My roommate has an ancient PowerMac G4 / 450 Mhz that runs on 10.3.9. Recently, he installed an Airport update that came up in Software update. When trying to restart, the computer wouldn't boot anymore but got stuck on the grey screen w/ grey apple logo, without any error message. As of now, I am planning to boot from my 10.3 Install disk and try to restore the system, hopefully without losing any data.

I just downloaded the latest update to Parallels. I shut down Parallels before running the update, and I even did a reboot of the computer.And yet every time I run the update program it keeps telling me to "shut down these running and suspended virtual machines" and refers to "My Boot Camp"Like I said, I rebooted the computer first. View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, I'd like to clarify that I am running MAC OSX Leopard, Windows XP Professional and Ubuntu Linux on my home network. I was an IT Director in my previous career and familiar with the technical workings of the proper network setup. I am having issues with the FTP Server. I have a NAS (Network Access Storate Device w/RAID 1) DLink DNS-323 which is great, and the FTP Server works just as well "within" my private network behind my router. Unfortunately, it does not when accessing from the public internet. I have checked and double checked, as well as tried different settings to get this to work. I am using an Apple Airport Extreme with a Netopia DSL modem attached (Pass Through Mode) using PPPoE. I can actually authenticate from the public internet into the DNS, but after authenticating, my browser just stays in loading mode; therefore it is reaching it at some point.
(BTW, I know it is b/c I also purposefully entered a wrong password and it returned an access denied message). I know the DNS-323 FTP Server is working, as I said before, it works when I access it directly behind my router (private network), so I know my browsers (Tried Safari, Firefox and Explorer) and have confirmed the settings on both the DNS and my Apple router numerous times. All ports on both sides are set to 21 (DNS and Private/Public on the Airport Extreme). I've ensured to assign a static IP on the router for the DNS-323. What can be causing this failure to access the FTP Server?
I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 running OSX 10.5.8 and want to have wireless capability, if possible. There does not appear to be a dedicated slot for an Airport Extreme card on the motherboard, so I'm wondering if there's a card that would work in one of the spare PCI slots?

If I use the Palm Pre on my airport extreme, it lowers my wifi connection to G speeds as opposed to N. Can I make the airport express run on G only but still extend the extreme's wifi (running on N)?

Essentially I have 7 computers on a LAN that is not connected to the Internet - all computers are connecting wirelessly. I have one computer function as a server and it multicasts pings to the other 6 computers at a constant rate (e.g. sends a packet every 2 seconds).I noticed some odd behavior - 4 computers received the packets in about the right time intervals (every 2 seconds), but 2 would get packets at intervals of roughly .92 seconds and 1.12 seconds consistently. I realized that these 2 computers were running on battery and not plugged in. Plugging in all computers got all the computers receiving packets at the same time.

What I want to know are the specifics of running an ethernet cable from my XBOX 360 to the Airport EXPRESS and using that as my internet hook up to get on Xbox Live.
I am farily new to macs in general and am confused about one thing. In windows, you can always update the browser regardless of your windows version. OS X 10.2.8 is not all that old but I cannot update safari to 2.0.4 like in 10.4.7. Is support for 10.2.8 discontinued? Am I forced to use firefox if I want an up to date browser? BTW, this is on an old Beige G3 so 10.2.8 is the highest OS.

I'm trying to install 10.7 Lion on my wife's MBP. In the process of doing that, the Lion installer says her hardrive is not "journaled" and that I need to "enable journaling". The recommendation for that is to boot off an install CD and enable it via Disk Doctor. Seems easy enough.Â
Unfortunately, she can't find the 10.6 Snow Leopard CD. I have an old 10.5 Leopard disc that I put in and tried to boot from while holding the C key. The disc spins and spins, but I only see a gray screen.Â
I also tried holding "shift" and selecting the disc as my start up volume. Same thing; gray screen.Â
My questions are:Â
1: Is it even possible to boot off the 10.5 disc when running 10.6?
2: If not, is there anything else I can do to boot off an external volumeÂ

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?
I installed AirPort 5.6 as well as 6.0 sometime back on Lion . Now the latest version of 5.6.1 will not install to update 5.6 to 5.6.1. Did anyonwe else try to do this?

I run Logic Pro 9 and Ableton 8 music programs on my computer quite often and that's where i notice significant lag. I understand those are heavy programs, but even when Safari is open and I try to open Finder there is lag time before the window actually opens. When I restart my computer, it runs a little better, but as soon as I begin to open other programs, the lag begins and will continue even after I close them.
I upgraded from Snow Leopard and never had any issues- it ran extremely smooth under the most stressful conditions with all the current memory and hard drive space, cpu, etc. I

I own a MacMini Server in my home network with Lion Server installed. I configured the DNS Service with a primary zone, providing nameserver (MacMini) etc. Server Admin tool create also a reverse zone 0.0.0.10-in.addr.arpa (my IP Range is 10.0.0.I own also an Airport Extreme Base Station (4th Gen) acting as DSL Modem, DHCP and NAT and creating 2 Wireless networks (private and public network) and it's correctly set up for internet access... In AEBS settings the DNS Servers are 10.0.0.3 (MacMini) and 8.8.8.8...With these settings everyting works fine but all the devices (other Macs, windows PCs, etc.) cannot ping each other... The only machine they can ping is obviusly the MacMini because in the DNS settings i punt manually a machine (A) record...
My question is: is possible to setup Lion Server to dinamically update DNS records using AEBS DHCP entries and reservations ? If possibile i don't want to add all the record manually and I don't want use the AEBS only as an access point...

Anyone else notice that their CPU temperature rose a bit after the EFI update? I had no freezes whatsoever and it ran pretty cool throughout my usage pattern.
Now after the EFI update my CPU temperature is a bit higher at around 70C-77C with the fan staying mostly at around 2800RPM as to the 2200RPM before the EFI update.My CPU temperatures were at around 66C-70C before the EFI update.
I ran an update today for Java and I'm now having trouble getting chat rooms to run. I run three or four chat rooms at a time and now I can only get one to run. When I log out I have to quit Safari and then log back in to the chat room. I've never had a problem like this before so I have no idea where to start. Although I did reinstall the latest update with no success and also repaired permissions.

I clicked Cancel on the box and it popped up again 2-3 times before finally going away. Can Software Update run in the background without any user intervention now? Could it be some kind of new Mac malware?
