MacBook Pro :: Firefox Freezes While Browsing / Bleeping Sound In Windows
Sep 5, 2009Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this. Its pretty random can be 2 or 3 times in 5 minutes or can be evey half hour. Just got a MBP 13" installed snow leopard. In the background I have messenger for mac and entourage running it does not seem to coincide with new messsages or emails. Im using Firefox as browser, which is regularly freezing.

Mar 28, 2009I am Using a new Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook. After having used, and been pleased with Firefox for years now, I find that it just isn't up to snuff on this system. It's super slow most of the time (whereas Safari isn't). It isn't optimized for some websites, like eBay.. Can't upload photos using Firefox. And each time I try to quit Firefox, I have to go in and manually "Force Quit" Because it freezes and won't quit on its own.

Feb 20, 2009I am having a constant laptop freeze issue with both Safari and Firefox. Laptop freeze occurs upon page load followed by most laptop functions being rendered unresponsive and a forced power reboot becomes necessary. In most cases, the cursor remains the only active item on the desktop and I am sometimes able to click on other open applications and bring them forward but that is the limit of their functionality. I can't force quit them via keyboard command either and the system clock is almost always frozen.
During the forced power reboot, the laptop does not seem to go through a permissions correction process (i.e., the long delay that you experience during gray apple screen start-up.) The reboot process is fairly quick and sometimes the only abnormality occasionally noted after reboot is that the desktop background has gone back to a default setting. Not sure if related but sometimes the iTunes library is damaged and has to be rebuilt if application was open prior to freeze. I've run complete diagnostics via Disk Utility, fsck, Applejack and TechTool Pro and no problems are noted.

Software :: Firefox Freezes While Entering URL In Address Bar
May 21, 2009I'd switched to Firefox a year or two ago from Safari after some frustration with Safari's bugs...but since I'd updated to Firefox 3.0.7 it has become ridiculously slow. Here's a typical scenario: Opening Firefox is no problem. Google page appears in a jiffy. But as soon as I clear the address bar and attempt to type in a URL, the beachball comes and Firefox literally freezes for a few minutes, even making it hard for me to switch to any other app that's open. I attempt to type in a complete URL regardless, and it takes Firefox forever to receive the input. The only way I can describe it is like the computer was typing in super-slow motion.
On top of that, I can hear this intermittent "grind/whir" sound of the processor while it lags, I suppose struggling to process the input. BTW, if I clicked on any of the bookmarked pages in the bar beneath the addy bar, it goes directly to them w/o problem. It's only when I attempt to type anything in the address bar that the lag occurs. This has become a total frustration of mine, especially now that I'm doing web design and need Firefox's Firebug add-on to identify CSS elements on the fly in the midst of tight deadlines. In the meantime, Safari works, but it doesn't have that feature.

Jan 18, 2010I used to have a name on this site but haven't used it in 4 or 5 years so I had to create a new one. Anyway, I started having a problem with Safari today. Every time I would go to ESPN or gmail it would freeze up, the spinning rainbow would come up and I would have to force quite the app. I thought it may just be a problem with Safari so I downloaded the latest FireFox and Chrome and to my surprise they began freezing up too doing the same thing. I've got a 13" MBP w/ the 2.53 GHz Core 2 duo and 4GB RAM. I ran a software update yesterday afternoon/evening when prompted to, but didn't check to see what it was. I do know it was one that didn't force me to do a restart.

Jun 29, 2009I have the white MacBook, I've had it about 2 years now. I was wondering if maybe I have too much on my hard drive and that is why my most commonly used applications have suddenly begun to close mid-use. I've never had this problem before and have recently uploaded quite a bit of music/photos to my MacBook, so it seems to be the only logical explanation for it? Or, I don't think I could've gotten a virus because 1. I'm very cautious about the files I download and 2. I don't think Macs are susceptible to most viruses. I could be wrong, though.
Nonetheless, does anyone know of any solution for this?

Feb 1, 2012From a certain moment now i could not surf on some web sites as Facebook (really long to open, then html text on the left,[URL]etc) also when i want to update my apps on iTunes, he sais cannot connect to iTunes store, weired. I already empty the cache, and cookies on Firefox, dosent do anything, oh! Apr 23, 2012I don't like Firefox 11 one bit and am yearning for 3.6. I read online to drag firefox 11 to trash and that, of course did nothing to actually uninstall. I then dowloaded 3.6 and 'installed' that, restarted but still firefox 11 lives on in my computer.

