MacBook Pro :: Sysetm 17" Failed Twice Now - Will Applecare Give Credit Toward New System
Jun 29, 2009
Has anyone ever had luck and had enough failures that with Apple Care Apple will just give you some credit toward a new machine? Can't remember what failed last time but i kept getting a blue screen after the load screen.
So I have had my 27" i7 (July 2010) for about a month. On initial install the RAM showed 12gb (which is correct). I had the stock 4 GB and then added 2 4GB chips from OWC. They displayed correctly.
Now, suddenly am showing 6GB. Bank 0 DIMM 0 empty, Bank 1/DIMM 1 2gb, Bank 0 Dimm 1 Empty, Bank 1 Dimm 1 4gb.
Reseat all and try again? Seems an odd failure. Bank 0 give up the ghost? Just seems really odd both factory and add in ram suddenly failed...
I have an old AppleCare Protection Plan for a Macbook Pro/Powerbook (MA515LL/A) that I did not use within one year of purchasing my old computer. Because of this (and my inability to find my proof of purchase), it was never registered. If I got a new Macbook Pro, would I be able to use this old AppleCare Protection Plan on it?
I bought two macbooks back in 2007 (research funding). One went to a colleague, one to me. Beginning to regret which one I chose! It's been a great machine, but i've had nothing but issues with it:1) Bluetooth issues (dropped connections, bluetooth doesn't exist), wake from sleep problems, macbook wouldn't sleep when closed and turned into a furnace. Solution: Logicboard replaced under applecare, problem fixed. For about a month.Decided not to use the brand new bluetooth mouse/keyboard I bought for another 4-5 months due to bluetooth issues
So I have a macbook pro old model.Recent Problems:graphics card failedsystem crashed had to reinstall system crashed again and would be stuck on apple logo now after i reinstalled SL after the stuck on logo problem my mac was fine.3 weeks later which is now it started to lag, slow, unresponsive. So i tried repairing disk utility and FAILED then i tried reinstalling osx FAILEDthen i had to delete my whole harddrive :*( and reformated the harddrive.FAILED AGAIN.calling apple is a no because i already called alot before so now they want to charge. So did i reformat wrong? something?
I am possibly buying a second hand late 2008 Unibody Macbook and was wondering if its possible to buy AppleCare for it incase its goes kaput in the next year or two?
1) If i connect my MBP to 2010 Samsung LED Full HD tv with mini dvi to hdmi convertor will i get 1080p picture. I mean full hd? For example when i play movies will they be Full HD?2)Can i connect it to my 35" phillips regular tv. I mean i bought it back in 1999 and it was really good back in the day. Picture is still very nice but i can't find model. Anyways can i connect my MBP to it? If so how?I want to connect my MBP to TV because i download movies and shows and all but 15" screen is not enough for them. For example i downloaded Spartacus: Blood and Sand 720p, i want to watch it that quality. Thank you very much for your answers.
i am about to have my first mac, a macbook pro. I live in Turkey and Apple prices are really of the roof here. So i ordered it from Amazon to save 1500$ and had it shipped to my friend's house in USA. He will bring it with him when coming here to Turkey. I ordered on 16th of June, delivered on 23th of June and i will be getting it tomorrow. Problem is i heard that it should be calibrated within a week after buying. I suppose this wouldn't be a problem right? I mean it should be a week after booting it i think?second question is about using while calibrating. I know i can use my laptop when it is fully charged and resting on that state for 2 hours but can i use it while it's charging.
I really wan't to know if there are anyone out there who can swear that their new MBA (13") doesn't creak AT ALL? I mean some ppl says that their MBA dosen't say anything at all! Is that really true? Or is it just because you (owners of non-creaking MBA) don't notice or is it because you don't think it is a problem? I would also like to hear if any of you have made the creaking go away (for good) by tighten the buttomplate?
I've just installed coolbook and fiddled around withe the settings etc, and restarted.Do I need to open coolbook every time I restart the MBA?Do I need to have the application running all the time, or do I just leave itclosed? (i guess if the answer the question 1 is no, then the answer to this is no as well!)Finally, is there a way of keeping the icon in the menu bar without having the actualy application open (assuming you don't need it open all the time)? I like seeing what temp it's currently at
my MacBook wonT restart I tried a system update but it failed, then said to restart my computer..now it won't restar. Just get the beginnings of a restart then to grey apple with spinning...nothing!!
I can't format my WD Elements external hard drive. I used to use it a lot on Windows and now I'm using a MacBook Pro late 2013 with retina display. I tried using the disk utility to simply erase it and it didn't work. Now whenever i try to plug in it, it says disk not read able. I tried the disk partitioning too and it didn't work.Â
Here's the screenshot of the window
And here's the result from using the diskutil list command
my friend internal drive failed today and i got a new Seagate 500 sata to replace itÂ
1- boot from my usb stick OSX 10.9 installer, select Disk Utlity and create 1x partition Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and got an error: File system formatter failed
2- boot from CMD + R and had exactly the same problem
3- tried another used but good internal HD and same problem
4- used my other macbook Retina and start the setup connecting the new seagate w/ Apricorn SATA-USB and reboot after setup. working fine after boot
5- installed that new seagate w/ 10.9 installed and working from my MB retina in the defective MB 13 and NEW ERROR:
"SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software".i replaced over 100x internal HD on Macbook computer in the last 10 years and NEVER see that problem.. Â
So today I decided to send one of my friends a very special christmas present - episodes of SNL. I decided to first send her the Just Commercials episode, because I know its one of her favorite parts of the sketch show. The show is $1.99, and I filled out the "Gift" form. However, when I clicked "Done", the iTunes page said that it had billed my CREDIT CARD. I have $24.95 in store credit, from various gift cards for iTunes. Why did this happen, and how can I fix this? I really really really can NOT have this bill be on my credit card.
