View 3 RepliesHello everyone! Hope I can get some great advice re: Apple Care and my MBP. Here are the basics.
Bought 2010 MBP brand new in June from Apple's site and also have Apple Care extended warranty. Since the beginning it's been plagued with kernel panics, gray screen of death, and lots of buggy behavior and app crashes. Have made two Genius Bar visits.
First they said it was a RAM problem and replaced that. MBP still didn't work right. Next they said it was a logic board problem and replaced that. MBP still doesn't work right! I've called customer support, they said to do OSX re-install and gave me a case ID #. Did that, MBP still has all the problems listed above.
I have my third Genius Bar appointment this week. At this point I think most people would conclude I've got a lemon MBP. So, my question is, what are some tips or recommendations on what I need to say/do to get Apple to replace with a new MBP? I'm tired of going back for repairs to this already frankenstein machine and believe that if they could have fixed it by now, it would be working fine. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much store credit Apple will give me to recycle my 2010 Macbook?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend purchased a used Macbook and needed to reinstall Leopard on it (to remove the previous owner's junk), so he borrowed my install DVDs. Alas, the first DVD got stuck in the combo drive, so he had to send it in (under Future Shop's Product Replacement Plan, not under AppleCare, but FS sent it to Apple for repair). When he got it back, many weeks later, the DVD didn't work and could not be booted from. Will Apple give me a replacement? Does it matter which one of us calls? I'm thinking they might want the serial number to find the incident information, and since it's his Mac that was sent in, that he should call.
will they let me purchase a replacement OEM DVD (with iLife and everything that came with my Macbook)? Anyone know how much?
I'm having a weird problem on a two-week old 13" MBP. When I plug in headphones whatever sound was playing, if any, will stop for 10-15 seconds and during this time the volume keys on the keyboard are unresponsive (along with any keyboard keys that operate hardware things...backlight for keyboard, display brightness, although the dashboard and expose keys work). Same goes if I unplug the headphones. If I'm in iTunes, I get a beachball isolated to iTunes during this. When iTUnes recovers from the beachball it "realizes" that it should have actually been playing for the last ten seconds and catches up. I fresh install snow leopard a few days ago. Why would plugging/unplugging headphones (they are the ones that came with my iPhone 3GS) give a beachball in iTunes?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently found my old 12" powerbook g4 and I was considering a project to install a new Intel logicboard.motherboard in it to bring it up to todays standards for cheaper then buying a new 15" MBP to replace my dieing 2.2 ghz Santa Rosa model. If I remember correctly my PB only has a bad logicboard and hdd which I will hopefully replace with an sdd if possable.

For some reason, when I try to delete files from my flash drive, the file disappears but I don't get any space back on the flash drive. This is ruining my 32 GB flash drive.

I setup a 40gb partition for window's vista. Since vista is such a hog, I only had about 15gb left. Well, I used all but 2 gb on space for games and MsOffice. So I need to give more space to the partition. My specs are as follows: 160gb hard drive. 2GHz intel core 2 duo. 2gb 1067 MHz DDR3. My startup disk is Macintosh HD. give me a detailed set of instructions or the website you may have gotten it from.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMy business uses a payment processor, and we have two iMacs hooked up to a router. Since both computers use the same gateway (same external IP address that the internet sees), the payment processor can only process payments from one iMac at a time. Both iMacs cannot run an order at the same time. My question is this: Is there a way to configure the router to give each iMac a separate IP address that the internet sees, so that they can both process orders with the payment processor at the same time? If this is a bit confusing, I will try to clarify more.

I guess I'll run Vista 32-bit and plan to install three to five games, maybe Unreal Tournament III, Bioshock.. Bioshock 2 when it's released.
So it's basically a Windows Boot Camp for gaming and I plan to uninstall games after I've finished with them.
I'm currently using Early 2008 Mac Pro and the ATI HD2600XT which came with it. When I use the ATI utility or GPU temperature monitor apps like GPU-Z on bootcamp (Windows XP SP3), the temperature is about 87C on idle, and goes to like 93C when running benchmark softwares. (I ran the Final Fantasy XI benchmark software). I know this is hot.
Do the GPU temperature monitor apps give accurate temperatures? Or are the temperatures displayed wrong? Because I noticed that the temperature for the CPUs are displayed higher on Boocamp than on Mac OSX.(Used HWMonitor on Bootcamp and Hardware Monitor on Mac OSX). And I have a question for the people who use or have used the Early 2008 Mac Pros and the ATI HD2600XT with it. How are your temperatures?
1st time use of the forum, so forgive me if I posted incorrectly.
I'm running MacBook 10.6.3.
I'm trying to change the permissions and password to a user that uses the notebook. When I try to change the permission to "enable admin" it gives me the pink swirl. Only way I can escape is by rebooting.
2ndly, the option to "change password' is not there.
I want to update Aperture, but when I go to the App Store it tells me "All apps are up to date". Â I'm running an iMac, OS 10.6.8, current Aperture version 3.1.3 (latest version stated on App Store as 3.2.3).Â
I've tried downloading the update manually, but the updater doesn't work and tells me my version of the app must be updated through the App Store. (This is especially annoying because I transferred my Aperture Library to a MacBook which has a newer version of Aperture installed and it reformatted my library to a newer version. Now I've copied the library back to the MacBook but Aperture won't open the library because it's a requires the newer version of Aperture!)