Apr 29, 2012We are using iTunes for Mac with our library (songs as wells as libary files) stored a NAS drive. The NAS drive is used by iTunes and our wireless home audio system (Sonos).
Since yesterday we are no longer able to utilze iTunes. Upon starting iTunes the iTunes windows opens, but the application is not responding. We waited for hours, but iTunes is not repsonding. This is evident by the kaleidoscope and upon pressing optiom + command + esc we can see that iTunes is marked in red and it says ins brackets "not responding".

Jul 5, 2012Whenever I connect my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1) to iTunes (10.6.3) on my Mac (OS 10.7.3) it always freezes, always for about 30 seconds and then it will work again. But let me note, this only happens on the first time I connect my iPhone for the first time I turn on my Mac. I'm not sure if that makes sense. So, when I turn on my Mac and I open iTunes and connect my iPhone, it will freezes but after 30 seconds it will work. But let's say I am done syncing my iPhone and I unplug it but a few minutes later I want to sync it again, if I connect it, it won't freeze. But let's say I restart or turn off my Mac, but after I open iTunes for the first time after I've booted and I connect my iPhone, it will freeze.I've had the same issue with my last iPhone so I know it's not isolated to my iPhone. I have deleted iTunes from the Terminal app and downloaded iTunes from the Apple website, but the issue will persist.Also, I don't have any podcasts synced on my iPhone. I've read that sometimes causes it. I ONLY have music and apps synced.

My problem is that suddenly since last week my Itunes freezes every time I try to connect my IPAD or my IPHONE it was working great but now I have this problem. I already completely remove Itunes and I already re-installed ver 11.2 and 11.2.1 but the problem is the same. I already tried to connect my devices to other computer (I have an IMac) and both devices were recognized without problems. I also restored my IPHONE to default settings but after that the problem is the same one. I would like to say that my devices are being recongnized without problems by my Macbook Pro, it also opens automatically Iphoto and I can get the pictures from my two devices so I know that it is not a problem with my Macbook or the USB ports.

Jun 2, 2009I've been having a problem with iTunes that is driving me nuts. I'm not able to pinpoint exactly when it happened, but I think it was around the time v.8 came out.
iTunes freezes every time I start it up for around 7-8 minutes, then runs OK. This happens every time I start up, without fail.
It also freezes after (sometimes during) syncing with both my iPod Nano and iPhone 3G. It does this every time also, but it's inconsistent...sometimes it freezes during the sync, and sometimes it freezes afterward. Sometimes it takes me doing something like playing a song, but it always happens, regardless of whether I disconnect the device or leave it connected. It only does it after the initial sync; if I leave it connected and resync during the same connection it will not freeze again. The devices themselves are unaffected.
My iTunes library is 147gb. The actual library XML file is 69mb. I'd guess this has something to do with it, but if that is the case...what might be the cutoff size where this wouldn't happen any more? I used to have almost 350gb of stuff in iTunes...I've whittled it down this far and it still isn't helping!
I'm running the 1st gen MacBook Pro with 2gb RAM and a 320gb hard drive. I have approximately 30gb free on the drive, so I don't think hard drive space or RAM is the issue (although I have no way of knowing for sure).
Is there anyone else with libraries this size who are or aren't having the same problem? Can I do anything besides delete more music? And if so, how much do I need to delete? Can the XML file be optimized in any way?
ETA: I did the 8.2 update that came out today and it hasn't changed anything.
ITunes :: 10.6 (40) Freezes Computer At Beginning Of Song?
Mar 13, 2012After upgrading to iTunes 10.6 (40) this week I am experiencing (very) frustrating freezes at the start of every new track in iTunes. The freeze affect the whole computer. Nothing happens (or can happen) at all except the song plays. the freeze lasts 15-20 seconds then everything is back to normal. I expect it may have to do with caching/buffering the new song.Â
I really, really hope this is fixed very soon. I am on a 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Power Mac with 12 GB RAM running Mac OS 10.7.3.Â
