Feb 24, 2009anyways next thing i know i boot my computer and it stops at the blue login screen before it has the option to login with the spinning wheel and does a loop of blue screens with spinning wheel. wont boot in safe mode and it always stops at the same screen. so i looked around on the web and it sounded like a had to archive and install. so i did that and then half an hour in it told me i had a corrupt file and i had to restart.

Feb 2, 2010I have a MacBook 13" 2.0 GHz with 1 GB Ram and a 80GB harddrive 2006 model. This machine recognizes all ram, DVD, Hard Drive and ng usb etc. seems to work perfectly. BUT, it will only startup if I HOLD the PowerButton down all the way down until I see the the Apple Logo. If I just hit the powerbutton and go, it will t reboot over and over and over. I have bought new ram, nope. I tried a different HD, nope. I disconnected the DVD, nope. It simply won't boot properly. Once I HOLD down the power button to get it running it works fine, sees the camera, BT, WIFI, clock is at right time, all keys on KB work, and usb peripherials. I cannot reset the pram or vram at all, even while holding the power button down to boot. If I just hit the button and quickly press Command option p r it just reboots like always. Does anyone have any ideas??? I'm at a loss as it works fine once booted. While holding the power button to boot it I see my front led flashing and then hear the several beeps and it starts up just fine.
I have pulled the battery, removed the PSU, held the power button for a whole minute battery or power and let it sit overnight like this but nada, still does this.
MacBook Pro Running Lion / Battery Died Now Will Not Boot
May 8, 2012I have a Lion-native early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro aluminum unibody running 10.7.3.I was using it an hour and a half ago.I closed the lid, and when I came back to it an hour later, the battery had died.Plugging in to a charger did not wake it.I force shut it down by holding command+option+control+shift and the power button.Now, when I turn it on, I see the white screen for a half second, then it fades to black.The indicator light stays on and solid (not pulsating).I have tried:
- Resetting the PMU
- Resetting the PRAM (white screen for half second, then fades to black, each time)
- Booting to Single User (white, then fades to black)
- Booting to Recovery Mode (white, then fades to black)
I have tried to provide all the pertinent details as well as what I have tried.Please let me know if you need more information.

Aug 25, 2014I have a macbook pro 15-inch, Early 2011 running osx 10.9.4. I have a SSD hard drive that i installed myself a year ago and hasn't shown any defects. Its a 120 gb OCZ-AGILITY3.Â
My macbook will only boot in safe mode nowadays. I have done a complete erasion of my hard drive and installed osx mavericks twice already. After the installation the computer will safely go to the desktop. But if i then do a reboot it won't get further than after the first apple logo, sometime the turning wheel will pop up, before turning off and trying again. i have tried resetting PRAM, I have tried resetting SMC, i have tried avoiding SMC (with big fan rate), but all with no success.Â
I have done a complete hardware test (the longer one) and it showed "no troubles found".Â
My guess is that the problem is with the battery. My computer won't run anymore without the adapter, when i pull the adapter out it either stays on for a while before just turning off. Without having it plugged in it won't start. Is it possible that during normal start up there is some kind of communication with the battery that can cause this?Â
I ran a diagnostic shown in this thread (Will only boot in safe mode) and included it in this post.

Jun 14, 2012I'm trying to install 10.7 Lion on my wife's MBP. In the process of doing that, the Lion installer says her hardrive is not "journaled" and that I need to "enable journaling". The recommendation for that is to boot off an install CD and enable it via Disk Doctor. Seems easy enough.Â
Unfortunately, she can't find the 10.6 Snow Leopard CD. I have an old 10.5 Leopard disc that I put in and tried to boot from while holding the C key. The disc spins and spins, but I only see a gray screen.Â
I also tried holding "shift" and selecting the disc as my start up volume. Same thing; gray screen.Â
My questions are:Â
1: Is it even possible to boot off the 10.5 disc when running 10.6?
2: If not, is there anything else I can do to boot off an external volumeÂ

When trying to restart, the computer wouldn't boot anymore but got stuck on the grey screen w/ grey apple logo, without any error message. May 13, 2010I finally made the switch from PC to Mac buy selling my HP laptop and desktop computers and buying the new MacBook Pro. However, I have licenses for Creative Suite 4 for Windows and still need to run it on my Mac using Boot Camp and/or Parallels until I can afford to jump to CS5 for Mac (this MBP took a big chunk of my cash). I'd like to run Windows using Boot Camp AND Parallels - Boot Camp when I need all system resources and Parallels when I need to hop over to Windows to type a Word document or something quick (got Office 2007 for Windows too).
Can I use both Boot Camp and Parallels with one serial number for Windows 7? If so, how do I install? Would I install Windows on Boot Camp or Parallels first? If anyone has some guidance for installing one copy of Windows 7 on both applications
OS X V10.7 Lion :: IMac A1225 Crash Running AHT Then Goes Into A Boot Loop
May 1, 2012I have an iMac A1225 EMC2211 that is exhibiting some weird behaviour. After about 5 minutes of using it (cold boot) it will either have a kernel panic, freeze and go into a blue (bondi blue I think) screen, or shut down. I ran an extended AHT on it and after 10 minutes it shuts down (black screen) then goes into a boot loop (screen stays black and system chimes once every 2 seconds). If the system is warm it will not boot (goes to blank grey screen). The consol reports something with the NVRAM (havent had the ability to post the log yet).