I'm wanting to connect my DV Camera and an External Firewire HDD to my mini. I really only need two firewire ports: one for the camera and one to daisychain any further Firewire HDD. This is all in aid of being able to digitize HD Tape footage with the mini using FCP so I can do all the editing etc of the Mac Pro. I've found a few online such as:The Belkin Firewire 6 Port Hub, Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and Firewire 6 Port Hub and the 1Lynx 800 Advanced Firewire Hub (99MO018202).The stackable Belkins look great

Crucial lists PC4000 (500mhz) as well as PC3200 (400mhz) for my Power Mac. It has 1gb of PC3200 in it right now. I always thought that you wanted your RAM to be AT LEAST as fast as your FSB. Well...my FSB is 1ghz per processor. SO, would it be a good idea to run PC4000 RAM as opposed to PC3200? From what I gather if I mix them, it will just run the RAM at 400mhz. So would it be substantially faster with say, 1gb of PC4000 as ooposed to 1gb of PC3200 ?

I happened to be switching out displays at the back of my MP today. Could hear the fan at the lower back portion of the machine (as normal). but this time could also hear a very slight electrical hum just by the power unit -- is this normal (the hum) does yours have this hum?
I never heard it before. guess my head was never that close to it when the MP was on the floor. but since i moved it to the top of the desk my head is closer to it when I switch out the DVI ports

View 3 Replies View Related'm new to itunes and was reading the online help manual, which says that when I click delete on a song, I should have two options. One is to remove the song from my library and the other is delete the song from my computer permanently. I would like to delte the song from my computer, but the only option is "are you sure you want to remove the song from your itunes library"
I'm using a pc and have left my songs in their original location and have not imported them into itunes folder.
I have recently started having a problem in that I don't have administrative write ability on certain folder structures. This problem is predominately in folder structures which are associated with a Sync app that I use called Super Flexible File Synchroniser. I am not able to save new files or edited files into this folder structure from any applications on my Mac i.e. Mail, Parallels, Office, iWork. I have had to save it somewhere else on the hard drive, then drag it into the folder I want it in, then Finder asks me for my password to "Authenticate" this change.
Is there a way to give myself ownership of an entire folder structure?
I have a 500GB external Seagate HD that I have in two partitions, one for Time Machine and one for random media stuff. I was cleaning it out today and realized that when I delete things, it doesn't give me the space back on the hard drive. I've experienced this same problem with a USB drive that I use to transfer files from one computer to another, and it doesn't work unless I use disk utility to "Erase" the drive, then add what I need. I can't afford to erase the drive (not enough room to put it all on the MBP) and am starting to need my space back from the deleted files, how can I do this without ruining the files already on my partition?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince some time my search functions in Mail and Calendar aren't working properly. I can find my mails in the spotlight function from lion itself, but inside the mail program I get no results.
I tried several things:
1. Delete all my accounts on (is IMAP) and redownloaded them from the server.
2. Removed envelope files in Library folder mail
3. Add harddisk to privacy map on spotlight preferences and removed it (saw reindexing from harddisk)
4. Checked terminal with following command: 'sudo mdutil -s /Volumes/*', results:
/Volumes/Backups: Indexing disabled.
/Volumes/Server Data: Indexing enabled.
/: Indexing enabled.
(Backups is external network drive for backups).
(Server Data is external USB drive for data from clients)
(Server Systems is local drive, not shown in terminal ?!?)
Possible causes to problem: Reinstalled server software (and got it working properly this time), Renamed harddisk, installed back-up software named carbon copy cloner, setup VPN.

So I have had my 27" i7 (July 2010) for about a month. On initial install the RAM showed 12gb (which is correct). I had the stock 4 GB and then added 2 4GB chips from OWC. They displayed correctly.
Now, suddenly am showing 6GB. Bank 0 DIMM 0 empty, Bank 1/DIMM 1 2gb, Bank 0 Dimm 1 Empty, Bank 1 Dimm 1 4gb.
Reseat all and try again? Seems an odd failure. Bank 0 give up the ghost? Just seems really odd both factory and add in ram suddenly failed...
