I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and I'm se as shown in the pictures (since i upgraded to os x yosemite) . It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

My MacBook won't boot up without the system disk, has Lion with 4 Gb Ram all updates, has a DVD stuck n the drive?

I have a new 2012 Macbook pro 17 and a 27 inch thunderbolt display.
The Macbook was working great. Then I connected it to the thunderbolt display and did clamshell mode. That worked well too. But.. then I powered down the macbook, disconnected the thunderbolt dislplay and tried to boot back up again. The mac book powers on, the back light comes on, I hear the chime then that is it. The back light stays on nothing else happens. Resetting the PRAM can not be done. Any of the boot options are ignored. It is like the keyboard is non resposive. I tried all the reset and boot combinations available but nothing works.
The light on the front of the macbook comes on then goes dim. The apple logo on the lid stays lit, and if I close the lid, the apple logo goes dim and the light on the front lights up. Weird, it is almost like it goes to sleep when it turns on. I tried conntecting the thunderbolt again but no joy. I am really disappointed. This is less than a month old and its already going in for repair. It should be replaced.

PROPOSITION: Turn the sleep indicator light to a power indicator light.
I just noticed, the sleep indicator light pulses when my MBP is in sleep, but is always completely off when it's in use. This is actually a little frustrating, as sometimes I leave my MBP idle with the screen off and the backlit keyboard off as well, and I can't tell if the thing is on or not since it's dead silent.
Also, I noticed that when I leave my MBP plugged in, idle overnight, the sleep indicator light is solid in the morning. It's definitely not indicating sleep, since the unit is on, so I'm not sure what it means.
Anyway, anyone else think the sleep indicator light should be solid when the computer is in use? How would you tell the difference between an MBP that is powered off, and closed and slipped into a backpack, from an MBP that is simply powered on but fails to enter sleep for some reason?
Is there a way to keep the light on forever, sort of like a power indicator? ALL my previous laptops have some sort of power LED just so you can at least tell it's on. It just doesn't make sense to me.
The light doesn't on my computer charger is not turning on and not charging.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSooooo I just got my brand shiny new CTO 4GB 13.3 MBA this morning at about 9:45 am yesterday in Illinois. I was sposed to go to bed because I am working nights at the moment but i stayed up for hours setting it up and playing with it (my first MAC) and so I finally get home after working a 12 hour night shift and open up my new MBA expecting instant on and....nothing. The damn thing will not turn on and I tried all the tricks of the trade (suggested by apple support page) and nothing. It was fully charged when I left it in the morning. Also, my magsafe charge light is green which means it is still fully charged right??? Man what a super disappointment. My first MAC and it freaking dies immediately. My Win 7 desktop at least started...good ole faithful (granted it took about 55 seconds...pff)
I'm so sad!
I have an 13" MBP that I ordered new in April, 2012. It is running Lion. I have an external monitor that is capable of 1440x900 resolution. I have an external keyboard and trackpad hooked up, and I like to close my MBP up and stick it in a BookArc. I want to be able to have the internal display disabled and to have the MBP only allow me to put windows on the external display, so long as the lid is closed. I also want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the resolutions available on my external monitor, which are higher than those supported by the internal display (specifically 1440x900).
This doesn't seem to work because I either have to allow the MBP to continue to draw my desktop across both screens (internal and external), OR use the "mirror displays" mode, which restricts my resolution of my external monitor. This means I either forgoe the additional resolution benefits of my external monitor, or I end up with windows that fall off-the-cliff, so to speak, because they are drawn in the portion of the desktop that would be shown on my internal display (which is closed).
I've read the community support pages on using the MBP with an external monitor, most relevantly, this page. It simply recommends using the "mirror displays" option. However, this option, as I mentioned above, doesn't allow me to make use of the additional resolution, and my external display looks bad. how to keep the 13" MBP in closed clamshell position, with the internal display disabled, and use my external monitor at resolutions higher than those allowed by the 13" MBP but which are available to my external monitor when not in "mirror displays" mode?

I am wondering that is it essential to connect power adaptor all the time while operating in closed calmshell mode? When I unpluged the cable it didn't work. Is there some way?

This morning my girlfriend booted up the MP and it froze when she tried to log on. A short time after freezing she was able to bring up the Dashboard but then the computer display went wild flashing like a strobe light. Ever heard of this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just recently purchased my Mac Pro and have tried multiple times to leave it on, with the monitor set to sleep (using hot corner) and the computer set not to sleep. The purpose is to be able to access my music library while on the go. For some reason, when I come back to the computer it won't wake, the power light is on so I'm assuming it froze or had a kernal panic.
I'm running Simplify Media and a Hawking USB wifi adapter to access my music on the go, no other 3rd party peripherals.
Got a bit of a wierd one. Apple 22" cinema display (the old style). Running from a mac pro with a ATI radeon 1900XT graphics card. Have 4 operating systems running, all were working perfectly until last night. Leopard works great - no problems, as does Tiger and Windows XP running boot camp. What does not work is Vista x64. It was not installed with compatible bootcamp because x64 operating systems are not supported yet. It has been running fine for months though? I also run a small dell 17" TFT off the same graphics card and no problems with that. It defaults to the main desktop on starting up vista, but only in vista. And I get this fast flashing light - about 2 every second or so - regularly. No amber lights and no groups of three.

