May 25, 2012I have a mid-2010 MBP. Earlier when I was not actively using it, it started beeping very loudly in evenly spaced intervals every few seconds. It seemed unresponsive, so I turned it off by holding the power button. Now it will not boot up. The little white indicator light comes on and I can hear the fans turn on, but that is it. It will not even go to the boot screen.
I had the logic board replaced about a week ago, but otherwise nothing new has been installed software or hardware.

Feb 7, 2012 I have two usb hdds connected to a usb hub. I've never had any issue with it(the hub). After I installed the last update 10.7.3 everytime I restart my computer if I have the hub (with all my hdds and other devices) connected to my computer, the computer won't boot. It get up to the white screen (before the loading wheel). If I unplug the usb cable it starts booting inmediately.

May 7, 2012I was copying over a SD card via the SD Card read to my internal hard drive. Half way through it froze. And it wouldn't let me do anything. I removed the memory card and all I or was a spinning rainbow circle. So I powered off the MacBook manually (holding power button). When it started up again it came to the apple logo. And froze. So like a idiot I manually powered off the MacBook again. Next time it booted it showed me the stop sign.I tried to boot from cd (holding C while laptop starts), the disk spins but ends up hanging on a White screen. Now I don't mind reinstalling OS x over it. But I just need one folder from It. Is there anyway I can connect this MacBook to my mac pro browse the MacBook internal hard drive and copy over the folder I need?

Mar 4, 2009ok, i installed 4gb (2x2)of ram in my alum macbook pro 2,4ghz 15" and in the 1 first time i didn't took off the battery but it went well and booted ok, after that i turned off the computer and the next time keeped making noises.
i tried put the old ram and it's everything ok, i tried both ram slots and memoryes and the 1rs booted ok alone but the second didn't, what is happening, it's the second ram damaged or have you another explanation?

Dec 13, 2010I have a friend who's oldish-Unibody MacBook Pro started giving him the folder with question mark-flashing symbol on boot-up. I guess it could be PRAM, but in any case, he wants to get his data off the hard drive. The computer wouldn't boot up from the install disk (holding 'c' on boot), all I have managed is to put it into Target Disk Mode, with my own MPB. The funny thing is, that it works, but all that mounts on my computer is the Install Disc (in his disk drive) and his hard drive shows up in my disk utility (see below), but it will not mount, and if I try to repair it, it gives me an error and DUPLICATES the original 'root' drive. Does this mean the hard drive itself is damaged and we need to go to a 'data specialist' to get everything off or is there anything else I could try?

Jun 10, 2012I have an older iMac, 20-inch late 2006. Model Identifier iMac5,1. Processor 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM. Running OS X Lion 10.7.4. Suddenly the computer has started to behave erratically. It has been crashing and will no longer boot properly. It will boot OK in Safe Mode, but I can no longer make it boot regularly. What can I do to make this work again. When I try to boot normally, I cannot get past an all white screen, after I hear the start up chime and see the Apple logo. I do have a feeling that OS X Lion is just too much for this computer, and I do plan to buy a new one very soon. Hopefully new iMacs will be announced tomorrow. In the mean time I do need to make this work, until I will get a new computer as soon as the new ones come out.

Aug 22, 2009I inherited a PowerBook G4, 10.3.9, from the previous person in this job. I set up my own user account and log-in. Then foolishly I decided to rename the little house icon folder from the previous owner's name to mine. Now when I use my log-in a clean desktop comes up. In the user's folder is the house icon folder with the previous owner's name, and a folder with my name. All my documents are in that folder, so I haven't lost anything. But how do I get computer to boot back into my account?

Dec 11, 2014 I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and I'm se as shown in the pictures (since i upgraded to os x yosemite) . It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

Where else I can look what's being executed upon boot? because under process I see BlackBerry's Daemon (I'm no longer BlackBerry user, I'm okay to leave Application, but I don't want it to boot up during startup) and I'm pretty sure there is other stuff as well.

