I have a new MBP with a high resolution anti-glare display. It is beautiful, but at full resolution everything looks smaller. Is there any way to set preferences so that windows open with a full-size appearance without setting the display to a lower resolution?

I did some searching and the posts I found were a few years old so i figured I would ask again for a more rescent answer.I am currently looking to buy a new laptop to replace my junk of a laptop (Dell Mini 10v) that I bought a few years back just to take notes during classes. These days I am looking for something capable of more then just web, email, etc. I am looking to do some programming, video editting and a game once in a while. As nice as they are, I do not need the retina display, so I was considering the 15" priced at $1,799. My questions are as follows.
1: Is it worth it upgrading to the 8gb of ram (was probably going to anyway)?
2: Does the 1680x1050 Hi-Rez screen make much of a difference?
3: As I would most likely be paying either completely with cash or a combination of cash and my Visa (depending how my medical bills are this month), can I get these customizations either directly from the Apple store, or sent to the Apple store from the website so I can pay at the store instead of online. I am really not up for applying for their BarclayCard, although If that is my only option I might just go that route.

i am using a hackintosh for a week now. I am using it just to get used to Mac OS X because i am switching to a Macbook Pro in a couple months. I switched from PC to Mac officially now. I'm on week 3 of being a mac newbie and the proud owner of a new MacBook Pro 15" (I'm even excited about Snow Leopard arriving tomorrow .... don't remember that from my Windoze daysAlas, all is not rosy ... I've just noticed a small scratch on my screen, no idea how it got there (heads will roll if I find out!). Although it not going to effect me working on it a great deal, it is starting to anyone tried to polish out a scratch using a very fine grade steel wool ... or something similar. When the screen on my MBA is closed down the rubber edge on the bezel around the screen does fit tightly on the left side, but on the entire right side, there is as small gap between the rubber edge and the base of the MBA. At the rear right the distance between the bezel and the base of the MBA is one milimeter and since the rubber edge takes up less than half of that distance, I'd say the gap is at least half a milimeter. Does your screen fit tightly all the way around or is a small gap normal? I'd think the rubber edge not only avoid metal against metal, but it will also prevent dust or dirt from entering the screen / keyboard / touchpad area when transporting the MBA.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been planning to get a MBP over Christmas, and today I went to the local Reseller to get a USB-hub, and I played around with the 15" and 17" after since they were out, and I wanted to see if any other local stores had them. I've been planning on a 15" for a while, but when I looked at them right next to each other, it struck me that the resolution on the 15" is tiny compared to the 17". I realize that it's small because the screen is small, but it's so my smaller that the menubar took up so much physical space it became a problem for me. The 13" on the other hand, looked fine. The resolution is small, but the screen is small too so it fits.
Now I've been using a whitebook with 1280x800 for a while now, and the resolution is one of the primary reasons I'm not going to upgrade to a 13" MBP, but there is no way in hell I am getting the 15" with a fisher-price resolution! Is there any chance Apple could use a 1680x1050 panel instead of the 1440xwhatever? Does anyone know why the refurbs on the UK store are all 17"? There is not a single 13" or 15" there, and hasn't been for a while. Are there known problems on the 17" that I'm not aware of?

I had been getting horizontal small dashes across my whole screen.Â
Talk to an apple tech and he took me thru diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong.Â
So he had me reinstall the OS and that was about two weeks ago and everything has been fine UNTIL today it started again.. Â
I just found out that if I use the "mirroring" mode, and I set the resolution to 1680x1050 and 60hz(my monitor max resolution/hz), it's all kinda blurry... But if I put in sleep mode ma MPB and wake it up "switching on" my bluetooth keyboard, the monitor in my MBP doesn't even start and it just use the external monitor. In this case, there's no more blurriness but the settings are the same! Then, I can even turn on my MBP monitor (pressing some random key on its keyboard) and nothing change, still no blurriness...
How can this happen? By the way, there is another funny issue: if I use this "trick", the applications that should run in "fullscreen" (not really fullscreen, just the window that use all the screen size), like iTunes, don't do it anymore....
Has anyone seen the 1680x1050 high res screens yet? I'm wondering if they may be too high res, making everything on the screen too small to read.

I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch about a 40 days ago and I have just noticed two small black dots on the on the bottom of the screen near the left side of my dock. I have done some research and they seem to be "dead pixels" They're really small but for the price I payed i didnt expect any problems. What are some suggestions to get rid of them or if i should contact tech support? Here are two pictures of the dots: They kinda change colour when i move my head around.. Not sure if theyre dead pixels or not.

I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. One problem,and I will post a pic, there is a small nick on the top left corner of the casing of the screen. Its noticeable but otherwise the computer is great,no keyboard flex that I can see or any other cosmetic issues. Would it be worth it to go through the whole Amazon exchange for just this issue with no guarantee that the replacement would be any better?
View 24 Replies View RelatedWhen I have my brightness at a certain setting and then start playing a game, the brightness jumps to full. When I then press the button for less brightness, it jumps immediately to the setting it was originally.
This also happens whenever I do alt+tab to return to the desktop. So it appears it happens when I do something that requires to switch to full screen mode cause it also happens with other programs.
At normal use, surfing, office,... this problem does not occur. And also it doesn't happen under OS X
So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro 15" with a mini displayport, and I decided I would share my LCD monitor with my windows box. The desktop box is connected with DVI and I have connected my Macbook through an HDMI adaptor from Moshi. Everything works very well, and I'm pleased with the quality of the output, but I'm having trouble with a screen flicker in full screen games.
When I select full 1080p (1900x1080) in any full screen game, the screen "shudders." It does not occur on the OS X desktop, and I can only explain it as a shudder. Lines and text shift perceptively left and right, and the game is unplayable. I have experienced this problem in Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Half Life: Episode 2 so far.
Could the problem be with my monitor and the way it handles an HDMI signal? The Macbook is flawless otherwise, with no other issues of any kind. The "shudder" only occurs during full screen games set to 1900x1080. Lower resolutions are not effected and work fine...
I'm stumped.
Edit: I should add that I have no other 1080p capable devices to test the output with.
I recently had to erase and install Leopard. I then restored everything from my time-machine backup. The weird thing is, before, when watching streaming videos from the internet, the screen stayed at the same brightness, regardless of whether there was any mouse movement, or touching the keyboard, or anything. Now, if I don't do anything, the computer dims the screen, as if i wasn't watching a video.

My Mac does not give me the option of selecting the screen resolution that the Dell monitor says it has (1920x1080). It only allows for 1600x900 at max. This has the effect of the screen not stretching to the full size of the screen.

I'm trying to watch a video streamed on google chrome on my second display, which is a Samsung TV connected by HDMI to my macbook pro.Â
However, I can't use my laptop when doing this, if I press full screen on the video no a separate window on the TV then click back onto my macbook screen the video exits full screen.Â

So today I noticed a small black bar on the corner of my screen. I tried to get a screen shot of it, but i couldn't, like it was off the screen. However, my mouse dissapears under it when i move it there.It is a little hard to distinguish because it is the 2.4 ghz macbook aluminum, glossy screen so it has the black surrounding it, but it is definably there. This all along the right hand edge of the screen.
Although there is a chance it may have always been there, I am not so sure. I think there are lines along the top and left hand sides, but they are much smaller. again it is hard to tell. I am fairly sure that there is none on the bottom of screen. Is this normal, or what? I have applecare, and I didn't do anything to my macbook. Although it is getting me a little OCDish, and is slightly annoying, and I know these things on the screen tend to expand.
What is the best small printer to go with an air book and thunderbolt screen and be a great printer?
