MacBook Pro :: Can Use Old Applecare For New System

Jan 2, 2011

I have an old AppleCare Protection Plan for a Macbook Pro/Powerbook (MA515LL/A) that I did not use within one year of purchasing my old computer. Because of this (and my inability to find my proof of purchase), it was never registered. If I got a new Macbook Pro, would I be able to use this old AppleCare Protection Plan on it?

MacBook :: Replacement My System Under Applecare?

Dec 31, 2009

I bought two macbooks back in 2007 (research funding). One went to a colleague, one to me. Beginning to regret which one I chose! It's been a great machine, but i've had nothing but issues with it:1) Bluetooth issues (dropped connections, bluetooth doesn't exist), wake from sleep problems, macbook wouldn't sleep when closed and turned into a furnace. Solution: Logicboard replaced under applecare, problem fixed. For about a month.Decided not to use the brand new bluetooth mouse/keyboard I bought for another 4-5 months due to bluetooth issues

MacBook Pro :: Already Has Applecare?

Sep 30, 2009

apple replaced my SR mbp with a new unibody model after a series of breaks (which was awesome). Anyway, they told us to buy applecare, and since we were getting a brand new laptop we kind of had to say yes, so we bought it. Then when I got home and actually tried to apply it, it said it already had applecare. So I looked up the serial and it's covered until sep 2012, 3 years. So did I just get free applecare or did it just automatically apply because they were on the same receipt?

PowerPC :: Powerbook And Applecare ?

Jul 27, 2008

About a month ago my Powerbook g4 quit recognizing the power adapter. I had an after market adapter that was kind of beat up, but the proper voltage was still reaching the pin. I ended up sending my notebook to apple to fix under the protection plan. All they did was replace my battery and send it back. That was fine and dandy as i was able to use my computer until the battery died. I decided maybe it was my adapter so i ordered a new after market adapter. Still a no go. Sent my computer back to Apple. This time they replaced the logic board. It still doesn't work. Could it be that my adapter (the brand new one) is bad? Or is there still something wrong with my laptop? Every time I call apple they want me to go to an Apple Store, but unfortunately the closest one is like an hour away. Should I send this thing back for a third time?

Applications :: AppleCare Not Available - Take Screenshot?

Feb 16, 2009

I don't know how to take a screenshot, or I would. I just tried to register my AppleCare (which I bought from the Apple Store the same day I bought my MacBook) and when I click "submit" I get a message telling me the product I'm trying to use is unavailable in my location (which I know for a fact isn't the case - I live in NC, not on Mars). Has anyone else ever seen this happen? I printed the screen to a PDF so when I go to the Apple Store tomorrow they don't think I'm nuts. I know there's no problem with what I bought, and I know I'll get it taken care of in the morning, but it's a bit annoying and I was curious to see if others had had this happen. Also - hope I posted this in the right thread, or at least something close to correct.

MacBook Air :: Finding Alternative For MBA Applecare?

Oct 28, 2010

this will be my first mac - and i need some advice on applecare

my friend has kindly bought a MBA from hong kong on my behalf and i'll get it later this week (can't wait!). what i need to decide is if i should purchase some sort of 'insurance cover' for this MBA.

applecare is the obvious choice. however, 199 for the 2 additional years seem quite pricey. although i have links with my university, i believe i won't be able to get the educational price (47) given the MBA was purchased from the HK online store.

do you think the 199 applecare will be important or are there 3rd party insurance covers out there i can consider?

PowerPC :: Finding Applecare For Old Ibook?

Aug 20, 2006

I know the drill, I'm new here, but I have read that the majority of people here think apple care is a good investment, and I agree. But here is the spin.

I have about 2 weeks to decide whether I want apple care on my ibook G4 14" 1.42. It'll run me just under $300 (CDN). Thing is, with all the new improvements out there, is it even worth it for me to buy it? Like, if my laptop broke, I was thinking of just wanna splurging on a new macbook (not that it wouldn't hurt the wallat of course.

Another major point, the laptop from what I've noticed on ebay is only actually worth like $900. So I'm paying 1/3 of the value for apple care (since all the new upgrades have depreciated my laptop).

MacBook Air :: Why Applecare If They Don't Cover Battery

Apr 5, 2009

I have had multiple Apple laptops in the past and never gotten (nor seen the need for) AppleCare. Both Pismo, CS1400 and MBP first gen. My experience is that any weak point will show up during the first year and I have sent in at least one to Apple and they have fixed it under original warranty during first year, no problem.
Since battery seems to be the weak link I was planning on getting AppleCare for my new MBA. However if that is not the covered by AppleCare then I am looking for some pointers/reason why I should even consider AppleCare for my MBA.

I bought a MBP a year ago with AppleCare. I'm under the impression that I was automatically enrolled into AppleCare (since that is what the box says... auto-enroll). I changed my original e-mail address somewhere along the way, and with my current address, it says that I have no AppleCare assigned to my MBP? Could someone shed some light or help me out? I have called AppleCare before a long time ago when I first bought my Mac, and I remember the woman saying that my product was under plan for a long time, but I want to be able to get all my accounts together.

MacBook :: Applecare Running Out On Unreliable 2.1

Jan 28, 2010

I bought my Macbook Mid-2007, so it's the one with the Intel GMA945. Since purchase this Macbook has been nothing but trouble, in both hardware and software departments (at one point clicking the bluetooth icon would cause a kernel panic...). Luckily I bought Applecare. The full list of problems that were serviced by my Apple Service Center are as below.

- Cracking all along the oustide of the keyboard, but that's common.
- On my second hard drive, the first died within a few months of purchase.
- Second Superdrive, the first motor died and wouldn't eject discs, nor would it burn dual layer dvd's.
- Motherboard died after a year of use, only time the motherboard was replaced just because of a motherboard problem.
- Motherboard replaced again after the sound card crapped out.
- Motherboard replaced AGAIN after ethernet jack failed.
- Going on my third fan now, hopefully the fan I ordered will arrive tomorrow, the thing sounds like it's tearing apart my poor Macbook. I listen to metal music, and even on max volume the fan is clearly audible. Skype conversations for the other person using the Mac inbuilt microphone are basically unbearable.

With this plethora of problems, would this warrant a replacement by Apple before my Applecare runs out this August? The only problem is I live in China, so I only get 'licensed Apple Service Centers', not an official one. I do travel back to the States often, BUT I'm not sure how well documented these problems were by the Chinese centers.

OS X :: Applecare - Register It In Order To Activate It ?

Feb 1, 2010

When you purchase Applecare, do you have to register it in order to activate it? I bought it for my old PowerMac but never registered or even used it. So a few years later my mac took a dump and the Applecare time has expired. Or has it? Since I paid for it but didn't register it, did it start when I bought it?

I don't want to sound like someone that's trying to get over on Apple, but in the entire time I owned the PowerMac & the Applecare, I never got anything from them in the mail showing that it was active, even though I bought and paid for it when I bought the computer.
