I just replaced my battery and now my computer shuts down randomly no matter how much battery power I have. Most recently it shut down with over 70% battery life. I followed the instructions on the new battery, but I can't figure out what is causing this type of issue based on my settings that didn't change from the original battery.

purchased a macbook Unibody back in October 2008 when they were released and use it heavily. The battery no longer holds a nice long charge - I get about 2 to 2.5 hours out of a full charge.
The battery has 149 cycles on it, which is obviously high (and correct, I use the hell out of it). With it still being in warranty, is it worth pursuing a replacement battery? Will Apple tell me to go take a hike with the high cycle counts?
I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. and lately whenever i been running on battery, the computer has been randomly powering off. as it it losing all power, but it doesn't seem to matter what level the battery is at. but once i plug the AC adapter it, i do not have any kind of problem. i guess it could just be a dead battery.

When i unplug the power adapter it works fine, but at about 80% battery it shuts off. i go to turn it back on and it acts as if it is dead, i press the power button again and it turns on without problem (although the date and time at first is messed up). What is wrong? I recently had to get my hard drive replaced 2 months ago and it has been working fine until yesterday.

I have a Macbook Pro from 2007 (aluminium keyboard). Everything was working great until a couple of days ago, when I replaced the battery.
No every time I choose to shut down the computer, it will restart and NOT shutdown. I have tried several things - the only thing that seems to work is to unplug the power chord - then it will shut down, but if the power plug is connected, the computer basically can't shut down - it just restarts.
I am looking for a good quality replacement battery for my MBP. Battery model is a1281. There are literally hundreds available, but which ones are a good quality piece? Any info or links to the one you guys bought would be awesome. Also, is the original battery a 4600mAh or a 5200mAh? Ive seen both listed as the same a1281 battery.

OS X is telling me it's ot issues, and I took to my nearest Apple Store a couple of months ago. However, I didn't know they'd need my MBP, I thought they could just test my battery, so I didn't get it replaced.
I bought the MBP over 1 year ago from an official reseller.
I've used programs to find out battery information, and I'm at half the cycles it should have before it starts to lose power, and it's health is low.
From your experience, will Apple replace it for free?
Several posts mention Apple's refusal to repair swollen batteries.I'm still so surprised they do not consider replacing a part which is clearly not without risk.
Our research lab has 8 MBP's; 3 of them had swollen batteries after little more then 1 year. Each time, the battery kept on swelling after it was taken out. Two times, Applecare replaced the battery, but only after long chats where they had to be convinced that it didn't look normal.
Now, Apple refuses to replace the battery because it is out of warranty (16 months old - 334 cycles). This time I do not have Applecare but a 3 year contract with the shop. Apples tells me to go the shop (their only officiea repair center in the region).
The shop is not able to obtain a battery from Apple either, although the shop says it is clearly a manufactuing issue.
I understand lithium batteries can explode and burn at some point.
Hey guys just got a replacement battery from apple. It came with 35% charge and I am wondering if I am meant to calibrate it? Should I let it run down and then charge up or charge up straightaway?
I have a MBP supplied in Feb 2011, something was not quite right with the keyboard so they replaced the top case. I went to upgrade the ram and noted that the battery was damaged, they broke one of the plastic pieces that the screw goes into to hold the battery. At the same time the top case that they repalced discoloured. I mentioned both things and apple replaced the top case and the battery. While after some use the top case looks fine I can't say the same for the battery. It seems not to last as long, while happy to monitot it for a short while I wanted to check if anything should be done when replacing the battery? Does the MBP need to be told it has a new battery?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2006 MacBookPro, OSX10.5.8 . The machine will run fine on battrey power to a bout %50 or %60 and then just completely shut down. No going down to %20 or %30 and a warning etc ... This has only started happening in the last month or so. The battery is about a year and a half old, 198 cycles and shows about 3200mAh at full charge. I do understand the batteries in these things are only good for a bout 300 cycles. What I don't get is th lack of warning of any kind.

