i open the mac and it comes up to the loading apple, but i cant put the software install cd inside because i think a cd is already in. Itried opening it and holding down the trackpad, and i hear the cd drive whirring

There is a noise from the Disc Drive, when you put your ear close you can hear the Disc spinning, occasionally it starts to make a loader noise like its trying to spin to full speed maybe, but stops before it can. Green light can be seen from bottom, tried unplugging and waiting, tried pressing the cmd R-P keys down at start up. Also tried as suggested on the apple website to use a paper clip to manually eject the disc.

I put a CD in and it disappeared inside the machine itself, not stuck in the drive. I can still use the drive. Every once in a while it shifts and makes an intimidating noise as the drive gags on it. I can sometimes bang and shake till moves to a more docile place. Is it possible to get it out without taking the machine apart?

There is no way to remove that thing (I tried everything, including matches with a bit of superglue). The only solution I see to get the sound back to the internal speakers is to disable the lineout.

Can I do this without ruining the external drives? Here is my concern: I own an ACOMDATA 2TB drive, Model DHD2000UFAB-72. It is actually 2 hard drives inside. Is there something in the external case that or motherboard inside the external case that helps them run together as one? If I put each one inside a separate slot in my tower will it work?

I don't know if it depends by a latest update I did to Itunes but after an uncertain amount of time my MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz Santa Rosa start to flicker. I have posted a video in youtube [URL] so you can see what happend. For a small amount of time while flickering is started the mouse can move around then it stuck and lock me out of the system. I have to reset many time PVRAM and SMC then it will restart until it lock it down again. It worked flawlessly until yesterday after if I don't remember wrong one or more software update. I use Snow Leopard (official licence). I downloaded the Combo Update for Snow Leopard and ran it. I still have to test it again. Since I need to do some work in the next 48 hours I can't full test it. After the hard reset an image pop out and It won't let me start up the system again ever if I reset many times PVRAM and SMC Then I use bootcamp to "unlock" the MBP. I do run windows under BootCamp. It will run but I can't see anything since the video remain black (I hear the HDD until stop working) Then I push the power down button and I turn off the windows Then after a long time it will log into Snow Leopard! I'm getting crazy the last two days
View 24 Replies View RelatedOver heated my battery and it popped out of its casing. Restarted it with no battery and worked fine. Never used the battery because charge rail is no good. Used it this morning to file tax returns. After I finished their was a system update that required a restart and now the computer is stuck on the start up screen with spinning wheel of death.

I tried to install Parallels for Mac 4.0. In the process of installing Parallels and Windows XP I managed to get a cd stuck in the drive. There is NO icon on the mac desktop. I have uninstalled Parallels according to information if found on the web. It was supposed to be a complete uninstall but I still cannot get the cd out. I am very new to Mac and I am at a loss as to what to do. The stuck cd is NOT an os (such as xp), it was a program cd that I was trying to install in the virtual xp drive in Parallels. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. At this point I can't even do a install because of the stuck disk.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay so I have a white MacBook that I'm trying to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard. It's on the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.8. So I have a family pack DVD for Snow Leopard that's got 2 installs left on it. So I decided to go ahead and use one on my MacBook. I put the disc in the drive and I could hear it spinning around in there. But then nothing. My computer won't even read it. It doesn't show up on the desktop, it doesn't show up in disk utility, and pressing the eject button on my keyboard does nothing, like it doesn't even TRY to eject it. I've tried the reboot + holding down the trackpad, it did nothing. I tried typing drutil tray eject in terminal to force it to eject, it also did nothing. It's not like theres anything thats really stopping it from coming out, it literally just won't even attempt to eject the disc.
It seems like my computer isn't even recognizing theres anything in the drive, the fact that it doesn't even show up in disk utility is worrying me. I've used this drive with other discs before, but never had this problem.
My System Preference is stuck open on the wi fi section asking if I want to run diagnostics or cancel, I am unable to close this screen or to use any other function in the system preference, what I need to do to get rid of the screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLately, my Lion operating system had become a little buggy, so much so that it eventually wouldn't allow applications like iTunes or safari to open, they would just sit there frozen upon launch. I've had my computer for about 3 1/2 years now and it's accumulated quite a bit of junk over the years, so I wanted to go back and perform a clean install of snow leopard (I'm not sure that I want to go back to using Lion at the moment).I've backed up all my files on an external, and then wiped my hard disk. Now, when I use the white snow leopard install disc, the installation will nearly complete itself and then I get an error saying "Installation failed".I've gone back with disk utility to verify and repair the disk but disk utility told me that there was nothing wrong and that no repairs were needed.

Mid 2009 MBP here. Original disk was failing so I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus XT and Lion refused to install. Formatted the drive correctly and made sure it was GUID partition. Even went as far as removing a memory module because I had heard that having more than 2 Gigs could cause issues during installation. Also made sure that the drive had the latest firmware.
Flash forward and I returned the drive and got a Western Digital Scorpio Black and have the same problem: Stuck at 21 minutes.
Currently installing with a 10.7.3 USB drive. I've tried numerous times with a 10.7.0 disk as well as the original Snow Leopard restore discs that came with the machine. Is the mid 2009 just incompatible with these drives?

