I put a CD in and it disappeared inside the machine itself, not stuck in the drive. I can still use the drive. Every once in a while it shifts and makes an intimidating noise as the drive gags on it. I can sometimes bang and shake till moves to a more docile place. Is it possible to get it out without taking the machine apart?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe tip of my headphones broke while connected to the macbook, my computer has this tip inside the audio plug and plays sounds on the useless lineout. There is no way to remove that thing (I tried everything, including matches with a bit of superglue). The only solution I see to get the sound back to the internal speakers is to disable the lineout.

There is a noise from the Disc Drive, when you put your ear close you can hear the Disc spinning, occasionally it starts to make a loader noise like its trying to spin to full speed maybe, but stops before it can. Green light can be seen from bottom, tried unplugging and waiting, tried pressing the cmd R-P keys down at start up. Also tried as suggested on the apple website to use a paper clip to manually eject the disc.

I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro that's having a strange problem. It crashed hard last night while I was typing something- just froze solid, couldn't force quit, then the mouse pointer stopped. Shut it down with the power button, started it again, got the "not permitted" symbol (circle with a line through it). Restarted with my Tiger emergency USB boot drive and the hard drive didn't show up in Disk Utility. Whoa! Restarted with a Cmd - Opt - P - R, no change.Â
I pulled the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure that I have. It mounted just fine on my iMac so I backed up all of my data, then plugged the drive in to the MacBook to see what would happen-and behold the MacBook booted just fine with the drive attached in the external enclosure! It worked perfectly! At this point, I had no drive installed in the MacBook, the MacBook's hard drive was attached via an external USB enclosure, and I booted the machine via the Lion USB rescue utility. I ran Disk Utility thinking that it would have all sorts of errors to report, but the partition showed no problems. I repaired permissions for good measures, then put the drive back in to the MacBook. Again, I got the "not permitted" symbol.Â
I tried booting from the USB rescue drive- when I went to Disk Utility the drive showed up but the system hanged when I selected it. I restarted with the Snow Leopard DVD inserted but it froze before loading the setup process (I assume when it was trying to mount a file system from the HD).Â
I run Windows 7 in a Boot Camp config on this machine as well, so just for fun I tried to start from the Windows partition. To my surprise, it booted just fine from Windows. On top of that, once in Windows I had no trouble accessing the Mac partition.Â
I decided at that point that maybe something had gone awry that I couldn't see and that I should repartition the drive. I put it back in the external enclosure, booted the MacBook from the Snow Leopard DVD, used Disk Utility to repartition the drive, put it BACK in the MacBook and tried to boot from the Snow Leopard disc again- and it crashed in the same place. I rebooted from the Lion rescue drive and tried to use Disk Utility to check the drive- DU crashed when I selected the hard drive.Â
As a last-ditch effort, I swapped out the RAM and tried again. No go. At this point, I'm really hoping it's a problem with the hard drive, but seeing as though it works great from an external enclosure, I don't know what to think. I don't have any other 2.5" SATA drives to test in the machine so I have to assume that other than a failed SATA controller, firmware, or other logic board problem, it must be the drive, right?Â

I have what may be an odd question. I had a Seagate SATA hard drive inside of a Lacie firewire400/800/eSATA external enclosure that recently got zapped in a power surge and stopped powering up. It has a bunch of film files on it, but no operating system. I put it in one of the extra drive bays inside my Mac Pro, and I could hear the drive spinning when I turned the Mac Pro on (usually it's really quiet, but it now had the unmistakable LOUD spinning of the Seagate), so I can tell that the drive itself is not dead. BUT, the Mac Pro decided to try to boot from this drive instead of its own drive. So it wouldn't start up at all, seeing as there's no OS on the seagate drive. I know there are no master/slave settings in Mac Pros, so I'm not really sure how to go about setting up an internal drive w/o an OS on it, in a Mac. I just want to be able to copy the uncompressed video files from the seagate drive to the Mac Pro's hard drive, then remove the seagate drive

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro (Intel) and have 2 empty hard drive slots. I have an external 2TB hard drive that I would like to take out of it's case and install into the tower. Can I do this without ruining the external drives? Here is my concern: I own an ACOMDATA 2TB drive, Model DHD2000UFAB-72. It is actually 2 hard drives inside. Is there something in the external case that or motherboard inside the external case that helps them run together as one? If I put each one inside a separate slot in my tower will it work?

I am reluctant to delete them without knowing what I'm doing. How they got this way.Â
I haven't noticed any particular problems, except possibly slow search times for opening/finding files...Â

My PowerMac thinks the optical drive is open. No matter what I do, I cannot get the disk inside to load and I cannot open the drive to get it out. I'v tried f12 several times and have eject in my menu bar.

I just received my new 1 TB time capsule, but I just can�t make i work. I am able to connect to it and see the configuration and stuff like that, but it�s like that there is no hard drive in it. If I try to connect an external HD through the TC then the external HD I shown just fine but still no internal.
On the attach picture you can see the overview there the HD was supposed too be shown.
After reinstall of OS X 10.7.4, I restored an older copy from Time Machine backup. I want to completely replace the current "Macintosh HD" folder with the folder that TM put inside it. I created a separate user account, that did not exist before to do it. Do I need to create a root account? Is there an easy way to copy /Macintosh HD/Macintosh HD/ to /Macintosh HD/?

I'm pretty sure it's the logic board. Boot it up and it whizzes away and stays with a screen of eternal blackness, no responsiveness from the keyboard or anything. I've also got a CD stuck in the drive I'm pretty keen on getting out, anyway of going about it?

So I wanted to watch a DVD on my Macbook. I inserted the dvd and nothing happens, I then realized for some reason I no longer have a dvd drive (I just played a dvd on my macbook a couple of months ago) Now I can't eject the dvd. I've tried pretty much everything (holding the mouse pad, using terminal). It's as if I don't even have a eject button. I also don't have apple care and had to bring my computer in about 3 months ago to get fixed and that was a nice enough bill that I have to pay off.

I tried to install Parallels for Mac 4.0. In the process of installing Parallels and Windows XP I managed to get a cd stuck in the drive. There is NO icon on the mac desktop. I have uninstalled Parallels according to information if found on the web. It was supposed to be a complete uninstall but I still cannot get the cd out. I am very new to Mac and I am at a loss as to what to do. The stuck cd is NOT an os (such as xp), it was a program cd that I was trying to install in the virtual xp drive in Parallels. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. At this point I can't even do a install because of the stuck disk.
