MacBook :: Boot In Safe Mode - System Stuck At Blue Screen

Nov 30, 2010

I tried fsck -f fsck -y multiple times, booting in safe mode, zaping the pram and all that stuff, nothing as worked. I don't really care about how to fix it but I care more about, Is there any possible way I can get files off of the macbook even though it wont boot. Like is there a way for another computer (windows or mac) to pick it up so I can transfer files? What accessories will I need?

Power Mac :: G5 Stuck At Light Blue Screen - Will Not Even Boot In Safe Mode

Mar 22, 2012

I have a 2.0 GHz early 2005 Power Mac G5 (7,3) that won't get past the light blue screen at start-up. I've tried everything - reset the PRAM, Apple Hardware Check (on overnight loops, everything came back OK), fsck (all OK), repaired my HD and permissions on it, and then erased the drive using Target Disk Mode and another Mac, and attempted to reinstall OSX from the install disk that came with it (with OSX Tiger). I've tried switching out the RAM with no luck.

The only thing I haven't tried is a new video card (the installed one is an ATI Radeon 9600). Here's what it does: powers on with the usual chime, then moves on to the white Apple screen, the wheel spins, then it moves on to a darker blue screen, then it finally moves on to a lighter blue screen with an arrow, and it just stays there. It will boot into safe mode (pressing shift), but I can't even upgrade to Leopard in safe mode, much less figure out what's wrong.

OS X :: Freeze On Blue Screen / Can Only Start Up In Safe Mode

Sep 21, 2008

I woke up this morning and my iMac G5 (w/ Leopard) was frozen. I restarted it manually, but it would freeze on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM - any other ideas?

What can I do in Safe Mode that might fix my comp? I haven't recently installed any applications, and I have all "open at login" items turned off.

Won't boot from DiskWarrior boot disk either. Just hangs

Software :: Frozen On Blue Screen / Only Safe Mode Start Up

Dec 8, 2008

My iMac G5 froze. I restarted it manually, but it kept freezing on a blue screen without loading the OS. It can start up fine in safe mode, but that's it! I've tried repairing permissions and zapping the PRAM.
Finally I resorted to an Archive & Install. That didn't work so I did a clean install but that didn't help either. After having done everything under the sun to it to get it to work, it will still only start up in safe mode. I even tried starting up off each of my two external fire wire drives with no luck (it froze on the fire wire screen with both drives - a Maxtor and a Western Digital). I am thinking that something on the mother board has died so that normal booting is prevented but safe mode booting is allowed.

Software :: IMac G5 Stopped At Blue Screen (Safe Mode)

Sep 6, 2009

When I turned my iMac on this morning (iMac G5 PPC 10.5.8) it went through all of the "normal" steps (gong, grey screen, apple logo, progress wheel, blue screen) and stopped at the blue screen. Thinking it was just a fluke, I shut the machine down and restarted, only to have it stop at the blue screen again. After disconnecting everything going into the iMac except the keyboard and mouse, I attempted to boot into safe mode but it stopped at the blue screen again.

Next, I flashed the PRAM (big gong, single quieter gong) and afterward it came to the blue screen. I reattached my external drive and selected to boot from a 2-day old backup. Using the backup I was able to log into both my regular account and my "test" account (without login items). I still cannot login (except to my external drive backup).

Mac Mini :: Slow Bootup With Blue Screen - Able To Enter Password In Safe Mode

Nov 28, 2009

I've been using my Intel Mac-Mini without a hitch for three years now. Previously it had been plugged into a Samsung 32" LCD TV, but I've just swapped it over for a 1080p Panasonic 37".

Now when I turn on the mac it takes a long time to boot up and then eventually settles on a blue screen. The mouse pointer is visible but nothing else. I've tried using a dvi to vga adaptor and an HDMI to vga cable and the same thing happens.I tried a 15" Samsung monitor and the same thing happens.

If I boot in 'safe' mode it allows me to type in my password but when I try to log in it fades to blue and then returns to the log in page.

MacBook Pro :: Starts With Black Screen Only - Same When Boot In Safe Mode

Dec 6, 2014

My MacBook is making the startup sound but goes straight to a black/dark grey screen. In other words you can see the screen switching on but it's blank. It's in charge mode, has no other external peripherals attached and it's updated to most recent OSX Yosemite.

I only purchased it in May of this year (refurbished). I have tried booting in to safe mode but again the screen remains the same.

