I recently installed Boot Camp with Windows Vista. i partitioned the drive 50-50 and now i am running out of room on both partitions.
I am familiar with Ghost on the PC side but is there a software that will CLONE my Mac partition and Windows partition all in the same process? When i go to Disk Mangement in Vista, it recognizes four partitions. 1 for vista and the other 3 for Mac.
I recently bought a Macbook Pro with a 200gb hard drive. Right now I am running bootcamp dual-booting OSX 10.6.5 and Windows7 100gb partitions each. I just got done configuring everything and then my friend offered me a 500gb hard drive for $50 so of course I had to buy it.
I am wondering if it is possible for me to clone the hard drive I currently have to the new 500gb hard drive and then extend the partition sizes so I don't have to go through and reinstall everything on the Windows side again.
I just recently upgraded my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro's hard drive to a Western Digital 320GB 7200RPM drive. So far it's working great. After I installed the hard drive I ran a benchmark (xBench, newest version) and my score was around 128-133 on average.I went ahead and installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Everything's working great. Bit later I ran xBench again. My scores tanked (specifically in the hard drive department). Overall score is around 80 now. What the hell happened? Could the partition/Windows 7 install caused an issue? I've ran Disk Utility and the drive is reporting that it's okay. And in terms of actually using it (opening programs, etc) it seems just as snappy.

I have my Macintosh HD (which I access often) and then the Untitled BootCamp HD (which I never access when I'm using the Mac OS... there's not point).
Would it be possible to move the Untitled BootCamp HD icon so it's off my desktop? Can I just put it in some other folder or put it in my Macintosh HD folder?
Sorry I know there are ways like using mac drive to do tis but it wouldn't work on my windows. I want to be able to browse my Mac hard drive while using Boot Camp, I have Windows 7 installed on Boot Camp.

At the moment I am trying to decide between installing 1 2TB hard drive or 2 1TB hard drives. I would preferably do the latter since I would like each OS to be on its own drive. OSX will be my primary OS. If I go for the 2 drive option they will be 2 seperate drives, not in a RAID config. Getting OSX onto the machine is simple enough for me if not a little roundabout. My main concern is Windows 7. Will bootcamp allow me to install Windows to it's own dedicated drive without having to partition the OSX drive? In my case would I even need to use bootcamp? Would holding down the "alt" key as done with bootcamp detect a second bootable disk even if Windows was not installed through bootcamp?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was repartitioning my hard drive in Boot Camp prior to installing windows xp, but changed my mind after I had chosen to partition in fat32 and did not complete the process. Now my hard drive sees itself as partitioned and I cannot use Boot Camp to install Windows XP. When I try using Boot Camp again, I get the message :
"the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. Backup the Disk and use Disk Utility to fromat as Mac Os..... Restore your info to the disc and try using Boot Camp again...."
My question is: is it even possible to reformat the hard drive from fat32 to nfts? I am new to MAC switching from Windows and wanted to install an embroidery software.
After deleting windows 7, I went back into boot camp to merge partitions and after that operation completed, the 32gb of space that was used for the partition was gone. I tried using the disk utility to find second partition but can't, it only recognizes the partition that mac osx is on and says it is 120gb capacity when hard drive is 150 gb. I would like to format the entire hard drive and have it as one partition again

View 8 Replies View RelatedRunning a 2010 MBP Core i5 2.4GHz. I had Windows 7 originally installed. Gave me wireless problems and I gave up. Erased the partition. Installed Windows XP and everything was fine.
I got a new copy of W7 Professional x64. I installed it "over" the existing XP, though it erased the partition anyways (I don't care about that).The new 7 install has been giving me the same wireless problems. I downloaded and installed the Broadcom driver. Gave me a BSOD and restarted the computer. Now I have a BSOD on start up, too. On the OSX side of things, it no longer shows any Boot Camp hard drive. It doesn't recognize it at all. Though when I hold the option key on boot, it still shows the Windows install.
1. How do I fix the BSOD problem? (All caused by installing the driver)
2. Where the heck is the Boot Camp hard drive/partition?
I recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I'm going to be swapping the 250 GB drive in my 2008 MBP Penryn (17) for a Seagate Momentus 500/7200rpm drive. There are two ways to go. One is to put the new drive in an enclosure and use SuperDuper or CCC to clone the main HD and then swap them. The other is to use Time Machine. That means installing the new drive blank, boot from the OS disk and format. Then go to the most recent TM state and restore. My available external HD is the FW800 Western Digital Studio. It has space for a partition big enough for the cloning. The case coming with the Seagate is the Other World Express USB2. I have good pdfs on the install procedure. Need to remember to print them, first.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to replace my boot hard drive with a pair of RAID0ed SSDs. In order to familiarize myself with certain techniques I have build a software RAID0 from two 160 GB Maxtor SATA I hard disks. That went pretty much without problems. The two HDs are now sitting in position 1 and 2 in my Mac Pro.
The problem arises when I try to clone my boot drive onto the new RAID 0 drive. I was using disk utility and got an error message. Then I thought my fault was using disk utility from the HD which I wanted to clone and booted from the Leopard install disk. I then used disdk utility from that source to clone the HD boot drive to the RAID. Again I got the error.
What is going wrong? Do I have to approach this completely different?

