Soo...I just picked up a mini to run plex and use as a media center. Hooking it up to my projector via VGA cable. When I set the display settings to the native resolution on the projector there is a small black line or bar down the left hand side of the screen. Not on the right but only on the left. why this would be happening?
View 6 RepliesSo today I noticed a small black bar on the corner of my screen. I tried to get a screen shot of it, but i couldn't, like it was off the screen. However, my mouse dissapears under it when i move it there.It is a little hard to distinguish because it is the 2.4 ghz macbook aluminum, glossy screen so it has the black surrounding it, but it is definably there. This all along the right hand edge of the screen.
Although there is a chance it may have always been there, I am not so sure. I think there are lines along the top and left hand sides, but they are much smaller. again it is hard to tell. I am fairly sure that there is none on the bottom of screen. Is this normal, or what? I have applecare, and I didn't do anything to my macbook. Although it is getting me a little OCDish, and is slightly annoying, and I know these things on the screen tend to expand.
I am getting a green line and a black open space on the side of my Mac Mini TV when I set it up. I have tried every different resolution and it is still there. The problem is that when I click Detect Displays, nothing happens to the screen.

I connected mij Mac mini to my tv and it works great. Until I change something to the screensetting or play game with other screensettings. The start flickering. A black screen apears every 10 seconds and the says it lost connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNewest Mac Mini, My screen will randomly go black for several seconds and return without my doing anything to get it back. It happens while workin in various programs, browsing, etc. The computer is set to require a password on return from sleep but when these events occur the display returns to whatever I was doing, no login required. Everything is up to date.Â

My faithful and trusted Intel Mac mini 1.83 C2D that I bought new in December 2007 suddenly died during a major 10.6.3 update install. It almost completed the update and the screen went black and the light went off instantly. The power button doesn't respond at all. I had major work projects going on Sunday night when I took a break, quit all applications and did the software update and it died. I took it to the Apple Store Monday morning thinking it was the power supply. I was informed that the logic board is dead and my HD has to be wiped and OS X reinstalled. The repair would cost well over $300 and have a 90 day warranty with the same logic board installed that could fail again. Ironically enough, I had been thinking about buying another new Mac mini and a new Mac mini Server for work. That's not going to happen now. I left the Apple store with my new $600 paper weight for my desk. What would you do? This was a sad day in my faith in Apple products. Apple Mac mini lemon? I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. My macbook is running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4, and I'm having difficulty getting rid of the vertical black columns on my computer screen when it is connected to my classroom projector. I've played with the resolutions, and the best resolution for the VGA display is 1024x768...Unfortunately this creates less than desirable black columns on my computer screen. Another teacher in my school has display settings of "1024x768 stretched," and her macbook does not have the issue mine does. However, I don't think she is running Mavericks 10.9.4. I cannot find this display option on my computer.

In a month or so I'm going to need to do a Keynote presentation with a projector. I have the new MacBook, so I need the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. It doesn't seem to be getting good reviews though (many saying it doesn't work for them). I will not be able to test it out with the project until the day of the presentation. Is there any other way to connect the MacBook to what I assume will be a basic projector?

I have to occasionally hook up my Macbook (not a Pro) to various digital projectors at different companies. I bought the $20 attachment thing. I brought it in and have not been able to get any projector to recognize it at all. This is on several different projectors. I try hooking it up both before and after turning the computer on and it doesn't work. I went to "Display" in System Preferences but there is nothing there about changing the display (to "dual" or "mirror" or anything), it just says "Color LCD" and some preferences about size, bits and stretching. There are no tabs. The worst part is that I teach at a lot of tech companies, so the people there should all know how to fix it, but...1.) can't read English that well, and my Chinese is OK but not *that* good, and 2.) they all use PCs. Macs are like aliens to them. So they can't fix it either. The manual is worse than useless.

I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch about a 40 days ago and I have just noticed two small black dots on the on the bottom of the screen near the left side of my dock. I have done some research and they seem to be "dead pixels" They're really small but for the price I payed i didnt expect any problems. What are some suggestions to get rid of them or if i should contact tech support? Here are two pictures of the dots: They kinda change colour when i move my head around.. Not sure if theyre dead pixels or not.

My question is that if I am sitting 6-8 ft. away from a 46" TV will the font be viewable or will it be to small (or fuzzy) to be a practical surfing set up. Recently, a vertical black line (maybe slightly dotted) appeared running down the screen of my iMac G5 (Power PC processor). On the left of the line the screen appears fuzzy while on the right it's OK.
Has anyone experienced this before? Hope to hear from someone who has.
basically i bought my macbook literally two days ago and it worked perfectly for the first day and it still does except for the fact that there is a mysterious black line on the screen that appeared from nowhere! i have tried restarting it multiple times and i have never touched the screen violently...when i take a screen capture it doesn't show!!! i could swear I've never even touched the screen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 2.8 24 inch, about Two years old running 10.5.7 , when I start the computer it shows the normal Gray screen for about 30 seconds, then the screen goes all Black , but with a small flashing white line ( _ ) in the top Left hand side corner.
It just stays all Black for ever , I then hold down the On / Off button and turn off the computer, I then hold down the keyboard '' option key '' and press the on button at the same time , then I get the option to start from the main HDD , I click the Icon and the computer then starts normally , and every thing runs ok.
Can some one please tell me what I have to do to get my iMac to start up normally again , Ive run Repair Disk permissions but the problem still occurs . Over the last few day's Ive been trying out a few new applications, so not too sure if this has any thing to do with this current problem
I have a core i7 MBP with the high res display, and when the display is showing black, a horizontal green line appears on the screen. It is only visible when the screen is showing black or another very very dark color, and the line is not visible with the screen off. It isnt something on the screen, as rubbing it does not affect it at all. I cannot post a screenshot of it, because it does not appear in the screenshot (it does on my screen, because the line is there physically, but on other monitors it is not visible).

I have had my MacBook Pro since November so it's still new. I take great care of it. This morning, I opened it up and noticed a small black line present under the screen. It has not been dropped, moved, beaten up, etc. It doesn't look like a broken pixel and all of the dead pixel fixers I have tried have not worked. Not sure what to do now. I live two hours away from the closest apple store and I cannot afford to send it out for fixing because I am an online student and need the computer daily.