I'm sure it use to do this when i first got it - the display itself is only 6months old

Is there anything I can do to fix this????
I have a 20'' iMac with a 2.4GHz Core 2 and an HD2600XT.
There are light vertical wavy floating lines visible on the screen when running Windows XP. They are more clearly seen when you look the screen at an angle, from down below you look upwards to the screen. The floating lines can be precisely seen on grey backgrounds. These lines are not noticable much, but when you closely look with grey backgrounds, they are visible.
The problem is very strange because I've tried updating the drivers to my HD2600XT, and no luck at all.
I'm not able to determine wether the problem is hardware of software related, due to the problem not existing in Mac OS X.
The iMac G5 (17") doesn't want to boot up, when I press the I/O button it flashes with its white light, and then nothing happens. When I do that with the back-cover off light 1 is lit as long as the machine has power, but light 2 only flashes when I connect the pins that the powerbutton connects. I know that there was a problem with the powersupply, but the soldering I did should have fixed that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.0 GHz early 2005 Power Mac G5 (7,3) that won't get past the light blue screen at start-up. I've tried everything - reset the PRAM, Apple Hardware Check (on overnight loops, everything came back OK), fsck (all OK), repaired my HD and permissions on it, and then erased the drive using Target Disk Mode and another Mac, and attempted to reinstall OSX from the install disk that came with it (with OSX Tiger). I've tried switching out the RAM with no luck.
The only thing I haven't tried is a new video card (the installed one is an ATI Radeon 9600). Here's what it does: powers on with the usual chime, then moves on to the white Apple screen, the wheel spins, then it moves on to a darker blue screen, then it finally moves on to a lighter blue screen with an arrow, and it just stays there. It will boot into safe mode (pressing shift), but I can't even upgrade to Leopard in safe mode, much less figure out what's wrong.
I have a mid-2010 MBP. Earlier when I was not actively using it, it started beeping very loudly in evenly spaced intervals every few seconds. It seemed unresponsive, so I turned it off by holding the power button. Now it will not boot up. The little white indicator light comes on and I can hear the fans turn on, but that is it. It will not even go to the boot screen.
I had the logic board replaced about a week ago, but otherwise nothing new has been installed software or hardware.
I've set my energy saver preferences to put the display to sleep after 10 mins and the computer to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity. The display sleeps but the computer always stays on, whether on battery or A/C. What's the problem here?
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo I've recently connected my MacBook to an external display (a TV actually). Obviously, when I close the MacBook's screen the computer goes to sleep. How do I stop this from happening? I checked in 'help', it said that if I connected the monitor to the computer after closing the display, the computer would continue to run with the display closed. I've already connected it all though (running cables through cabinets, etc.) and I don't really want to undo all of that! Is there an easier way to set the computer to stay on (as opposed to entering sleep mode) when the display is closed?

I have a 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. When I boot the computer, sometimes the display does not turn on. I've tried using the flashlight technique, and there isn't even anything on the LCD. I know the computer is on because it makes the chime and if I enter my password I can adjust the volume and play music. Occasionally, resetting the SMC will fix the issue temporarily, but it doesn't always work. What should I do?

I have two usb hdds connected to a usb hub. I've never had any issue with it(the hub). After I installed the last update 10.7.3 everytime I restart my computer if I have the hub (with all my hdds and other devices) connected to my computer, the computer won't boot. It get up to the white screen (before the loading wheel). If I unplug the usb cable it starts booting inmediately.

I was copying over a SD card via the SD Card read to my internal hard drive. Half way through it froze. And it wouldn't let me do anything. I removed the memory card and all I or was a spinning rainbow circle. So I powered off the MacBook manually (holding power button). When it started up again it came to the apple logo. And froze. So like a idiot I manually powered off the MacBook again. Next time it booted it showed me the stop sign.I tried to boot from cd (holding C while laptop starts), the disk spins but ends up hanging on a White screen. Now I don't mind reinstalling OS x over it. But I just need one folder from It. Is there anyway I can connect this MacBook to my mac pro browse the MacBook internal hard drive and copy over the folder I need?

When I am in a quiet room, I notice a light humming coming from my macbook pro and also a light vibration on the right side. Is this just the hd spinning or something to be concerned about? it is 2 weeks old.
