Aug 11, 2009I'm trying to remove "WDNotifier" from ever loading when I boot. Can someone direct me where to do this?

View 8 RepliesHow does one remove unwanted applications from the start(boot up) process? I removed Parallels however, Internet Explorer and Firefox still attempts to load and I get an error message on boot up. This is on a MacBookPro with 10.6.8 installed.

So I have followed a bunch of the 'MacPro with mac raid card users wanting to do bootcamp' threads. I have attempted all the hacking required but have not been successful. I heard that bootcamp 3.1 will fix this problem possibly... so in the mean time I would like to remove my SAS drives and raid card and just use the sata drives that I have to do Mac OS and Windows.
I have removed the card but when I plug the drives in and boot up the machine, the drives are not recognized. Is there some plug that I need to reconnect somewheres?
Noticed that Safari is running slow and sticking during the loading process. Also iTunes is freezing mid-song. Is there a bug or have I finally gotten a virus?

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)
I have a (check sig) and just tried to install the Windows 7 RC 64-Bit onto a Bootcamp Partition. I had been using the Beta way back, but had cleared that partition in advance for a clean install. With that I had no problems...ran the 7 beta fine alongside OSX. I followed the same procedure I had done for the beta install with RC, following the guide on the internet. Everything seemed to work out peachy, Windows 7 booted fine, I added all my settings again. Then I switched over to OSX to eject the disc, which was fine although the boot in was quite sluggish. I set the boot drive as "Macintosh HD" in System Prefs, and proceeded to try to boot into Windows 7 again....this time it was no go.
The screen came up with the white cursor on black, and then the "Starting Windows" showed, with the animation above it. At some point during the animation, it just froze. My fans were at normal speed and everything. I tried many times, same story. So I thought I would shut down, boot into OSX, and try to erase the partition. That didn't work either. When booting into OSX, the start-up chime sounds with the white screen, then the gray Apple logo shows up....and that's where it stays. I reset the PRAM, no luck. What could be the reason it hangs on BOTH boot processes? Because for a short time they did both work, and I could not have erased my OSX partition or anything because I did boot into it once after installing the Win7 RC. I also can see both partitions when I boot holding Option...
I was doing the most recent software update today. During the process, it told me to power down. I did and now when I turn on the MBA, I'm only getting a black screen. I have tried a force restart (control-command-power), PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), and the SMC Reset (Shift-Control-Option Power). None of these steps corrected the problem. How I can get my MBA to boot?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am new to Mac. I just bought a new Macbook Pro for my daughter for her birthday. Actually she is new to Mac. Anyway, I am setting up Boot camp with Windows for her as well as some other software. When the macbook first booted, it played this wicked cool movie with "welcome" in a bunch of languages, then went through the setup process. Is there a flag I can set somewhere that will force that to happen again when she first starts it up?

I am having a problem getting my G5 to boot. Half the time when I turn it on I get no chime. The other half, I get the chime but the boot process does not continue. If I leave the computer on the fans begin to progressively get faster and louder after about 5 minutes. I've tried starting with various USB and Firewire components unplugged and have even gone to just a keyboard and mouse. No change. Can I get the computer to boot from an OSX CD? How do I open the tray? etc.

I am having a problem with symbolic links getting corrupted. I have a new Mac Pro running 10.7.3.
I have defined symbolic links:
/Users/walker/G2S -> /Volumes/L2A/G2S [this is pointing to a different partition on the same JBOD RAID]
/home -> /Users
The second link was created after unmounting /home and removing it from the /etc/auto_master file. Both symbolic links worked for several days. But then for some reason, without a reboot, the links became corrupted:
> pwd
/Users/walker
> ls -al G2S
lrwxr-xr-x 1 walker staff 16 Mar 24 03:08 G2S -> X??G???GÒ?G???G
> cd G2S
G2S: No such file or directory.
Same nonsensical definition for /home link. I repeat, this did not happen after a reboot. It first happened on /home. I thought that might have been related to a new OS handling of the "/home" label. So I deleted the /home link and did a clean reboot. The G2S link was created after that reboot, not before.
After the above two problems happened, I created a new symbolic link:
/Users/walker/G2S2 -> /Volumes/L2A/G2S
I then did not use this new symbolic link in any of my processing scripts. A few weeks went by, then this link somehow got corrupted too:
lrwxr-xr-x 1 walker staff 16 Apr 2 17:22 G2S2 -> G???G1?Gu?G
How symbolic links are managed on a Mac (any process that controls their linking?), or For example, could it be due to bad RAM? I have 32 GB.

I did not have enough memory and I had already deleted some games in the past to do updates. Well I downloaded Windows XP Home about half a year ago and decided I really did not use it all that much. When I downloaded It i cut the memory in half (1/2 OS X and 1/2 Windows XP) So I went back to my Bootcamp installation papers to see how to properly uninstall Windows. So I did and everything seemed fine the only thing I thought was odd is that it only took like 3 seconds to uninstall so i knew it did not actually uninstall. I did not think much of it cause I could now download the update.
View 15 Replies View Relatedrecently my ibook keeps randomly locking up, it first started the other day when it got stuck on a blue screen at start-up eventually it came on, but kept locking up, no spinning beech ball just completely froze, i held down the power button to turn it off, i then had to wait at least ten minutes before trying to start up again, if i didn't it would get stuck on the blue screen, then something else weird happened, when i started up it came up with the mac set-up assistant similar to when you first upgrade, so i turned it off again and it went away, so i started up again this time i noticed that spotlight was indexing, despite it already doing that ages ago when i upgraded to leopard, so i thought this had something to do with it, because it kept freezing in the process, but today i turned it on, let it index and to my surprise it didn't lock up, so i went to play world of warcraft, and as soon as the login screen came up it locked up agai
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen in the Parallels instructions that you can create a new Virtual Machine from an existing Boot Camp partition - but is the reverse possible??I have a functioning Windows XP VM in Parallels and have unsuccessfully tried to create a Boot Camp partition (trust me I tried all the conventional ways) but failed. So the question is can I somehow convert my Windows XP VM into a bootable Boot Camp partition? I tried copying the files of my VM into the Boot Camp partition, but when booting I get an error that it is not a bootable volume.

Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.
I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount.However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mac was shutting down and it took sooo long (blue screen with the spinning loader). I never experienced this, cause normally the dock would vanish and my mac would shut down instantly. But this time it kept showing a blue shutdown screen, so I decided (after about 2 minutes) to hold the power button and force a shutdown. The next time I booted the mac it showed me the gray boot screen, with the spinning wheel and a gray loading bar, which I think is indicating a firmware update or something that has to do with my forced shutdown. But the bar gets to about 1/8 and then vanishes. The spinning wheel stays, but nothing else happens. It just hangs and keeps spinning forever.

I am done with PCs as my PC died on me again....for the last time. I am a total and complete Mac newb and need an older Mac system, as I cant afford the new ones. I see the Power G4 being sold on Ebay all the time but with no operating system. My question is: How hard is to install the operating system if I were to purchase an older G4 and....the software....what should I buy? Where to purchase it? If I purchase an operating system off Ebay....how do you know it is for real and not a pirated copy? Take it easy on me guys....I am a newb with my first post. I had a guy off Craig's List who going to sell me a system...but never to be heard from again. Now....I like the looks of the old G4 and hope to learn more about them....to the point of owning one. I have read that the Power G4 is a nice machine and runs well.
