is it possible to take a program made from a PC and make it run on a mac? without crossover (it never works)its not a complex program but it never works from me

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed a program on my 2008 Mac Pro (Mavericks) called CyberViewX, which is an application for a 35mm film scanner I recently purchased, a PrimeFilm XE. The program is actually installed in the TWAIN directory tree on the Mac. (Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources)Â
When I log on to a "regular" admin level account (that is, the account does have administrative privileges) the program will not run; it thinks for a bit, and then says "please run as administrator"Â
If I open a terminal window, drill down to the program executable (it's actually buried quite deeply in the application's directory tree, but no matter), and run the program with a sudo command (sudo ./CyberViewX) and enter my admin password when prompted, the program runs fine.Â
Is there an easier way to do this - that is, to have the program always run with "administrator" privileges, so I don't get the error message. If nothing else, the program is also invoked by other software that came with the scanner; these programs will not work, because they use CyberViewX to actually acquire images, and CyberViewX gives the same "Please run as administrator" error message .
If someone installs a spy-program locally on a computer, how would you go about finding it and/or rectifying the situation? A friend has reason to believe that someone installed software on their OS X computer to gather information. They may or may not have had the password, and she thinks they got on locally. How would she go about finding any such programs installed? She is reluctant to to a clean install (the only suggestion that I could think of).
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf a program can be installed without it asking for an admin password (similar to the way firefox can be installed: you just drag and drop into the applications folder and you're all set), then that program is usually safe, right?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Type to Learn (a learning to type program) under my daughter's account. This is what it said: "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges." I went to my account and successfully installed it. I went back to my daughter's and got the same message. I tried a google search and came up with things 6 years old...mostly dealing with printers.

My iCloud calendar invitations are sent out in German even though my icloud.com account settings say the account is managed in English. What can I do? where is the email generated? within mail? within ical? I'm running an English version of Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion. Mail is in English.  Could this be because the account was originally a mac.com then a mobileme and now an iCloud account. Some sort of legacy information on the account that there just isn't an option to change anymore?!

I made the code below to use together with another 2 codes. One that mounts a samba share and another that runs rsync with specific parameters. The script below runs after rsync complete its task.
The 3 codes me to test my HTML/CSS/PHP/Javascript code changes. This code works but I have to repeat it to each browser/app I want and a 10 lines script becomes 40 lines (Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari). Is there a more elegant way to do that? I've tried to use an array/list but didn't work.Â

I need to have 2 copies of Mozilla Firefox with abolutely separate settings on my iMac.Â
On my previous PC I had 2 portable copies of FIrefox from portableapps.com Can something like that be performed on iMac? Â
Why: sometimes I need to use a US proxy setiings in brouser (to purchase @ US stores that block foreign IPs). On the other hand I have my main everyday Firefox set up for my everyday needs. Switching settings is quite annoying. I just had a separate copy of FF on my PC for use with US proxe settings before i moved to iMac.

How do I make "RAR expander" my default program for .rar files?Or is there another program you would recommend?
Background:I used "RAR expander" for a long time until I came across a file it was not compatible with. I then downloaded and installed "The Unarchiver" and it worked on the file "RAR expander" would not open.
After that "The Unarchiver" became the default program for .rar files. The problem is that "The Unarchiver" does not work well with password protected files. So for months now I have just manually opened "RAR expander" whenever I try to open a password protected file.
I want to keep both programs so I will be able to open any file, but as I rarely use "The Unarchiver" I would like to have that be the one I have to dig through sub-folders to use. That is, unless there is some excellent program I have not tried.
Invitations for external (not users on the server) is not working. All mails are handled by ISP, including the iCal servers account. The "Allow invitations using email addresses" is checked, and setup with a working mail account at the ISP.  By looking in the logs for iCal Server I get this:[URL]This is leading me to think that the server must be trying to log in at the ISP with it's own credentials (given in the "Allow invitations..." setup) but trying to send with a users mailaddress as sender. This is of course not allowed by my ISP, since everyone could potentially send mails from each other, but how do I change iCal to send the invitations from iCals account?

Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I have a legal copy of iWork 09 installed via CD-ROM, it does not appear as "installed" in the app store.

I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.
I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.
I want to capture selections on my screen and add comments. Is there a program out there that will allow me to do that? I don't like the "grab it" program because it saves the captured file in a Tiff format instead of a Jpeg format.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.
I am trying to switch my email program from Thunderbird to the mac email program Mail.Thunderbird has been playing up a lot recently and am tired of the glitches.
I have all the correct server settings etc and succesfully imported my mailboxes. The problem is that when I send an email it isn't from the right email address?? Is this a Mail problem or smth to do with my settings? I'm with Virgin media and have a separate set of email address through my website for my business so my email address are through freeola that I am using through Thunderbird.I'm sorry if this all sounds very stupid but I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out where I have gone wrong!
Im not sure why, but after i reinstalled lion, the app store says imovie is installed, but imovie is not installed garage band installed fine, and for iphoto i had to do system update, and it installed, but for some reason app store wont let me install imovie, cause it says it is installed but it isntÂ

I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3, currently with the 4gb of RAM that it came with. I want to upgrade this. I am aware that there are two slots that I can use to upgrade. My question is this: the spec page for my model [URL] states that it has "4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB." Does this mean that I can have 8 total (meaning I can only add 4), or that I can add 8 gigs, making a total of 12? As far as I'm aware, the base 4 are located somewhere else inside the computer, leaving the two expansion slots empty.

ust installed my OCZ vertex 2E 240GB drive
Installation was pretty easy to be honest and I'm a novice with laptops.
did a clean install had to partition drive first then install OSX after doing all that I did a migration from time machine.
Something odd it booted up and my facetime app wouldnt work, got the error message that OSX was to old a version for it to work..
found it had 10.6.3 on it, thought it was odd as I did an install from the disc and my system came with 10.6.4.
so I did all the updates from software update up to 10.6.5 and now everything seems perfectly fine and lightening fast
I was wondering if any has installed windows 7 on their macbook air 2010 yet? I have the 13' base model with 2gb and am a little hesitant on installing it. Can anyone share their experiences please.
