yet. They said they will try look into this and get back to me. In the mean time I an stuck with current version of safari I have and a less secure 105.6 OS. As I believe 10.5.7. Improves security on my system.

View 10 Replies View Relatedi have an imac 21' with OS 10.5 leopard and all the updates installed and everything is supposed to be running smoothly.and i use the iStat pro to track everything. a week ago, i noticed something really strange. something is downloading on my computer and eating all the bandwidth to the extent i can't even browse the internet. i quit all the programs running but still it was not faltering. the only thing that seemed to work is to turn off airport and turning it on again, is there any other way to know what is doing that to me and how to stop it. i read somewhere about littlesnitch but it did not help me. any suggesstions on what does this and how to manage it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldn�t be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didn�t want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to �look for� every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I don�t know if I was able to make my question really clear�
I cannot believe I am actually in this position, but I accidentally reformatted my lacie 1TB external HD. The files were not overwritten as it was the most basic and quick format option, but they are not accessible.
Can anyone recommend a good data recovery app that works for OS X?

I have tried moving them to the trash, as well as using the move to trash button. They seam to go to the trash can but when I delete the trash they are still in the file. I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. I am getting an external hard drive soon but don't want these files on it.

If I download and burn mac applications on a pc CD with win2k will a new MBP be able to read the disk and use the application installers without a hitch? From what I remember, don�t PC�s add an extra bit or something that corrupts the file somewhat? I also have an old Mac with OS9 on it, should I just download the apps on there and burn them with it instead?