I tried fsck -f fsck -y multiple times, booting in safe mode, zaping the pram and all that stuff, nothing as worked. I don't really care about how to fix it but I care more about, Is there any possible way I can get files off of the macbook even though it wont boot. Like is there a way for another computer (windows or mac) to pick it up so I can transfer files? What accessories will I need?

I have a mac OS 10.4.1 that began slowing down incredibly. It stalls and freezes at every step requiring emergency shut downs. I saved copies of my documents on a different computer ( by connecting it as an external hard drive to another computer using a firewire and pressing T). I have run through a disc utility and found that the memory is unaffected- was told to archive and install my start up disc anew. when i put the install disc 1 in the drive it pops up a screen that says " do you want to restart your computer to reinstall the disc" Once i press restart it freezes and gives the following message: panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerBook6,5". a bunch of code type stuff then at end "panic: We are hanging here..." The disc does not eject and neither the restart nor the reinstall happen. I figured out that if I force shut it down and restart it holding the mouse button it will eject the disc. I have done this numerous times and the same thing happens over and over again. Any advice on how I could perform this reinstall?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy old iMac desktop with Tiger OS installed crashed. I couldn't reboot. I tried the Hardware checkout I got with my MacBook and everything passed. I tried to start-up from the Tiger install disk--but couldn't. So, I went to my old 9.2 OS install disk and was able to startup. Problem is that it didn't let me do anything. I couldn't see my hard drive or attempt any kind of repair. I also can now not eject the system disk. What do I do to first get the 9.2 OS install disk out of my computer and then how do I retrieve my system? I thought I would try rebooting from my MacBook OS X install disk, which I probably should have tried before the 9.2 OS.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy system preferences window is stuck on the left side of my screen. I can only view half of it and can't move it. I also can't select anything on the sys pref window. Please check out the image.
Somehow I opened up Mobile Me and got a separate pop up and I am unable to close or move that as well.
I have OS 10.5.8 and using a Microsoft Natural wireless 6000 mouse.
The solution was to delete the com.apple.dock.plist. I tried that and restarted, but nothing changed.
In case it will be helpful, I have included the chain of events that led to this problem:
- First, my mouse stopped letting me double-click to select a word or any text. I altered the settings and things just got worse.
-I reset it to default set up and restarted. That didn't change anything.
-I opened the system preferences window again and it was unresponsive. I cannot click on anything. When I click on my mouse icon, a menu appears with a "Remove" option.
-I repaired my disk permissions and restarted. No change.
-I opened the sys pref window and moved it. Then the cursor was stuck to it and as I moved the cursor around, the sys pref window moved with it. I couldn't click on anything anymore and had to do a hard restart. When it came back up, I clicked on restart and waited.
-When I opened the sys pref window again it was stuck on the left side of my screen and only half visible. Since then, I haven't been able to click on it to move it or select anything. I have no idea how I was able to open Mobile Me.
-My computer is pretty much unusable until I can solve this. My mouse is so messed up that I can barely use it.
I ran the 10.7.3 upgrade (via Software Update) to upgrade from 10.7.2 on both my iMac and my MBP. Worked fine on my iMac, but the install on my MBP stuck during "Moving items into place...".
After waiting for about an hour I rebooted the MBP and it stuck on the grey Apple screen with the the spinning clock hands (do they have an offiicial name?),
I rebooted in Safe Mode and everything looked fine, but with no Internet connection (my iMac had an Internet connection, so no router problems).
I rebooted again (normal boot i.e. not in Safe Mode) and downloaded the Combo Updater on to my MPB (Internet access now fine - also 'About this Mac' shows the OS level as 10.7.3). I am now running the Combo Updater on my MBP, but it has once again stuck during "Moving items into place...". It says the remaining install time is about a minute - it has been stuck here for about 15 minutes, with no movement on the Progress Bar.
At what point should I give up and reboot? What should I try next? Should I have applied the Combo Updater when booted in Safe Mode?
I'm a rather new Mac user (it's been about 6 months since I bought my new aluminum iMac). Lately, I've been experiencing difficulties in shutting down my system, or even restarting it. I should probably note that I'm using 10.5.2 Sometimes, when I try to perform a system shutdown/restart, the OS gets to a point where only my desktop is shown but nothing happens (occasionally the beach ball keeps rolling, but not always).
At that point, (as far as I know) there's nothing I can do to restart/shutdown the system, besides pressing the "power" button for several seconds until the power goes down. When similar things happened on my old XP machine, I would just use CTRL ALT DEL and force quit all applications - until shutdown succeeds. There was never a scenario where I needed to cut the power in order to get the system to shut down. On OS X when this situation occurs, the CMD ALT ESC combo doesn't seem to work.
When I backup Time Machine it's just stuck on Preparing. I've tried stopping it then starting again. I've also tried dismounting the drive then remounting then backing up
