My Macbook, 2007 vintage with osx 10.6.8 and an 80GB original HD is going to get a new brain....a 240 GB HD. I have the USB cable to connect the new HD to the laptop before swap of the drives. Is there an easy way to transfer the appropriate info from the old HD to the new SSD before the hardware swap?I have a backup plan to use my external backup drive to do this but that would seem rather cumbersome.

I got a friend who has a screwdriver which fits my MBA but im not a technic-kind of guy, so i don't know if i should try to tighten the buttomplate to get rid of the cracking?

Also I feel like storing media on the SSD is kinda wasteful of the SSD's speed. So I've done this temporary solution. I figured other people would be interested. I tried 2 items, as I wanted to add storage via usb without having it stick out and stuff.measure.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince I bought my Macbook Pro 13" 2.53 I replaced my HDD to 500GB 7200, but since then I can hear clicks from time to time and my macbook lags at the same time if I am watching a movie or anything. I found a solution been explained by some PPL but its like no one trust the solution yet, now I tried it on my Snow Leopard, and I can say my problem is solved.
1- Find the attachment and unzip it somewhere on your HDD (I placed mine in Applications Folder)
2- Open your Terminal (You will find it at Applications>Utilities
3- locate your folder at the terminal by CD command
4- Once your at the folder where you placed the file write this command: hdapm disk0 max
It has to come back with successully message to you.
This thread is geared towards MB/MBP owners, (specifically those with the late 2008) models. Its very easy to add stain-art to the cosmetics of any laptop. Drops of soup love to introduce themselves to the trackpad and rain drops may bounce off your jacket onto the screen on a wet day. View 2 Replies View RelatedAs in thread, I noticed in CoconutBattery and in iStatNano widget that my battery is losing capacity, yesterday I had 96% now I see 94%, I've got my MacBook since May and it has 59 cycles yet.
I think that it shouldn't lose capacity now, ok, later but now is to fast, do you think so? Is there any solution to increase this capacity? I've got MB Unibody 2GHz, Late 2008, but I bought it in May 2009 "as new"..
Now for the rub:
I've looked a fair bit and can't seem to find any way remotely easy to use the Apple DVD Player app. with my SD & optibayed MBP. VLC works but it isn't nearly as elegant or easy to use. I've scabbed up two loadings of Snow Leopard trying to replace frameworks/DVD files to get this to work. Interesting that the MBA can use DVD Player with the modified SD & all other computers w. an attached optical can use DVD Player too.
Has anyone been able to hack this easily? The only thing I can find is Macbidouille did an Hex edit of the framework/dvd file but there's quite a bit lost in translation. This should be the same problem any ext. DVD player has.
Is there an easy and relatively inexpensive way to use the tv screen to watch movies from a macbook 10.6.8? The only outputs I have are 2 usb, an ethernet, and one that I can't identify that's right next to the ethernet.

As anyone else noticed a "creeking/cracking" noise when opening and closing their MBA? I have babied my MBA ever since I got it, no drops or dents, and then one day it started making a creeking and cracking in the lower right hand corner of the screen (next to the hinge). Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone come up with a solution to eliminate the noise?

I believe they remove the doors for access to the area, but I haven't seen shots of the back of the 13" MBP yet.
I commonly work with remote desktops (using Citrix) on Windows servers from my MacBook Pro. The apps I commonly use require the use of Function keys. I know I can go into System Preferences to change how they work (turning the Fn option on or off), but this is difficult to do with the frequency I need to. When I'm not remoted in, I prefer to keep my keys as the normal Mac functions. Is there a utility for my Menu Bar that will let me quickly toggle this option, without needing to go into System Preferences each time? I looked up FunctionFlip, but it does individual keys, and no longer has a Menu Bar icon.

I have a Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II that I have been using just as a printer, however I'm wondering about being able to use the Easy Photo Print Pro software from Canon software so that I would be able download photos to my computer? If so, what supporting program or software do I need to install first from Apple? Can I use this Canon software so that I can use the Pixma as a scanner than upload to my computer so that I can edit my photos? I'm new at Apples and Scanners, so I'm not sure that this is possible.

What if the bus speed isn't 1066MHz?Same questions apply for hard drives -- are all laptop hard drives built in the same dimensions, and will fit the MacBook Pro? Do all brands work with the machine? What's the best (Software)Firewall solution for OS X. At the moment I work with a mixed environment ( ipfw, Apple Application Firewall and Little Snitch ). It seems to be secure, but this is an absolute overhead. I noticed, that my internet performance slowed down. For the moment I'm not able to spend money on a hardware solution. I'm searching for a complete Firewall software that controls incoming as well as outgoing connections ( Apple seems not to be interested in distributing a complete and easy waterproof solution ). Unfortunately ipfw offers no application control. I'm not a security expert, thus I need an easy configurable firewall.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, I have a unibody MacBook with 10.5.8 OS X. I have disk warrior, and it is telling me to boot from the CD/DVD it is on. It says to hold C until the boot up screen shows up. I hold down C, but all I see is a white screen that flashes. I tried holding alt/option and selecting the CD with the arrow keys and pressing enter, but it just takes me to my Mac OS X HD. Is there another way to boot from a CD?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some trouble with my Powerbook G4. I am pretty sure my hard drive is failing but want to get some other opinions before I start replacing stuff. Over the last couple days the HDD starting make strange noises (clicking a lot, along with other undescribale noises). I am wanting to hold off buying a MBP until after Leopard is out.
I am wondering a few things:
1. Is my diagnosis of bad HDD right?
2. How easy is it to replace the HDD with a new one (seems pretty easy reading instructions from ifixit.com)
3. Will any 2.5" ATA drive work?
4. I installed OS X on a firewire drive before the internal drive died but now it will not boot. Am I right in assuming once the new drive is in I can pop the Install disk in and install OS X?
5. Am I forgetting anything? Any tips?
9to5 suggests that installing OS X on an MSI Wind is both legal and easy. Their links to instructions for this machine aren't too clear. If it is legal, seems like a great Xmas gift for the 3 year-old who only knows OS X, but whom we would prefer be on her own machine.

Due to various internet and chat room issues which I won't go into here, I've had to add myself as an administrator on his computer and activate parental controls on his user account. His new goal in life now is to figure out how to circumvent them.

According to System Profiler I have OpenGL version 1.5.10 installed on OS X. Is there a way to easily update this like with Direct X on Windows? I play some Diablo II which is a Mac game and it looks a bit more washed out than how it appears in Windows; wondering if an OpenGL update might help. It's up to 3.1 now.

A movie file, a matching subtitle, but no simple way to stick them together and transcode for playback on other device (likely PS3). This is frustration.
