View 7 RepliesI currently have a 2010 Mac Mini connected to my TV with 3 external drives with my movies/tv shows/itunes attached. I have an old PPC g5 iMac in the other room doing nothing. Can I use that iMac as a server with the external drives attached and have Plex read them all from my network on the Mini?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLooking to get a pair of M-Audio DX4 monitors for my PowerBook G4 but was wondering if I'll be able to hook them up to it. They say they come with an RCA to mini-jack cable, but does mini-jack mean it'll plug into my headphone port or some special port not available laptops.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi've plugged my lcd tv to my powerbook using the dvi port and a dvi-to-vga cable and have extended the desktop to the left of my mac's monitor so i can throw windows and stuff there when i'm working (web design). because i would ideally love to have even more room to have my stuff laid out, it would be great if i could connect another monitor and extend the desktop to the right this time... is that do-able? could i use the s-video port for that?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a 15in Titanium Powerbook which I've had for about 4 years and can't see any reason to change it. I'm running OSX 10.3.9, 867Mhz processor, 1MB L3 Cache and 1GB SDRAM. I'd like to get an external monitor, at least 20in, maybe a 23in. I have a few questions though.
1) A fellow mac user said my PB might struggle to power the larger monitor due to the older graphics card. Is this true?
2) If yes... are there any upgrades I can do to allow me to buy an external monitor?
3) If its fine, any recommendations on monitor? I can afford the 23in Apple Cinema, but I don't like spending money for no benefit. How are the other options compared to the Apple? IE Dell/Samsung etc.
4) Anything else I should check/know before purchasing?
5) Any recommended UK sites? If I go Apple I'll go to Regents Street, but what about other options.
graphics card for the G5 dual 2.0 to enable it to run twin 1680 x 1050 OR higher resolution monitors. The highy touted ATI X800 apparently doesn't run 1680x 1050.

I'm using OS 10.4.11. When I email PDFs, they are automatically converted to JPGs unless I create an "archive" of them, in which case lots of people can't open them, including Mac and PC users. As a sometime graphic artist, this is a real concern. On my old iMac using OS 9, I never had this problem.

But now it's causing sleep problems with my computer. When the Data Port is connected to USB, the computer won't sleep. I unplug it and it sleeps just fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HDD attached to my TC for use with Time Machine (the internal is being used as storage) and figured I'd connect it directly to my MB since I'm in the process of moving and really needed to back up while my TC was packed away. I was expecting TM to start a new backup on the hard drive since it's not possible to continue a backup when you switch the drive to a TC or AEBS... but I was pleasantly surprised when it continued backing up to my sparse bundle file while directly attached!
If only it were possible to continue a backup on a hard drive when you switch it to a base station.
I have two new G-Drives attached via FW800. One drive keeps unmounting by itself. All of a sudden, I get a screen that says "The drive has been removed, you should always make sure to eject the drive properly from the etc etc.." First time I have ever had this problem. I have tried the eSATA connection and FW connection with the same result. Regardless on how I connect the drive, linked or direct. It's brand new. Could it be bad?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying everything I can think of to get 2 PC's on our home network to print on my Canon MP610 which is connected via USB to my MacBook Pro and the two PC's recognise the printer and add it as a device but when I try to print, the message "access denied, unable to connect" is displayed. If it's of any relevance, I cannot get the PC's to access the Public folder on the MBP over the network either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Mini working as a local serverHTPC and a MBP that I do my daily computing on. I also have a D-Link NAS drive that is plugged into my wireless router. Currently, the Mac Mini has nothing really on it, all the media is stored on the NAS drive. The Mini just mounts the NAS volume and serves up the media that way.
However, I recently followed the steps here [URL] to set up remote access to the Mini. That works fantastically. However, I CANNOT figure out how to access the NAS drive through the Mini. The NAS drive does not have WAN access, so I cant get it directly when I am away from home. Rather, what I expected to do was to mount the Mini (which had the NAS already mounted to it) and then I would be able to access all of the Mini's files as well as the NAS's files through it.
Alas, that does not seem to be the case. Although when I remotely mount the Mini I can access its files, as well as any LOCALLY attached drives (think usb HDDs physically attached to the Mini), but I cannot get to the NAS (even though its already been mounted). Whenever I try to select the NAS drive on the "file sharing" options on the mini, it never lets me select it, its all greyed out.
My emails, at least as I see them before I send them, have a picture of me in the upper right hand corner. I want to get rid of it. I have looked everywhere in Mail, etc.
I have a Mac Mini, which has attached to it a 750G Maxtor hard drive via USB. I've partitioned that drive. One partition has random stuff on it. One partition is for Time Machine. I now have a new MBP, and want to back it up regularly using Time Machine. All my machines are networked so I can mount any drive on any machine. Is it possible to use that Time M partition as explained above, without having to disconnect it from the Mac Mini and connecting it into my MBP?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an AirPort Extreme with a 1TB WD hard drive attached to it. I put a ton of movies and music on it and I want to know if there is a way to stream the content on that hard drive to my PS3. I would assume the PS3 would have to connect to my AEB to see the hard drive. If this is the case, is the PS3 Wireless-N? The reason I ask is because my AEB is in N-mode only and I would prefer to keep it that way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an USB external HD attached to Time Capsule. Trying to find out how one can use diskutil to do a verifyVolume on this drive. I tried something like: diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/myDrive but it didn't work. The command is (naturally) ok with an USB external HD attached to the USB port on the Mac itself.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo lately I've had this issue when I restart my computer: iPhoto starts up and lags the initial start up of my laptop any time I power up. Not sure if this is a re-post, but i've searched everywhere and haven't found an answer on any post. I do run parallels on my laptop, and when iPhoto starts up on a restart it shows it being connected to my Windows HD. I tried renaming any "image" folder within the HD to a different name - no luck! I have no other external USB devices plugged in. I do not have it set to open at login on the dock, nor is it on my "Login Items".

Unfortunately I still use Windows computers, but they are the last to go everything else I have is Apple. My Drive is formatted in Fat32 and I read a post on here from March or May of this year that said I just had to open my computer and type the static IP address into the address bar, but I cannot get this to work.

I am on an IMac - system 10.4.11. Voice over started unprompted - driving me nuts - and I fixed. But in doing I discovered an errant file with a warning attached. File is MacOSiaX2.oa7.dmg, When I try to open it warning appeared says that the file may be damaged and opening it may damage system can/should I trash - and how best to clear up - concerned it might cause more oddness in the future.