OS X :: Won't Boot In Safe Mood / Only Boots To A Blue Screen

Aug 24, 2010

I just go a new Macbook Pro 13' from my school (my school made it mandatory to get a mac this year) and I was installing some of my applications. Then I got the "You need to restart your computer" message. I restarted, and all i got was a blue screen with my pointer. Then after a while it says the same restart message. Also I have tried booting from the Snow Leopard Disk, but I get the same message before the actual SL installer comes up. I have been able to get the Macbook to boot in safe mode and I repaired permissions and the disk, however that does not seem to help. I have also reset the PRAM and that did nothing. I am running out of ideas... how can I fix this? I am using 10.6.4.

OS X :: Stuck On Blue Screen And Gray Gear Spinning On Boot Up?

Mar 30, 2009

Everything was fine until this morning when i came into work, started up my Macbook as usual from sleep mode. was able to use OS X for a little while, had to leave to go onsite so i locked my screen (i use sizzle keys and made Command + L to lock my screen to the log on prompt). as soon as the cube spins to the logon screen, BOOM, all i see is the solid light blue screen just sit there. i walk away and 5 minutes later, it's still on there, can't recover or go back to my desktop, so i force shut down (hit the power button, and attempt to reboot the OS X. then thats when it all gets bad. Everytime i boot into OS X it just sits there with the blue screen and flickers back and forth with the gray gear wheel spinning and so forth.

Ok, so next check, i go to boot into my Boot Camp partition into Vista. no problems, was able to boot in my boot camp partition without any problems (im typing this in boot camp at this moment.)

So far i've been able to boot into my Boot Camp and the OS X Restore Disc without any problems.

I booted into the OS X boot disc, and ran Disk Utility, ran the perrmissions check and the disk check and both fixed problems aparently on my OS X partition. went to boot back into OS X, blue screen.

So now i do the PRAM and NVRAM reset doing Command+Option+P+R and again booted into OS X. blue screen.

Booted into Safe Mode (Safe Boot) took awhile, but again. stuck at blue screen and if i press any keys or move the mouse, the grey gear spins for like 10 seconds and just goes back to the blue screen. and the process goes over and over again.

(later on this afternoon) I even ran FSCK to check the volume for problems. "it appears to be OK"

The good thing atleast in this situation is that i can access my OS X partition in Vista (via MacDrive) without any problems, so if having to reload my previous Time Machine backup (which stupid me forgot to back up my system over 60 days ago ) or having to just Archive my OS X and reinstall it, that will have to be my final choice. But i don't REALLY want to have to do this all over again if at all possiable.

MacBook :: It Won't Boot After Trying To Repair With Disk Utility, Cannot Boot In Safe Mode

Jun 11, 2012

I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD.

I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".

I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.

MacBook Pro :: What Can I Do In Safe Mode To Fix Boot

Jul 5, 2012

MY MBP is giving me the "NOT" sign on start-up. This comes after initially displaying the Apple logo. This MBP had a new logic board installed by Apple just two weeks ago -- and I know I can take it back but I'd like to fix this myself. I put in a different hard drive after getting the MBP back. It has worked fine for several days. Don't know if these points are relevant, but:

1. First thing I noticed today is that neither of the USB ports would read a flash drive. The port would, however, work mouse and keyboard.

2. The initial non-boot episode took place when I had external hard drives daisy-chained in via Firewire. But, again, this had worked previously, as recent as this morning. This may be significant:

3. The last tasks performed on the MBP were -- for the first time -- to edit video in FCE, make DVD in iDVD, burn IMG file.

4.I have connect this MBP as a target FW drive to another MBP and run "disk verify" and "disk repair" in Disk Utility. It says the drive and permissions are okay.

5. I have booted to a copy of Disk Warrior (latest version, version 4, I believe) and rebuilt directories and files along with verify/repair permissions (everything DW will do). And when re-starting, it still won't boot.

6. When I boot off Snow Leopard DVD and run Disk Utility¦"verify disk" says "the volume appears to be ok¦.when I "repair disk" it reports "Volume repair complete." and "Updating boot partitions for the volume as required."

7. I'm able to boot in SAFE MODE, but when I try to restart in normal mode, it won't boot (so nothing was automatically fixed)What can I do in safe mode to address my problem?

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp XP: Getting A C000021a System Error - Blue Screen?

Aug 13, 2009

Won't boot up past this screen, this is the first time this has happened. I am fairly certain it is related to an attempt to install SP3 (I had removed it in favor if SP2 to hopefully fix some wireless issues). I noticed when I shut it down last time that it was installing updates, which most certainly included SP3, and then I left the computer. Maybe the install failed? If so, how can I fix this? Any way around other than reverting to a backup? (I think the clone I have of it has SP3 on it)

OS X V10.7 Lion :: MacBook Pro Won't Boot Into Safe Mode

Apr 29, 2012

I am running OSX Lion latest version on my Macbook Pro 4,1 and can't get the thing to boot from any source. Always get's stuck at the grey screen with apple logo. Have tried all the following...

