MacBook Pro :: L-Shaped MagSafe Charger Split And Stuck Inside The Charging Port?
Feb 5, 2012
Someone tripped over the wire of the MagSafe charger, and it came away from the macbook, but split the L-Shaped part in half, and left the magnetic end stuck inside the charging port, and the other part exposing the gold pins. Is there any way I can remove the magnetic part myself? Or should Apple be able to do it for me?
I always have to be looking out for the cable now, to make sure it's not trapped under my laptop when I set it down.Up until now I thought I was doing it all with a good cause — that the L-shaped connector is superior over the T-shaped.But it turns out that Apple are going back to the T-shaped one for their new Retina MacBook Pro. What am I to do?
Info: MacBookPro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), 2.4GHz Core i7, SSD, Hi-Res Glossy
My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place. There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? I checked the battery status in system profiler and it says NORMAL. The details are as follows:
well my charger recently got hit with the frayed connector problem. I called Apple and they sent me a replacement via overnight shipping (really awesome).
Anyways, both representatives I talked to when they said they would send it said I need to send the old one in the box they sent the new one in and use the shipping label they gave me.
but I peeled back the shipping label, and there's nothing there.
I went to check the repair status, and it says "Complete - no part return needed," but they took my credit card number when I called and told me to do so.
Anyone have any idea about this? Should I worry about returning the defective charger?
I am becoming increasingly concerned by the rising number of reports of people's magsafe connectors for their MBPs bursting into flames.
I am not sure if this is being built up to be more than it is - but there do seem to be a number of genuine cases.
I now feel unable to leave my new 13" MBP connected to the mains unattended - which is not really a desirable situation.
I have heard that the issue is down to the design of the connector point where the wire goes into the magsafe connector - and as such, the differently designed connectors which are used on macbook air and those attached to apple display units mean that these connectors have not experienced any issues.
Therefore I was thinking in order to minimise the risk - does anyone think it is a good idea to try and get hold of a MacBook Air charger and use that on my MBP 13" instead? Do Air chargers even work with MPBs?
a lot of times when i let the magsafe get magnetically attracted to the port, it aligns crookedly (the side-butt round part of it sticking up a little bit) and I gotta push my thumb down to align it in place, flush with the machine edge.
I can also do this and it will land straight but not if I'm being sloppy and careless with the magnetic attraction -- more so than the other 3 unibody MacBook Pro's I've had with the same macbook air charger).
Do you think the cable is defective, the port, or what can explain this happening?
This seems plausible but silly (and something that I think might be the case after trying to see it connect while holding it in the air) - the cable is so thick, it's at a weird angle and forcing the cable up.
Because when I lay the cable paralllel with the edges (running from the back of my desk), I don't think it does this but I will try it out and fidget with it.
Ok, so i have the newer magsafe charger (The one thats slim and silver), but its faulty at times, so i looked on amazon and bought the cheapest Macbook charger i could find, i found one of the older ones (the ones that look like a square and are white), so i bought it. The moment it got here, i plugged it in and connected it to my macbook. The light on the charger went really bright green, it was so bright it reflected over itself, i didn't really care, though. So then i unplugged it and moved to another room, but it stopped working. The newer type charger (the slim, silver one) still works fine, but is still faulty.
I've already reset the SMC a number of times, still no luck
magsafe 60w charger was not responding with macbook pro 13 i5, but after few hours it started working properly, my machine is under warrenty should i go for replacement of charger?
A few of you may not know, but the prongs on the power adapter are supposed to be used to wrap the cord around when you are putting it away.
I'm curious to know if any of you actually do this.
I'm afraid to do this because I fear that the cord will eventually get weak from being wrapped around and the part of the wire that connects to the actual power adapter might become loose.
I'd like to know if someone has done this very frequently and hasn't experienced any problems.
i should still have 1 month warranty left on my macbook pro.I tripped over the magsafe cord. It popped out. But now it is not charging. I think they should give me a free one, since it was designed to protect itself & the computer..
My Macbook Pro (Mid 2010 model) will not turn on unless I connect the Magsafe charger into it. If my macbook is off, and I connect the charger - it will turn itself on without me having to press the power button? I am also stuck on 23% battery and under the battery icon it says 'Battery Not Charging'? I'm finding this weird because the battery is only about a year old.
My friend has a late uMB and his magsafe port is very very lose. Coincidentally, his battery stopped charging around 10 days after. His computer always runs on AC power and it says the battery isnt charging but it gains around 4% every hour. He thinks its because the lose port, but I think something else is wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
Having weird problems with my MacBook Pro 13 (MacBookPro5,5). I bought this needing repair and replaced the LCD, the LCD Glass, the Camera/mic cable, and bought a used battery because the old one showed "Service Now". Just when I thought putting all this work in would get me going, I ran into two different problems that are driving me crazy. The battery will not charge with any magsafe attached (I have quite a few). The only way I can get it to finally charge is to remove the bottom cover, unplug the battery, and use a new, l-shape 85W Power supply to get it to charge again, It charges ONLY until I remove it. Once I remove the power suppy...even for a second, I will not light up again and it will go on battery power until it disappates (then I start all over ). I've tried every reset in the book, so it has nothing to do with the PMR or SMC (or however they are named). Also, before anyone asks...the old "Service Now" battery behaves exactly the same way .The isight camera STILL does not work, even with the new cable. Furthermore, I had another cover for the same unit with a camera in it and its own cable and tried to use the camera with that setup, and it still did not work. My guess is there is either an issue with logic board or the cable connector on the logic board.
