MacBook :: Easy Way To Clone New SSD HD Before Installation?

Sep 4, 2014

My Macbook, 2007 vintage with osx 10.6.8 and an 80GB original HD is going to get a new brain....a 240 GB HD.  I have the USB cable to connect the new HD to the laptop before swap of the drives.  Is there an easy way to transfer the appropriate info from the old HD to the new SSD before the hardware swap?I have a backup plan to use my external backup drive to do this but that would seem rather cumbersome.

OS X :: Option To Clone Install Disk, Don't Need To Clone?

Aug 30, 2010

I have a Macbook running on snow leopard and I wanna upgrade my internal hard drive as it is currently too small. I downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned my entire hard drive to an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Now, I have that new internal hard drive from wester digital. What do I do with it? replace the current internal hard drive with the new harddrive and then how do I get the data from the external hard drive with my cloned data to the fresh western digital? Do I boot first from external hard drive etc? I am not sure what to do now?when I was given the option which hard drive to clone (or which part of the hard drive to clone) there was also the option to clone "Install Disk". I don't need to clone that, right?

MacBook Pro :: Cleaning (Unibody) - Finding Easy Way

Nov 30, 2008

This thread is geared towards MB/MBP owners, (specifically those with the late 2008) models. Its very easy to add stain-art to the cosmetics of any laptop. Drops of soup love to introduce themselves to the trackpad and rain drops may bounce off your jacket onto the screen on a wet day. If you're like me, you're heavily bothered by the slightest imperfection and hesitant to clean it, especially the screen.

MacBook Pro :: Finding Easy Way To Get DVD Player To Work On Ext. Drive?

Oct 17, 2009

Now for the rub:

I've looked a fair bit and can't seem to find any way remotely easy to use the Apple DVD Player app. with my SD & optibayed MBP. VLC works but it isn't nearly as elegant or easy to use. I've scabbed up two loadings of Snow Leopard trying to replace frameworks/DVD files to get this to work. Interesting that the MBA can use DVD Player with the modified SD & all other computers w. an attached optical can use DVD Player too.

Has anyone been able to hack this easily? The only thing I can find is Macbidouille did an Hex edit of the framework/dvd file but there's quite a bit lost in translation. This should be the same problem any ext. DVD player has.

MacBook Pro :: Easy Way To Enable / Disable Function Keys From Toolbar

Jun 9, 2010

I commonly work with remote desktops (using Citrix) on Windows servers from my MacBook Pro. The apps I commonly use require the use of Function keys. I know I can go into System Preferences to change how they work (turning the Fn option on or off), but this is difficult to do with the frequency I need to. When I'm not remoted in, I prefer to keep my keys as the normal Mac functions. Is there a utility for my Menu Bar that will let me quickly toggle this option, without needing to go into System Preferences each time? I looked up FunctionFlip, but it does individual keys, and no longer has a Menu Bar icon.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Pro Compatible With  Easy Photo Print Pro Software?

Mar 24, 2012

I just recently bought a Macbook Pro, i7 intel computer. I have a Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II that I have been using just as a printer, however I'm wondering about being able to use the Easy Photo Print Pro software from Canon software so that I would be able download photos to my computer? If so, what supporting program or software do I need to install first from Apple? Can I use this Canon software so that I can use the Pixma as a scanner than upload to my computer so that I can edit my photos? I'm new at Apples and Scanners, so I'm not sure that this is possible.

MacBook Pro :: How To Clone A Drive/mac?

Sep 10, 2010

I had some problems with my 17" MacBook Pro and needed a replacement immediately. The Apple Store didn't have a 17" that met my requirements so I bought a 13" that I plan to give to my wife to replace her 13" non-pro.

So. I'm ordering a 17" over the Internet. When it arrives, I'd love to avoid ALL the configuration that I just went through to get this new 13" setup like my old 17". Is there any way to completely clone the drive in my 13" MBP completely and transfer the data to the new 17" MBP when it arrives?

MacBook Pro :: Clone Or Restore From Old To New

Jun 25, 2012

I have a 2010 MBP (OX10.7), and just ordered one of the newly released MB Retina. I will get it sometime in July. All my regular files and settings are both on an external and on sugarsync. If I just needed to restore those to the new MB- it would be no big deal.

Besides the everyday use of a MBP, I am a analytics professional. So, on my MBP, I have lots of programs (usual and unusual), a Mysql database, a Windows 7 partitiion (via parallels) with Office for Win, a few other analytics programs like R, datamining and some of their extensions and GUI interfaces, apple scripts, etc.

It is these that take hours to reinstall and get back to normal.

When I get the new MB Retina can I restore/transfer those as well? Are there any downsides to doing this? Do I use migration assitant? Something better?