- Straight Boot (power on)
- Boot via Recovery HD (hold option on bootup then select)
- Boot via Safe Mode (Holding Shift on bootup)
- Boot via Safe Mode Verbose (Shift, Command, V)
- Boot via bootable Lion USB Key (Hold option, and choose the USB drive - not the same USB key works on my other macbook pro)

On every one (except verbose) it just get's stuck on the grey screen with spinning timer thingy. I have done PVRAM reset, SMC reset and have reseated the RAM and all to no avail. I'm pretty sure the problem was caused by removing battery at wrong time (device not responding after sleep mode started and I plugged in power - should have been more patient!)

I have a Time Machine backup but it's a bit older than I thought and very much want to get my newer photos off it before rebuilding - not that Time Machine would work in current state anyway. So what are my remaining options? Will I have to open it up and remove the HD as next step or is there anything else left to try? Can I remove the HD and connect it via a USB caddy to my existing Mac to recover info (hard drive spins and sounds ok to me)?

MacBook Pro :: Running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Will Only Boot In Safe Mode

Aug 25, 2014

I have a macbook pro 15-inch, Early 2011 running osx 10.9.4. I have a SSD hard drive that i installed myself a year ago and hasn't shown any defects. Its a 120 gb OCZ-AGILITY3.

My macbook will only boot in safe mode nowadays. I have done a complete erasion of my hard drive and installed osx mavericks twice already. After the installation the computer will safely go to the desktop. But if i then do a reboot it won't get further than after the first apple logo, sometime the turning wheel will pop up, before turning off and trying again. i have tried resetting PRAM, I have tried resetting SMC, i have tried avoiding SMC (with big fan rate), but all with no success.

I have done a complete hardware test (the longer one) and it showed "no troubles found".

My guess is that the problem is with the battery. My computer won't run anymore without the adapter, when i pull the adapter out it either stays on for a while before just turning off. Without having it plugged in it won't start. Is it possible that during normal start up there is some kind of communication with the battery that can cause this?

I ran a diagnostic shown in this thread (Will only boot in safe mode) and included it in this post.

MacBook :: Circle With Slash At Startup - Cannot Boot In Safe Mode

I was troubleshooting an issue my brother was having with his Macbook over downloading files, installed Firefox for him, ran Apple updates and while the updates were installing the computer froze. He restarted it, and on startup he got a circle with a slash through it. I've been googling and checking forums and I tried booting into safe mode (Shift at startup, I believe?), and putting in the OS X disc that came with it and booting from that (C at startup?) but I get nothing. It just goes from the Apple with the loading circle, to the picture of the slash circle. I'm not really sure on the specs of the computer or the OS version, as I'm rarely on it.

Software :: Macbook Pro Will Not Boot Safe Mode Kernel Panic?

Nov 10, 2010

my name is SPC Sanders. I am a forward observer currently deployed to Afghanistan. I've owned a Macbook Pro for a couple of years.

About three weeks ago, I made the stupid mistake of attempting to run iOSX so I could dual boot with Windows 7 (all stuff I acquired while I was home on midtour leave.) The install seemed to be ok, however, I noticed immediately I could not make any changes to settings as my administrator password was no longer working. (Administrator is my only account on this laptop.)

At fear of losing my operability, I simply did not power down for that whole time. However, I recently moved bases, and alas, the time came to power down.

Upon bootup, I get a constant spinning wheel. I left this on for a couple of hours just to be sure, then realized it was a lost cause. I tried booting in safe mode, and I got some kernel panic. It says a bunch of stuff about debugger calling the panic, bla bla bla, but the thing that caught my eze was Mac OS version not set yet.

After booting in safe mode, getting that error, and powering off, my laptop will boot into a grezish blueish lightblueish (alternating) type of screen, which sometimes has the spinning wheel, sometimes not. Again, nothing.

I understand I will probably need my OS disc to fix this, but I didn't bring it with me. Am I SOL?

I already tried:

- Replacing the HDD with a new SSD with Mavericks installed (if I put this SSD into another MacBook everything works fine)
- when trying to boot in Safe Mode it reaches about 25% in the progress bar and then shuts down
- same when I boot in Single User Mode
- when I boot in verbose mode I'm getting this output
