View 5 RepliesI have a late 2006 MacBookPro, OSX10.5.8 . The machine will run fine on battrey power to a bout %50 or %60 and then just completely shut down. No going down to %20 or %30 and a warning etc ... This has only started happening in the last month or so. The battery is about a year and a half old, 198 cycles and shows about 3200mAh at full charge. I do understand the batteries in these things are only good for a bout 300 cycles. What I don't get is th lack of warning of any kind.

I just replaced my battery and now my computer shuts down randomly no matter how much battery power I have. Most recently it shut down with over 70% battery life. I followed the instructions on the new battery, but I can't figure out what is causing this type of issue based on my settings that didn't change from the original battery.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a ibook G4 that's been randomly shutting down. It started doing this maybe about a month ago but it's started getting really bad lately. At first it would shut down if I unplugged the adapter. Not every time I unplugged it, but probably about 50% of the time. When I press the battery button all of the green lights would light up. About half of the time it will start up again if I just hit the power button but the half of the time I have to reset the pRAM. Lately this same thing has been happening except when the computer is still plugged in. And when in say shutting down I mean essentially instantaneously. One second it's on and then the screen goes black and it makes that turning off noise. Not a chime, but like all the fans and hardware are coming to a stop.
Is there a simple way to shut off the computer at a specific time?
It seems like an easy thing to do that shouldn't require writing a fancy script.
For the last few months, my MP has had a strange quirk. When I select Shutdown, the computer restarts instead. Then, at the login screen, I select shutdown and it will then turn off. I've tried disconnecting all USB and Firewire connections (except keyboard and mouse) with the same results. It does seem to be time related. For example, if I start up the computer, get to the desktop and then shutdown, it turns off no problem. However, after its been running for a bit it will do the restart thing instead.
View 24 Replies View RelatedFor the past two nights, my iMac has randomly completely shut down. I set it to sleep before going to bed. When I woke up, it was shut down. And the weird thing is that it was shut down, and when it started up, no applications or anything were open. Generally, I'll shut down and it keeps everything open and running, then when I turn it back on, everything is where it was. I don't know if I lost documents or anything... or everything. I've never seen this before since getting Lion.
I checked my energy saver schedule... I had it set to SLEEP at midnight. But it is never set to shut down or start up. And even if it was, why are all the apps closing when it shuts down?

I don't know if this has been discussed here but all of a sudden my iMac, running Snow Leopard, 10.6.1) keeps waking up all on it's own. I believe this started after the latest update of Java and Super drive firmware (I believe these were the latest updates).
Is there anything I can do short of shutting the computer down.
You can automatically shut down or start up your mac at anytime you like.
simply go to energy saver preferences>and click schedule
Why my mac can't do so? Any ideas?I did set the day and time but it seems nothing did happen. What did I do wrong?
I had purchased the new retina MBP and i used to have a macbook air. I have a MacBook which has recently been shutting down when it feels like :/ this all started a week or two ago (well not the shut downs but other issues that I'll get too), basically the fan I think has been knocked as it is bumping the top or something as the whirring is getting loud and it sounds like every now and again it hits something
Also CPU usage seems to be averaging out at 20% for Safari and 100% for HD Video where as it used to be very small amount for Safari and 30 - 40% for HD.
I recently installed Leopard. On my way to bed I saw that there was an update to be installed. I clicked install, but the install took to long (and was being executed in a special screen after the shut down of the computer, so there were no annulation options) and I was so annoyed with the length of the installation that I shut my computer down. A big no, so it seems, because the next morning when I booted my computer, the login screen appeared. I set up-auto login, so seeing a login window was strange. When I entered my correct password, I first saw a blue screen and then returned to the log-in screen. There appears to be no way for me to log-in.
Things I've tried: safe boot, booting with the install DVD (I checked the harddrive for any problems, there were none) and booting while pressing an interesting variety of keys. With the same result: none. I tried doing the root-user thing, but to no avail. I think I don't have root user selected in finder. The updated I tried to install was the last one seeded by apple, I think it was the 10.5.3 update; there were three files to be installed. My computer is and intel iMac from the first quarter of 2007.
My Mac book pro is 1 year old. I just updated my software yesterday now upon starting up, the computer will not move past the start up apple screen.

I have bought the new Macbook Pro and I want to move my programs from my old mac to my new one. How do I do this without damaging the files? Do I have to include a lot of trash files or can I just move the .app file over? I?m using Logic, can you move project files only without moving the program?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am getting a 2008 Mac Pro and handing off my 2006 mac Pro to the wife. What is the easiest way to move all my stuff. The 2008 comes with Leopard. So I was thinking about putting in an SSD drive in the 2008, loading in Snow Leopard and then copying over my application user folder? Or is there a better way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to move an account from my iMac to my Mac Pro, which would be in addition to other accounts I have on the MP. I know that there is migration assistant, but that imports apps over too doesn't it? Can I combine apps and a user account?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI followed directions to migrate to icloud, however, the calendar set up three new calendars, two of which (home and work) are named the same as two old ones. I have about 6 calendars in cluding home and work that I need to move to icloud and not to create new calendars.

I tried going to file > Export items in keychain, but it's grayed out. I tried about 10 different items and they were ALL grayed out. Is there a master file in the library (or whever) that I can just copy and paste into my desktop's library? I have nothing oin my desktop keychain, so I don't mind replacing it completely.

Is it possible to move my files and programs that I have backed up on a Time Capsule to my computer without having to restore from a backup?
I had to get my hard drive replaced on my Macbook (running OS 10.5.7) but on all of my backups "Preview" is missing (was somehow deleted when I installed Gimp).
Every time I restore from a backup Preview is gone. Is it possible for me to move all of my files and programs to my MacBook without restoring from a backup?
I own an iPad mini Gen1 with a ton of music, apps etc. from my old computer which broke down recently. I'd like to sync my iPad to my Time Capsule, apps, backups and all without losing any files. I still have access to the old Apple ID. So, how do I sync without deleting everything on it? I already deleted my entire iPod trying to do this.

I tried to move a load of unwanted iTunes files to the recycling bin, but missed! They duly loaded onto the desktop, then the computer hung (there were only about 3,000 of them, by the way!) What can I do to put my little baby's desktop right? On a related issue, my recently purchased G5 dual desktop refuses to acknowledge my G4 (which is in firewire 'target disk' mode') I have connected 6 pin to 6 pin.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Daylite and Daylite Server on my MBP connected to the net and sync my iPad running Daylite Touch through my 3G connection. It works great while I have my MBP running. I want to set up my MBP so that it will run without shutting down (screen blanked out). I just want to do this for a few days to see how it works out. If I like it I will get a Mac Mini to run as the server instead of the MBP.
The problem I am having is that no matter how I adjust the settings on the MBP, after awhile it shuts down Daylite and Daylite Server. Daylite Server shuts down and puts out an error message and everything just hangs there. I figure I must be doing something wrong in the settings but don't know what. I tried searching the forums, google, apple support, etc. but haven't found anything - of course I am probably searching all those wrong too.