MacBook Pro :: Booting From Carbon Copy Clone

Jun 29, 2012

I bought a Retina Macbook a couple of days ago, and rather than migrating with Setup/Migration Assistant from my old MBP (2.26GHz, running 10.7.4), I wanted to start fresh & manually migrate the stuff I want to keep for the new machine. My intention is to wipe the old MBP with a fresh Lion install for my wife. As a precaution (in case I forget something crucial) I made a Carbon Copy clone of the old HD, saved onto a 2TB Seagate Backup Plus external drive. The Seagate is USB3, with optional adapters for Firewire and Thunderbolt.

I formatted the drive & setup 2 partitions, both MAC OS Extended (Journaled), GUID partition, one for the clone, the second for general storage, and the clone process went smoothly. I checked that I was able to boot from the clone on the old MBP, with no problems. However, when I attempt to boot the clone on the Retina MBP, I get the grey screen & no entry sign. Same if I try through system prefs, startup disk. Why the clone will boot onto the old MBP, but not the Retina?

Laptops :: Clone My MacBook Pro To A Lacie Exteral Drive?

Nov 13, 2009

I just purchased a MacBook Pro running the latest Leopard OS. I hooked up a Lacie external HD using FW 800 to backup a bootable system of my complete HD. I used Intego Personal Backup. All seemed to go well and the backup showed up on my startup screen in Preferences. Problem is it will not boot my sytem up. Tried twice and cleared my Lacie prior to backup. The Lacie also showed up as a startup disc when I did an Option startup. Never had such a problem with Tiger but I always used FW which the MacBook does not have. I am now trying Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup but it is not complete. Does the MacBook using Leopard have any special requirements for a backup such as a particular cable cable to use?

MacBook Pro :: Is There A Way To Clone A Dual-boot Hard Drive?

Nov 23, 2010

I recently bought a Macbook Pro with a 200gb hard drive. Right now I am running bootcamp dual-booting OSX 10.6.5 and Windows7 100gb partitions each. I just got done configuring everything and then my friend offered me a 500gb hard drive for $50 so of course I had to buy it.

I am wondering if it is possible for me to clone the hard drive I currently have to the new 500gb hard drive and then extend the partition sizes so I don't have to go through and reinstall everything on the Windows side again.

MacBook :: Clone OS Leopard - Bootcamp To Larger Drive

Jul 19, 2009

I have a Macbook (about a year and a half old) with 250 G hard drive which is partitioned in half. One half has Mac Os (leopard) and the other bootcamp partition is Windoze xp. I use both equally. I am planning to get a 500-750 G 2.5 inch hard drive and clone my entire hard drive to it so I will have more room (and also a good backup if the need ever arises). Since my drive has BOTH the Mac os and the bootcamp partiton with windoze on it, I need to clone them both over to the new drive. I believe superduper just clones the OS portion and I really don't want to re-install the windows stuff unless i have to! I read that winclone can clone the windoze partitian. SO THIS IS MY PLAN. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS WILL WORK. Is this right? Did I leave anything out? Is there a better way?

1. Get new larger drive and put in a separate powered enclosure
2. Connect to my macbook with usb connector
3. Use superduper to clone the Mac Os to the new drive.
4. Use Winclone to clone the bootcamp (windoze) partition to the new drive
5. Replace the old smaller drive with the new drive.

I think this would work, but am not sure how or when i have to partition the new drive to work with winclone. or does winclone do this automatically?

MacBook Pro :: Can Use Disk Utility Recovery To Clone Original Hdd To A New One

Apr 16, 2012

My original hdd refuses to boot up, and using disk utility via recovery mode to try and fix it just gives me an error "disk utility stopped repairing the drive, salvage data and format etc." giving an error about invalid node structure or something. Tried using target disk mode with a friend's mac when I was at work but the drive didn't even want to mount. Assuming it's about to die, I have just bought a new hdd (XT Hybrid) and since my mac is pre-Lion era (2010 model) I don't have a built in recovery mode, but strangely enough hooking up my old hdd with a dock and option-booting to it I can still access the recovery HD partition on it.

So I was thinking if i can essentially "clone" my original hdd to the new one using the restore tab on disk utility, and try using disk repair on it to get it working? or is there another app I can use that will do this (being mindful that I don't have access to another mac or the OS on the HDD to run it, so it'll have to be "live", and preferably free) Or should I just cut my losses and just put a fresh install on it... Yes I do have a time machine backup, but there's two reasons I want to see if this works - one is that although time machine is quite up to date (within a week I'm guessing, can't remember), it's obviously won't have the new content created during the day(s) before I was able to plug in my external hdd, and secondly since I don't have access to another mac to create a lion install usb drive, I'll have to use the internet recovery, and knowing my internet connection, 4gb download would take probably overnight and nearly a whole day to finish (assuming it doesn't drop out).
