I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. Also I remember there is like a back-up shortcut (or something like that don't know what is it exactly named) consisting of three keyboard button.

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

If I adjust the volume on the keyboard, the volume slider in itunes doe snot move. If I set the volume on itunes with a mouse, then come home and use the volume controls on my keyboard, I have to also manually adjust the slider in itunes. Anyway to link the two?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently ran an update for my Macbook Pro. After the update, the volume keyboard shortcut does not work. I have the setting for the function keys to work like normal function keys so I have to press the fn key to change the volume. This does not work and changing the setting does not work. I cannot add a shortcut either. Whenever I push the shortcut, I get a grayed out screen with a symbol showing that I cannot change the volume. I can still make changes by clicking on the volume symbol at the top of my screen but I really need the shortcut back.

View 3 Replies View Relatedsometime this week the volume control on my pro keyboard stopped working. you can hear the "pip" noise when you hit the louder / softer buttons on the keyboard but the level doesn't change. i am still on good terms with my mute control, however.i have to resort to using the sound control in system preferences instead to increase or decrease the volume (sigh!)
i am running 10.2.8 and at about the same time as this problem occurred, I'd upgraded quicktime and think maybe it's the culprit, but before i waste a few hours playing sherlock holmes.

OS X Lion, output: Cinema Display. Volume doesn't change by control keys on keyboard. But it does with software volume control (on iTunes, for example). When I press control buttons on keyboard, volume icon on display appears and changes - but not the volume. It lets me know that buttons are working, and Mac recognizes that.

I spilled a bit of drink on my Aluminum Apple Keyboard, and now the F12 (volume +) key doesn't work. The F10 (mute) and F11 (volume -) still work, so, is there a way to do THIS:
Re-map the keys so that,
F10 is now Volume Decrease
and
F11 is now Volume Increase
How can I make my replacement usb keyboard adjust volume? In keyboard preferences I have selected 'use all f1,f2 etc keys as standard function keys' and in keyboard shortcuts I deselected (disabled?)Â f10 - application windows, f11 desktop, f12 dashboard shortcuts, and allowed full keyboard access all controls. tonight I started having trouble with my intel iMac (running OSX 10.4.11). I'm having issues with two things (bolded for those skimming):
Out of seemingly nowhere, my iSight light turned on and now wont turn off. The only program I had open at the time was Firefox. When I try to open up PhotoBooth it says this:
There's nothing listed under USB High-Speed Bus in the system profiler either.
I've tried logging out of my user account, restarting, shutting down, unplugging and holding the back button for 5 seconds ...none of that worked. I tried resetting my Mac's PRAM and NVRAM. That didn't work either, and that's where a second problem appeared: when I try to shut my computer off, it freezes. I have to shut it off by holding the back button.
Is repairing the permissions and/or disk worth a shot? Or should I just take it straight into the Apple store? I hope it's not a hardware issue because I just recently had a new hard-drive installed after it broke down on December 15.
Yesterday my keyboard would light up, but today when I hit the F5/F6 keys to light up the keys, It won't light them, and it will show the icon with a no sign.
How to fix this?

Whenever I turn it on, the green light is on for like a second and then it's off, but nothing happens after that (it's supposed to blink a couple times before it connects). View 3 Replies View RelatedI looked all over the system preferences pane, and although I can change the setting for the screen itself, I cannot over-ride the light sensor controlling when I can use the backlit keyboard.
There are some cases where I want the backlighting on, but when I press the button to turn it on it won't let me because the sensor is picking up too much ambient lighting.
When I adjust my volume controls on my keyboard, F10 thru F12, to listen to audio out loud, I get this picture (attached). However, if I am listening to headphones, the volume still works.
I tried shutting down and restarting, and I've been thru my preferences. The drop down volume control on the top right of the screen is set to as loud as it can go.
So a friend spilled some liquids on his new macbook pro 13 5,5.Unibody The keyboard no longer worked, the hd was fried, so he gave it to me and switched to PC's . I replaced the HD, and connected an external keyboard.
Luckily nothing else was effected and it powered up. What I find strange is that the back light still works although NONE of the keys do. The power button and the trackpad still work as well.
I have accepted that I have to purchase a costly top case, but could i not just replace the keys?