Nov 30, 2014I have a problem with my iMac which is running OSX 10.8.5. I think the easiest way to explain this would be to just give a simple example. For example let's say I have Excel and Word both open. I shut them both down. Then I completely shut down my computer. Power off. I go to bed. Next morning I boot up and guess what? Word and Excel are now running again, just as if I had never shut them them down.

Every time it comes back **** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED **** and never that the volume is ok. This blue screen problem occurred after trying to hook up a wireless router and changing settings in airport. If anyone knows how I can fix this.

Sep 9, 2014My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.Â
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.

If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.

Jun 4, 2014My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Mar 15, 2012My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".

Jun 11, 2012I have a MacBook 4,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor 4GB Ram. It is taking over 10 minutes to boot up past the gray apple screen when I turn it on. First I cleared the PRam (?) then I checked the disk using Disk Utility Verify, and it said the disk needed repairs. So I ran the disk repair and it said it was unable to fix the errors on the HD. Â
I did a little research and tried booting into the Single User mode, then running /sbin/fsck -fy. It said that it found errors but could not fix them. I ran it two more times as suggested and got the same result each time. I then tried rebooting and now instead of taking 10 minutes to boot up, it takes about 5 minutes on the gray apple screen and then just turns off. I started in Verbose mode to try to troubleshoot the error and it appears the last thing to come across the screen before power down is a message "Apple Yukon 2: RxRingSize <= 1024....etc".Â
I decided next I would run the Apple Hardware Tester. The test came back with an error code "4SNS/1/40000001:IG0C-0.265". I am very good at searching the web but I could not find any errors that had the IG0C or IGOC or any combination at the end, but plenty of 4SNS/1/40000000(1) errors with different endings. From what I can tell people are saying anything with 4SNS/1/4000000 is a logic board failure, but this computer was literally just booting this morning until I did the /sbin/fsck -fy.Â

Background:
I've got an MCE Optibay in my Mid-2010 i7 MBP. When installing Bootcamp it refuses to install from the external USB DVD drive. In the end I pulled the 2nd HDD out and reconnected the internal DVD. It then worked fine without a hitch. Then I reinstalled the 2nd HDD and all was fine for a few days.
Now I want to resize my Win7 partition (bigger, as MS Visual Studio's bigger than I thought, and I might stick some games on). I can shrink the OSX partition fine with Disk Utility, but windows won't grow the Win7 one because the empty space is before the Win7 partition, not after it. Apparently this can be done with GParted. Guess what? I can't boot the Linux based GParted CDROM from the external USB DVD drive! So, will a Firewire one work where USB fails, and solve my alternative OS booting issues? If I buy one I can then either use GParted, or delete the Win7 partition and start again without having to pull the laptop to bits all over again, only to put it back once I'm done, and possibly have the same issues in the future. Obviously I don't want to blow extra money getting a Firewire DVD drive though if it's a waste of money...
MacBook Pro :: Switching The Boot Drive (want To Boot From The Optibay) How Can This Be Done
Mar 28, 2010I run SSD/HDD, my HDD in the optibay is broken, I stuck it in a external and it makes finder freeze, it got bumped around too much so I want to put a new one back in the 'correct place' for a spinner, and stick the SSD in the optibay.(I figure the extra 2% of shock protection offered by the orange rubber circle things is worth the trouble of moving everything).
I am also going to buy a WD 3 platter 1TB laptop drive, and I read that they fit fine in the regular spot in MBP's (I'm going to open and measure in a min.)Anyways, there's no BIOS, only EFI, so how to I pick what drive to boot from? with 10.6 is it as simple as holding option down on boot, and picking my 'OSX' HDD, and then it will auto boot from that until I specify otherwise? (I ask because before 10.6 people on here were always talking about how to switch boot drives.)

May 13, 2010Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.
Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.

Jun 25, 2010Im trying to reinstall osx from my flash drive. The problem im having is after i hold option and click on the flash drive icon to boot it, nothing happens the arrow icon greys out like its being click, but it does nothing.
I also tried installing from the dvd with the same result. Im posting here because I searched google far and wide and have come up with nothing. Anyone know whats going on here?