View 7 Replies View RelatedGetting OCZ SSD to install on MacPro 08 in second optical bay. Must have User files on separate drive due to SSD will barely hold system. I figured I'd have to clone my primary boot drive to spare partition, boot from clone, setup it up with User in other location from SysPrefs > Users > control click current user > advanced options, restart then dump items form User in order to have the drive sized for the SSD. Once the intermmediate tranfer drive was set up, clone it to the SSD and use as boot.
I tested clone before actuall data transfers. Problem is after switching User file location from the booted clone, restarting, but re-booting looks like clean install. No preferences showed up, missing all but stock apps in dock, desktop image back to clean install, printer needing registration.Tried advanced options again to locate User on same original boot drive, restart, same thing. I did not remove User files yet from the cloned drive which I was booting. Just switched location.

I have a 13 inch Aluminum Late 2008 MacBook. Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53). Currently I have a 160 GB SATA disk as my hard drive a d 4 GB of memory. (Is it time to upgrade or what?) I recently bought a Western Digital 1 TB internal hard drive to replace my exisiting internal hard drive. I spent a lot of time last night trying to first- connect this new hard drive to my computer so that I can then clone the existing hard drive and then hoping that I would get that done so I could install the new hard drive. No such luck.
My current hard drive is partitioned as follows:

When I was partitioning the new drive I did so as follows:

Format: MS-DOS (FAT) --- This was the only option that I was given that I thought would work. I did not have the option of "Windows NT File System (NTFS) to choose from. Question # 1: is that going to be a problem? I only run 1 program on Windows and that is the only reason I have BOOTCAMP on there at all. However, I do HAVE to have that program. Like I said it didn't give me the option to choose Windows so I didn't know where to go with this. Any help with that would be awesome.
Size: 26.34 GB (I just used the same size that was current, or close to it.) I connected the Western Digital 1 TB through an external device, partitioned it as stated above, and then used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the drives. The first one went through fine. (It took 2 hours and I went to bed before it finished.) This morning I woke to see that it had gone through well. I then started the process with the BOOTCAMP drives. However, before I started it gave me errors stating that I wouldn't be able to run Windows off of the Cloned BOOTCAMP drive. Question #2: Is it because of the Format type I chose when partitioning?

I've been hearing good things about the Spinpoint Drives and the 750GB ones are coming down in price.Here is my current setup1 - 500MB Drive - Leopard2 - 320MB Drive - Vista 643 - 500MB Drive - FAT32 (Shared, Irrelevant)I plan on replacing drives 1 and 2 with 750GB Spinpoint drives.My question is, can I boot off of the Leopard dvd and put in Drive 1 and NewDrive1 and just clone it, and do the same for Drive2 and NewDrive2 and clone it? And then go into Leopard and resize the HFS partition, and go into Vista and resize the NTFS partition?

I need to have both machines running everything the same as both my studio's are in two different locations.
We have an old iMac G3 (very very old) it is teal and has a slot loading cd drive. It has a 233 mHz processor, 160 MB RAM and a 4 GB hard drive. We are planning on giving this computer away, but, before we erase the drive, I want to make an exact duplicate of it (perhaps as a disk image or on another physical drive.) The G3 has no firewire ports (only USB) but I can access it through the filesharing LAN. I tried using disk utility on another mac on the network to "create a new disk image from folder" and selecting the hard drive for the G3 on the network. It failed giving me a permissions error.
Any clue how to clone this drive? A disk image is a preferable method, but I am willing to spend money on an external drive if necessary.

I did the OSX 10.5.8 update on the old western digital drive as a safety precaution, so that if it screwed up I would still have a good copy on my new Seagate barracuda. The update looks to have gone well and I will be waiting for a couple of trial days before backing the drive up again. My question is, when I clone the drive again(to the new seagate) how will that work? Should I erase the existing disk image(10.5.7) on that drive or will it overwrite the existing image with the new 10.5.8 one? This is the first time I have used carbon copy and don't really know all the in's and out's of it.

I have an SSD residing in my standard hard drive bay (because of potential hibernate issues) and the 5400rpm Apple drive + optibay clone in the Superdrive bay. How do I sleep/spin down the 5400rpm drive ? Unmounting doesn't seem to help. Put disk to sleep option in preferences is selected, but it keeps spinning and spinning. What options do we have for sleeping/spinning down this drive within OSX ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm drop shipping my 27" imac refurb to OWC for them to install the sdd, ram, etc. Someone here said OWC will clone the hd to the ssd and then the end user went back and did a clean install. Wouldn't it be better if OWC just installed the SSD, left it clean, and I did the install from the disks myself? I mean I assume it's a time issue why they would clone, not fresh install. I have plenty of time to do it. Is it not that simple? Is there something more fangled to it, or is it just running the disks and doing what they say?