The Apple Hardware test passes perfectly every time I run it (quick and extended). Disk is fine...checked it with drive genius and disk drill. I am open to suggestions if anyone has them. I'm guessing this is out of warantee, nor was I the original owner. Anyone have any ideas? Open to anything at this point.
My magsafe 2 is plugged in but the light's not on. My battery status shows it plugged in, but says "battery is not charging."
I've reset the SMC several times and have been able to get it to work again, sometimes after going through the process several times. Sometimes the yellow light stays on even after I unplug the magsafe.
I have been told by my local apple store that I might have a bad charging receptical, the port where the charger connects to the computer, so my question would be, does anybody know how much this might cost me.
So I have a Late 2009 Macbook Pro, it came with the original magsafe adapter. The adapter doesn't always work all the time, sometimes theres a really dim green light.
One of the prongs that go into the wall is slightly bent so it might be because of that.
My question is will Apple replace this charger for me? Do they give the new magsafe adapters as replacements or will they give me an old one?
When I run my finger anywhere over the aluminium chassis my finger feels like either the laptop is vibrating, or there is a tiny grain of sand under my finger tip.
I know these are both untrue as when my finger is stationary it doesnt do it, and also I can use any finger or even my wrist as i type this.
Then, when I unplug the magsafe, it ceases to do it!
Am I barking up the wrong tree, and also why does it do it only when my finger is moving?
Is this a new issue or has anyone else had their replacement charger causing a funny feeling under the fingers?
just moments ago i plugged in my mbp and literally 1 minute or so later i hear a static fuzz sound (hard to describe) but if i had to give a similar sound it was exactly like the sound your radio alarm clock makes sometimes when your cell phone is nearby receiving an incoming call or text w/e, your alarm clock sometimes makes that sudden static fuzz sound.
well my mbp made that sound, wasn't as distorted as an radio alarm clock would make, but it sounded more precise. the sound came out of the left speaker for a second or so (no music or movie or any program with sound effects were active at this moment) i believe right where the magsafe is hooked into. and i was like "what the heck was that?? and was it from my mbp??" so i looked at the magsafe and sure enough the orange charging light was out as if it was unplugged (but it was still plugged IN) so i unhooked it then rehooked it and now it charged like normal again, still hasn't done it again while i started this thread.
any thoughts?? additional info i have to add is, i was swapping out the extension pieces from the smaller cord adapter, to the full 8 foot or so cord one. but when i switched out the small single piece i tugged in the opposite direction, i pulled up against the metal circle joint, instead of sliding left to unhooked the metal circle thing (w/e u call it). i felt the piece and its in full contact, i didn't loosen it or anything. could this be the random cause?
lastly, that static noise i heard that ended up causing the magsafe to stop charging. could that static noise damage my speakers?
additional info i also had my cell phone like 8 inches away from the magsafe. could the cell phone have the same static frequency or w/e that can interfere with the magnet/charging cycle?? i didn't receive any calls or texts when it happened. so i dunno if cell phones have frequencies constantly that could possibly cause my issue without having the receive incoming calls or texts etc.
I purchased a replacement magsafe 85w adapter for my MacBook Pro and was wondering if the new cable requires you to have your laptop closed to initiate the charge process on your computer.I notice that if I attach it with my laptop powered on and my computer open it will not initiate a charge (light up on the cable or show the charge icon on screen). If I power down my laptop and close the lid, disconnect and reconnect the magsafe cable the light on the cable will light up and initiate the charge. I tried this also on sleep mode with the laptop closed and the light on the cable started up without disconnecting. I was able to boot up my computer and continue working and the charge continued but I had to initiate it first with the lid closed either in an off or sleep mode. Just wondering if this is the new norm as I just moved from the old "T" style magsafe to the new "L" style magsafe.
Recently I have had a problem where my Macbook Unibody (Late 2009 i think) has stopped charging properly. My laptop has recently been updated to 10.6.8.
Firstly the charger seems normal i have had a few problems with it, replaced one and bought a supsicious looking replacement although i think this isnt the problem. The charger icon shows that it switches bewtween very (and i mean ludicrously, estimates roughly 20hrs for a full charge) slow charging and not charging whatsoever.
All the time the charger for my 2011 Macbook Pro has worked perfectly fine, but suddenly today, this morning, it stoppet working.
I tried to unplug it, and plug it back in, but there's no LED light on the charger, and the battery information at the top-right corner of my computer says "Not charging".
When I look closely, I can see a very dim green light, but you can barely see it.
The computer itself registers that the charger is connected, by increasing the brightness a bit, but no charging. I already tried the SMC restore thing
I accidentally left it on while I was doing some chores. When I came back it was dead (no battery). So I plugged in the charger and it immediately turned bright green when its supposed to be orange first, right? MacBook says (Not Charging) but power source: power adapter, green light is on, on the Magsafe. It's running by the power source because the battery is at 0%. I've had the charger plugged in for less than/about an hour and the 0% still hasn't changed. (Not Charging) is still there too. I bought my Macbook last August 2009, so it's not even a year old.
My MacBook Pro (the newer silver models 2011) often stops charging, I have to unplug the charging pin and connect it again. It has turned it self off quite a few times on sudden power failure, mostly because it went under power while I assumed it was still charging. After that it also looses time and date settings.