I am using it right now, when I plug the ac connector it doesn't turn red to show me that it is charging or something also the battery icon is showing an X but the battery is still running. I paid $60 for it.

My 17-inch MacBook Pro is about five years old, and the battery seems to be completely dead. It will not start up, will not take a charge, and cannot be used, whether plugged in or not. A multitester test suggests that the power supply no longer works either. My MacBook has one of the older-design power supplies, with the circular port, rather than the newer, magnetic, rectangular ones. I'm planning on getting a new MacBook in the near future, but I need to access some things that are saved on my old Mac's hard drive, if at all possible.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently had a problem where my 13" 3 yr old macbook would just blink off. then it became shorter and shorter until it would not start up. i brought it to apple who told me after inspection that it had liquid damage and the battery connector and logic board needed to be replaced for an astounding 800+ dollars. the book only cost me 1100!! i got the book back (obviously i didnt pay that, i am sane!), i fiddled with it by trying to start with just the battery. no response. with the battery and charger. starts for just seconds. and then with just the charger. walla! starts up and runs like new.

After getting the battery, I calibrated it right away by draining the battery, letting it sit for five hours, and then charging it. The new battery only holds 2 hours at 100% charge. Is the replacement a dud or something else wrong?

The subject pretty much says it all. I'm living in Egypt but bought my first generation black MacBook in the US in 2006. Earlier this year I noticed the battery bulging to the point where getting it in the case is problematic. I know this is an issue with many Apple batteries for some reason. I did the command option P R thing to reset but didnt work also does that when im going to safe mode. i also try to clean install my operating system but still nothing happens the problem is there i did also a hardware test and everything is ok verify disk : ok permissions ok: i dont know what else to do?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a ibook G4 that's been randomly shutting down. It started doing this maybe about a month ago but it's started getting really bad lately. At first it would shut down if I unplugged the adapter. Not every time I unplugged it, but probably about 50% of the time. When I press the battery button all of the green lights would light up. About half of the time it will start up again if I just hit the power button but the half of the time I have to reset the pRAM. Lately this same thing has been happening except when the computer is still plugged in. And when in say shutting down I mean essentially instantaneously. One second it's on and then the screen goes black and it makes that turning off noise. Not a chime, but like all the fans and hardware are coming to a stop.
My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged.
When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up. I tried holding the power button down through boot up reset, as well as removing all power (plug and battery) and holding down the power button for 10 seconds reset.

I gave my wife my Late 2006 white MacBook which she loves. Recently, the battery has stopped charging (it has 250 cycles or something like that). Is it far fetched to goto an apple store and ask for a replacement or should I just get a new one. I have only had this laptop for a year and I would think that is kinda short.
I am not under AppleCare BTW.
Is there a simple way to shut off the computer at a specific time?
It seems like an easy thing to do that shouldn't require writing a fancy script.
For the last few months, my MP has had a strange quirk. When I select Shutdown, the computer restarts instead. Then, at the login screen, I select shutdown and it will then turn off. I've tried disconnecting all USB and Firewire connections (except keyboard and mouse) with the same results. It does seem to be time related. For example, if I start up the computer, get to the desktop and then shutdown, it turns off no problem. However, after its been running for a bit it will do the restart thing instead.
View 24 Replies View RelatedFor the past two nights, my iMac has randomly completely shut down. I set it to sleep before going to bed. When I woke up, it was shut down. And the weird thing is that it was shut down, and when it started up, no applications or anything were open. Generally, I'll shut down and it keeps everything open and running, then when I turn it back on, everything is where it was. I don't know if I lost documents or anything... or everything. I've never seen this before since getting Lion.
I checked my energy saver schedule... I had it set to SLEEP at midnight. But it is never set to shut down or start up. And even if it was, why are all the apps closing when it shuts down?
