Software :: Unable To Move Unwanted Files To Recycle Bin - Computer Hangs
Aug 13, 2009
I tried to move a load of unwanted iTunes files to the recycling bin, but missed! They duly loaded onto the desktop, then the computer hung (there were only about 3,000 of them, by the way!) What can I do to put my little baby's desktop right? On a related issue, my recently purchased G5 dual desktop refuses to acknowledge my G4 (which is in firewire 'target disk' mode') I have connected 6 pin to 6 pin.
Is it possible to move my files and programs that I have backed up on a Time Capsule to my computer without having to restore from a backup?
I had to get my hard drive replaced on my Macbook (running OS 10.5.7) but on all of my backups "Preview" is missing (was somehow deleted when I installed Gimp).
Every time I restore from a backup Preview is gone. Is it possible for me to move all of my files and programs to my MacBook without restoring from a backup?
My names Mike and I'm quite a computer savvy person. I've usually always been able to fix my own computer problems, but I'm stumped this time. I've been using iTunes since iTunes 4.0 was released. I love it (just about the only Mac product I do like). Anyway, I like a clean computer, rid of music I don't like/listen to. Usually I just delete a song or 2 within the library and I always got 2 dialog boxes. Basically, 1. Asking me if I'm sure I want to delete it and 2. To keep the files or move to the recycle bin.
Well, recently, up to the new iTunes release 9.1.0.79, every time I delete a file from the library, I only get dialog box number 1, and not number 2. So it only deletes the file from the library, not the hard drive. So I've had to personally go into the folder and delete it I've tried to do some research myself, and it appears for the second dialog box to show it's face, the file you're deleting must be in the iTunes folder... well, that's ruled out. All my music is auto-organized by iTunes within it's own folder.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 iTunes: 9.1.0.79
I own an iPad mini Gen1 with a ton of music, apps etc. from my old computer which broke down recently. I'd like to sync my iPad to my Time Capsule, apps, backups and all without losing any files. I still have access to the old Apple ID. So, how do I sync without deleting everything on it? I already deleted my entire iPod trying to do this.
Whenever I start the Mac, there is always a folder named "recovered files" in the recycle bin...even though the bin was empty before previous shutdown. There is a "wkresources" in the folder. What is this? I really want to see a clear bin when start. Can I do something to change that?
I am using a totally legal Microsoft office for Mac. I do not set to share any thing from my Mac to anyone. I got this warning in the log and I do not know whether there is any problem with it. I am a bit paranoid if any spyware/trojan that is trying to open backdoord connection to steal data from my Mac. I also sometimes found some strange files in the recycle bin that named something like "recovery" but it turned into something else when clicked on the files.

I'm new to Mac and am trying to move a slew of files from my PC in preparation for a total switch. In this case, I had two folders with numerous subfolders that I wanted to make available on my iMac G5 (Leopard). I copied the folders to CDs, then transferred them to the Mac. But now I'm unable to write to those folders/subfolders. Apparently, my permission is restricted to "read only." When I go to Finder, then Get Info and try to change the permission, Mac will not recognize my administrator's password. The folders/subfolders were not password protected on the PC so I don't know what password Mac is looking for. I need full access to these files (R/W) on the Mac.
I am no longer able to move files via Finder or on my Desktop. When I click on a file, it is selected and the name of the file is high lighted in blue. I can move it around the screen but it is "stuck" to the cursor. When I let go of the mouse button, the file remains stuck to the cursor and sometimes, I can interact with various elements, i.e. buttons, etc. as if the file had never been selected, yet its icon remains attached to the cursor. After a while, the icon will disappear.I have tried restarting, shutting down and restarting and repairing permissions without success. Also, looks like auto-correction and spelling is no longer working either as it doesn't recognize misspelled words anymore.

Trash won't empty. I have had dropbox application and removed it, and now want to remove the dropbox folder I tried resetting the PRAM as it was expressed in one of the topics but it didn't work the files are stuck in the trash and when I go to empty my trash it just gets me emptying and doesn't want to move further than that.
I have a hp personal media drive where all my stuff from my pc is. I put it on there when I got rid of my pc and now I need the files when I try moving them over it keeps saying not sufficient privileges.
I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2. I have two folders A and B on airport drives. I wish that Folder B be an exact copy of folder A. Chronosync is installed on my computer. My problem is that folder B contains files which are not on folder A. I can't seem to find a setting on chronosync to remove same, I know it should be a simple thing to do.
I'm trying to delete a bunch of unwanted files that take up a lot of space, and I'm finding this file that is 2 gigs, which labeled: private/var/vm/sleepimage, but I can't access the file or delete it. (I'm using a program called GrandPerspective which visually represents how memory is being used).
title says it all im looking for a good app to clean inside mac. i tried cleanmymac it was ok but i think there are better apps out there that i dont know about.
I need to get files off of my damaged Macbook and I'm not sure how to do it. Is there a way to transfer files from my macbook to another computer? The damage is to the screen of my macbook and it is severe- you can only see the top left of screen, the rest is cracked/blacked out. Is there anything I can do?
I have just updated my iMac G5 to 10.5.6. When I restart, it hangs on the blue screen before log in. I have restarted in Safe Mode (no problem there) and removed the APE files in the library folder, as suggested on support.apple.com. I have also repaired permissions and verified the drive. Still no luck.
Is it really possible that the computer needs hours to restart after the update? And would it be better for me to restore using Time Machine or do an Archive & Install with the Leopard discs? The computer was acting a little funky before I updated to 10.5.6 (iTunes was sluggish), but I never had a problem rebooting.
I've had my iMac for about a year, and since I first bought it, it hangs on at least 25% of the web page transitions, sometimes for as long as 20 or 30 seconds. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and it's become even worse. Doesn't matter if I use Safari or Firefox. Also, hanging affects my widgets (such as the weather Radar), but I never lose connection to Skype or Messenger. I've tried resetting both browsers, but I don't think it's a browser issue. It's connected via cable, not wireless. Also, I have my work laptop always connected at home and never have a problem with connectivity. I've lugged my computer to the Apple store.
My iMac has slowed down signficantly recently and sometimes hangs at log-in or very occasionally at other times. The screen grab of the activity monitor shows the amount of memory 'used' at log-in with no software open - is it normal for half the memory to be 'used' already?
I had purchased the new retina MBP and i used to have a macbook air. I moved all of my files over to my new computer (NOT using migration assistant, wanted a new setup) and i got everything but my keychains. How can i move my internet keychains over? BTW, the computer wont let me export internet keychains...
I have a late 2008 uMBP 15 inch and in safari, regardless of using the integrated graphics card or the higher end card, when I press apple t for a new tab the computer hangs for at least 10 seconds then once it finally loads the top sites page it appears all scrambles for a second, then it works normally.
My second problem is that my hinge is very loose. I can't hold the laptop at 45 degree angle without the screen falling down and closing. Will apple fix this?
I have a batch of HD video downloads in my iTunes Store queue that I can't delete. Before it was annoying, having to purchase both the regular video and HD video, then delete the unwanted HD download from my queue list, but now it's a problem. I can't empty the unwanted HD downloads, and for me to download them all will tie up my connection for a week or more.
When I try to send/get (or someone else does on another alum. MB) via Bluetooth, it just hangs on preparing file for transfer and doesn't do anything further then that... With both small and large file sizes.
I've been using it as an alternative to firefox...which hangs too much for my liking.
But I have 2 problems with it.
When I am using a mouse the center scroll wheel click will not close a tab (provided i'm clicking on the tab) nor will it open up my homepage in a new tab (when i center click on the home page button).
