Hardware :: When Mouse Is Attached To Keyboard It Is Nor Recognised On Startup

Aug 7, 2010

I have a mini, about 4 years of age, since the update to 10.6.4 when the mouse is attached to the keyboard it is nor recognised on startup unless I unplug it and plug it in again, when it springs to life. It is not an apple mouse, just a cheapo boa usb mouse. The keyboard (aluminium, same age as mini) is plugged into a powered usb hub. I have played around a bit and even when the keyboard is plugged directly into the mini the mouse is not seen at first. However, when the mouse is plugged directly into the mini there are no problems.
I have swapped the mouse with a variety of other mice including one from an ancient imac, it makes no difference. Is this a symptom of possible keyboard failure to come, or something else?

When running through a projector to give a presentation the color red has disappeared.  The first time it happened I calibrated with the Color Munki and all was well, for a while.  Now the Color Munki can't calibrate it anymore. I've tried two different projectors (both work with another laptop)tried two different cables and two different connectors. Also tried different calibrations.Today we ran disk utilities and that worked great, for an hour or two.

MacBook Pro :: External Monitor Attached And Display Closed

Nov 30, 2009

I typed Mac Help about "to operate the portable computer with an external monitor attached and the display closed. When I close the display of my Mac Book or MacBookPro, the external monitor such as my 50" Plasma monitor or video projector would go black. I read the Help and it said and required the USB Mouse and Keyboard to close the Macbook display and put computer sleep. My question is will the Apple blue tooth or wireless keyboard and mice will work with out using the USB? Has any one try that? I am not sure if I should buy wired or wireless to operate this.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Wake From Sleep If Attached To External Monitor

Mar 25, 2012

This started recently and is quite annoying.  Like the title says, if I put my computer to sleep via apple menu/sleep while it is attached to my external monitor the computer will not "wake up".  When I try to wake up the computer the sleep indicator stops pulsing and I can hear the hard drive start spinning.  As a result I must force shut down the computer by holding the power button.  The computer is fully charged so it is not a low battery issue.  The external monitor is an 20" Apple Cinema Display, it is attached via Apple's DVI connector.

Unplugging the monitor dongle and replugging it in do not work.  Pressing any assortment of keys does not bring the display back up.

I've tried resetting PRAM, disk permissions, and verifying the disk.

MacBook Pro :: Excellent Battery Life On New 13" (Screenshot Attached)

Jul 22, 2009

I clicked the battery icon at the top of the screen and what I seen is below. I'm extremely impressed with this new machine. Sold my old 15" Late 2008 Unibody few weeks ago on eBay as I wanted to downsize for portability.

Update: Obviously this was an estimated time and it was given when I used the computer on the battery for the first time upon receiving it. I assumed people wouldn't actually think I was getting 10 hours whilst using applications on it. You would probably get that amount of time by doing nothing on it. I just thought I would share it as it's the first time I've had it on any MacBook Pro and I've owned every generation of them.

MacBook :: 2.4 Keyboard/Trackpad, - External Keyboard/Mouse Not Working

So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.

He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

Hardware :: Continuing Backup From TC Attached HDD?

Mar 29, 2009

I have an HDD attached to my TC for use with Time Machine (the internal is being used as storage) and figured I'd connect it directly to my MB since I'm in the process of moving and really needed to back up while my TC was packed away. I was expecting TM to start a new backup on the hard drive since it's not possible to continue a backup when you switch the drive to a TC or AEBS... but I was pleasantly surprised when it continued backing up to my sparse bundle file while directly attached!

If only it were possible to continue a backup on a hard drive when you switch it to a base station.

OS X :: File Sharing On An Attached Servervolume (NAS)

Apr 25, 2010

I have a Mac Mini working as a local serverHTPC and a MBP that I do my daily computing on. I also have a D-Link NAS drive that is plugged into my wireless router. Currently, the Mac Mini has nothing really on it, all the media is stored on the NAS drive. The Mini just mounts the NAS volume and serves up the media that way.

However, I recently followed the steps here [URL] to set up remote access to the Mini. That works fantastically. However, I CANNOT figure out how to access the NAS drive through the Mini. The NAS drive does not have WAN access, so I cant get it directly when I am away from home. Rather, what I expected to do was to mount the Mini (which had the NAS already mounted to it) and then I would be able to access all of the Mini's files as well as the NAS's files through it.

Alas, that does not seem to be the case. Although when I remotely mount the Mini I can access its files, as well as any LOCALLY attached drives (think usb HDDs physically attached to the Mini), but I cannot get to the NAS (even though its already been mounted). Whenever I try to select the NAS drive on the "file sharing" options on the mini, it never lets me select it, its all greyed out.
