When I install an update via Software Update, the installation appears in System Preferences/Software Update/Installed Updates, but then permanently disappears after a period of time. Same issue in Software Update.log.Is this normal?

My computer keeps notifying me that updates available when they've already been installed and are listed as installed.Â
The Command Line Tools, for instance, are listed as installed a half dozen times or so, yet it's cosnattly being offered as an available update. The list of updates available for the computer keeps growing, but they're all installed. Update All or Update will run and go through the process, but the list never clears.Â
How do I get Updates to work properly and recognize what updates are already installed?

I previously installed a demo of iWork and life but after the trial period uninstalled it. Well I've now bought the licensed copies of each. Upon install and trying to launch iWork or iLife I'm getting prompted for my serial number, and of course the discs do not require a number.Do i have to call Apple or is this a common, easy fix?

I use Firewire 800, and my external has 80GB free on it. Both it and my iMac's drives are 320GB. What's with the extended period of preparation, going on 15 minutes now, maybe longer. Backup still didn't begin, this never used to happen me before. I only backed up 2 days ago?
Also, why when I click the Time Machine menubar item to open Time Machine prefs does the DVD (iLife '09) in my optical drive make a noise as if it's being accessed? It spins up a little too. Seems very odd, and it's not a coincidence, it happens exactly when I try to open Time Machine prefs from its menubar item. I could do it 5 times in succession and the optical drive would make the same accessing noise each time, on cue
Hey everyone, so I keep seeing posts about how much SSDs degrade over the first week/two after using an SSD (one that comes WITH the MBP). However, how much do they degrade after...say....6 months-1 year (or even longer)? I know they are still new hardware, but I'm sure some people have an idea. Is it really THAT significant of a speed and performance decrease?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with my Mac Pro for the last few days. When I am not encoding or downloading anything for the night, I usually turn it off. Recently though, if I turn it off, and then turn it on the next evening (around 16 hours later) then it will not turn on right away, and by that I mean that the fans turn on, I see the little white light turn on, but I don't hear the startup chime, the lights don't turn on on my logitech keyboard, and my screen stays black, the monitor itself not detecting any signal.
It may take up to 20 minutes of pressing the power button and turning it on and off until I hear the startup chime and see the apple on screen, but then it usually resets itself once and then it loads up to mac os. Once the Mac Pro has been turned on once though, I can turn it on and off without any problems it seems.
I just don't understand why this would be happening. One thing I thought was that we had an electrical outage a few days ago but all my other computers were fine and I am using a special bar to connect my stuff to make sure that when there is an electrical outage, no damage is done to my computers. The weird part is that the problems started appearing on the next day so I was wondering if that could have affected my computer and how.
I had problems with the existing installation (10.6.8) ==> only Safari. Therefor I mad the update to the current version today, the problem is different but Safari stays effected. A Reinstallation of Maverik is not solving the issue ==> the same error stays alive ...Â

I have a MacBook with OS X 10.5 and I was looking at some of the updates I had installed and wanted to delete some that were irrelevant and that I shouldn't have installed in the first place. Somehow I deleted everything in the "Installed Updates" list, I know they are still on the computer because when I check for updates nothing new shows up. Is there any way to repopulate this list with the updates I have installed and is there anyway to remove the ones that I downloaded too hastily or should I just carry on since it is not a major issue? Of course I did not have Time Machine up and running yet.

When I run Softare Update (27' iMac, OSX 10.7.3), the application finds the needed updates and displays the usual updates available window. However when I click on Install (whether ot not i open up the details window), the update window disappears, the application icon remains on the dock with the dot uderneath indicating and open application but nothing happens.

I installed the software updates pushed to me the week of May 7, 2012 (installed them May 12th) and now cannot open certain web pages (examples www.cnn.com and www.ancestry.com) but am able to open others (ex. www.harrynorman.com). I installed an update to safari, one for security and another I cannot recall. Rebooted (twice) and still having the same problem. I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7.

When I open my laptop occasionally it has obviously recognized updates and gives me the option to install, I click yes or ok can't remember. When I do it asks me to restart, which I do.When I restart it appears as if it never installed the updates?? View 17 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason, when I installed Snow Leopard it did not automatically install the updates for the printer drivers already installed in my computer.
I then tried to manually install the printer drivers using the SL disk and still no luck. The printers that I use are both wireless and work when they are connected with USB. Am I missing something? I'm reading all over about how people have made the upgrade with no problems at all so I'm there's got to be something I'm not doing.
When I check for software updates only itunes and random other updates show up but not security updates or safari update. When i check installed updates I realized my last security update was 2011-004 and I still have safari 5.0.6.

Usually they disappear when its done. This time it didn't. What am I supposed to do with it? Why do they show up and should I have been moving them all along?
I'm not quite sure what's going on here, but my iMac seems to be permanently running Time Machine to back up to my Time Capsule.Â
It's literally just completed a 131Mb backup and has started now another one!Â
These backups seem to be extremely slow, yet the TC is connected using an ethernet connection.Â
Is it possible that my antivirus software is slowing the backup process down so much, that the next hourly backup starts almost immediately?Â
My TC is just over half full.Â
Also, when I Enter Time Machine, it takes ages - well, 5 to 10 minutes, really - before I can start scrolling through my old files.Â

When I remove the 1tb USB HDD the Time Machine repairs. I have checked Finder and Disk Utility and it does not show there either.