Jan 11, 2009I installed XP onto Boot Camp, so I can run some Windows games on it. At first, it didn't seem like it was that bad but after loading Sims 2, 2 expansion packs and 1 stuff pack it was a little... different. Windows still starts up pretty quick and everything, but in OS X... the performance has been decreasing slowly. Doesn't the things only affect the things in the Windows partition instead of OS X? Safari's performance wasn't as smooth as it used to be.

Mar 26, 2008I know there are already several threads with questions on how to wipe an ibook hard drive but this one is slightly different. I can't seem to boot my computer from the install disc that came with it. I turn off the computer, hold down c and get a folder with a question mark in it. However when the computer starts I can see the disc folders. I open up disc utility and can wipe the drive but is this really wiping it? I thought I had to boot up from the CD? I ask as I am selling my machine and don't want to think I have wiped something when I have not. I have also been through the same process (from the disc just running in the drive) to install OSX Tiger. But again how do I know if it has cleared all my old settings? Do I have faulty discs if I cannot re-boot from them. All I want to do is a clean and install.

Feb 24, 2010After many unsuccessful rounds of burning to DL DVDs and flash drives, I settled on making my iPod bootable and running it from there.So I'm excited and running my startup disk on my MBP as the iPod and I've connected my MBP to my iMac G5 PowerPC through firewire and enabled target mode. After booting into the iPod, it gave me the option to install to the new hard drive from the iMac G5 (which is currently connected to my MBP). I installed it through my MBP, and assumed it had installed to my G5.

Sep 2, 2009Have my iMac since March and absolutely no problem. Installed Snow Leopard this weekend and worked just perfect UNTIL I turned the machine off. The next day restarted my computer and now takes about 2 minutes to boot up/then when screen comes up it is frozen for about another 2-3 minutes before can start using it. So basically, takes about 5 minutes from start up to being able to use my iMac. Spent an hour on phone with Apple on Monday night--they really tried--but couldn't fix it and now want me to bring to local Apple authorize dealer to work on it. Called them and they think it is the hard drive going out. But just doesn't make sense---worked just fine until I loaded 10.6 and then turned off machine. Before I bring it in and have them open it up and fool with the internal hard drive---DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA'S WHAT IS HOLDING UP THE STARTUP.

Nov 1, 2006So I've got a powerbook G4, thats 8 days past its warranty. Conveniently, it now won't turn on. It won't wont boot from CD. If I turn it on, I get a gray screen that usually just turns my computer back off, if thats not the case I get a screen that shows the finder icon and a question mark and then turns off.
All it will do is boot into open firmware mode. Currently the install disc is inside of it and I've tried booting the cd using "cd:, bxi" and "dir hd", and it can't open both. Does anyone know how to wipe the HD, and start the installer using firmware? Otherwise, I think I'll have to take out the harddrive and plug it into an external case and then wipe it.
Intel Mac :: Computer Just Freezes - Select What Drivers Want On Boot When Starting In Regular Mode?
Apr 19, 2012It's a 2.16 intel Core 2 duo with the ATI Radeon X1600 128MB video and I'm running OSX 10.7.3. It started happening on Snow leopard so I thought maybe upgrading to Lion would fix it but it has continued exactly the same. I've had an issue for a while now where the computer would just freeze all of a sudden. It happened after a few days at times while sometimes it happen right after a reboot.
Here are the things I've tried.
1. I upgraded to lion
2. I replaced the ram
3. Look at the crash log but found nothing
4. Ram mem check utility but it found nothing
I can boot the computer in safe mode by holding the shift key and it works perfect with no freezing but I loose audio support becuase I think it's not loading the audio drivers. Question is: Can I select what drivers I want on boot when starting in regular mode not safe mode in order to try to disable drivers until I find the issue? Is there anyplace else that I can find which driver caused the computer to freeze after a freeze/crash? If I can ID the driver is there a way to update/replace the driver if it doesn't come up in "software update"? I'm thinking it's the video driver becuase I would occationally get some weird things happening on the screen that I attributed to an older display.