I have a 640GB WD Black hard drive in my computer, and that I had accidentally formatted during my creation of a XP boot camp drive (I have another hard drive in the MacPro with this present). At the time I lost a majority of my media and had to rerip it all (learned my backup lesson there). So when it was reformatted it was changed from OSX extended journaled to MS-DOS Fat. I then used the drive to store the media on again as I reripped and pulled some from Time Machine. I kept running into problems where some files would not copy over.
So I reformatted a different drive and copied all the media to it, which fixes the other issues, and now I'm trying to reformat the MS-DOS 640 GB drive back to osx extended journaled. When I use disk utility I select the drive, and change the volume format from MS-DOS (FAT) to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click Erase and then it stops and says "Disk Erase failed. With the error: File system formatting failed"
I have an iMac OS X 10.5 or 6? that was not getting past the apple logo and spinning gear, so I started from install disks, selected Disk Utility, and got the following messages. The lines in Caps were red
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume Checking Extents Overflow file INVALID LEAF RECORD COUNT (It should be 1454 instead of 1444) Checking Catalog file Missing thread record (id = 20796) INVALID SIBLING LINK VOLUME CHECK FAILED ERROR: FILESYSTEM VERIFY OR REPAIR FAILED
I don't know where to go from here! Please help, I'm not Mac savy, so any suggestions need to be specific.
I'm trying to format a new external hard drive and it is not working. It is a Seagate 1TB Expansion drive. The box only says PC and Windows, but the guy said 'it should work on a mac too, as long as you format it on a mac', and other people on the internets say it should be fine also e.g. here.
So, when I go into Disk Utilities > Erase tab > change Volume Format to Mac OSX Extended > click erase, it gets about 2% in and then an error window pops up which says "Disk Erase failed. Disk Erase failed with the error: File system formatter failed."
All of my music is on an external hard drive connected via USB. It is now showing that instead of having 80+gb of data there is zero and now a file that says USBC and some other characters. I tried running disk utility and it said "filesystem verify or repair failed". Music folders and files disappeared from external hard drive now showing USBc file.
I keep getting a Partition error. File system formatter failed. I'm trying to wipe clean my MacBook Pro mavericks hardrive. What do I do? How do I fix this?
if y'all are kind enough to respond to this, can you keep it in baby language. I have very, very poor knowledge of the world of technology, and jargon will only confuse me! Step by step would really I have a PC I need to reinstall windows xp on, so i downloaded a torrent copy of xp from the net ( i know it's illegal, but i had a licensed copy, and my horrible ex decided to take it when he left, so i don't feel so bad ) onto my mac. I expanded the .rar file, and was left with three icons. one says image.img and has a little pic of the harddrive on it, and has about 650 MB of info. the other two are small (4kb and 24 MB), and just show a blank page icon, and say image.ccd and image.subNow, I assume I need to get those files onto a c.d, which when inserted intomy P.C will automatically begin the install process on my P.C.
Hello everyone! Hope I can get some great advice re: Apple Care and my MBP. Here are the basics.
Bought 2010 MBP brand new in June from Apple's site and also have Apple Care extended warranty. Since the beginning it's been plagued with kernel panics, gray screen of death, and lots of buggy behavior and app crashes. Have made two Genius Bar visits.
First they said it was a RAM problem and replaced that. MBP still didn't work right. Next they said it was a logic board problem and replaced that. MBP still doesn't work right! I've called customer support, they said to do OSX re-install and gave me a case ID #. Did that, MBP still has all the problems listed above.
I have my third Genius Bar appointment this week. At this point I think most people would conclude I've got a lemon MBP. So, my question is, what are some tips or recommendations on what I need to say/do to get Apple to replace with a new MBP? I'm tired of going back for repairs to this already frankenstein machine and believe that if they could have fixed it by now, it would be working fine. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I'm having a weird problem on a two-week old 13" MBP. When I plug in headphones whatever sound was playing, if any, will stop for 10-15 seconds and during this time the volume keys on the keyboard are unresponsive (along with any keyboard keys that operate hardware things...backlight for keyboard, display brightness, although the dashboard and expose keys work). Same goes if I unplug the headphones. If I'm in iTunes, I get a beachball isolated to iTunes during this. When iTUnes recovers from the beachball it "realizes" that it should have actually been playing for the last ten seconds and catches up. I fresh install snow leopard a few days ago. Why would plugging/unplugging headphones (they are the ones that came with my iPhone 3GS) give a beachball in iTunes?
I recently received an iMac as a "gift"... turns out it has some problems. I am unable to reinstall the default OS (Mountain Lion) because I have yet to be able to partition the HDD correctly. The error I keep getting is:Â Partition failed with the error: Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed. At this point, the default Macintosh HD isn't showing, so it must of been erased/deleted.Â
I recently found my old 12" powerbook g4 and I was considering a project to install a new Intel logicboard.motherboard in it to bring it up to todays standards for cheaper then buying a new 15" MBP to replace my dieing 2.2 ghz Santa Rosa model. If I remember correctly my PB only has a bad logicboard and hdd which I will hopefully replace with an sdd if possable.
apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?
i have some programs from my previously migrated macbook data and new programs that yield the 'cannot support power pcs apps' error.does that mean i cannot use these programs ever? is there a fix, ie installing new stuffit expander to run an .exe file?i really cannot believe apple would reduce so much functionality with the new operating system.
I'm buying iMac, I should get it about 4/10/10, I got it with apple care. My question is :- in three years time, can I buy it again and still be covered?
