OS X Mavericks :: SecurityAgent Hangs When Authorizing Changes To Certificate Trust Settings
Jun 1, 2014
I frequently encounter this totally blocking problem when attempting to authorize changes to Certificate Trust Settings.
This occurs when A dialog is presented when app such as Mail encounters a certificate whose identity is unknown. You choose to show details and select the option to "Always trust (server) when connecting to…"Click ConnectA System authorization dialog appears and immediately hangsin Activity Monitor, "SecurityAgent" is shown as not responding.
At this point there is no legitimate way to shut down or restart the Mac other than forcing a power down, since (presumably) SecurityAgent is involved in the normal shutdown process.
After restarting, when the process happens again, I am able to successfully authorize the certificate. It only occurs if the computer has been up and running for a while (hours? days?)

I am struggling with tags. I can watch the activity monitor on the server as we tag and see the finder spike thru the roof (then beach ball for two minutes!) even when tagging just 40 files. If I tag just one file I am getting the finder up to almost 50% activity.Interestingly, I also have someone tagging files over the network using the same iCloud account and I'm seeing huge activity spikes in icbaccountsd and sometimes quicklookd. I don't know if they are related but I can say that the networked machine also experiences difficulties in the same way.The files are on (various) external RAID enclosures that are connected via eSATA or SAS.
It seems only to affect the Finder because any apps running (even Premiere CC 2014 which is accessing projects and footage on those RAIDs over the network) seem to be fine. Even as the Finder goes thru the roof and then crashes. The problem also persists when tagging files on the internal hard drive. I just selected 3000 jpegs, tagged them all with ONE original tag and... BOOM Finder (Not Responding) 198% CPU and beach ball for two minutes. Then the finder goes back to being responsive.
I understand that this is NOT the norm and I'm not seeing many similar complaints. We have already forced the server to re-build the spotlight index. Next I am going to move the RAID to another computer and will update with results.I really hope that Apple takes tags all the way. Currently the foundation is there but searching is lame and tagging a lot of files is slow even without the issues above. Too much clicking...

I just bought a used iBook G4 1.33GHz on eBay from a seller that offers a 30 day return policy. It came today and upon boot i don't get the classic "boot sound," but instead a somewhat garbled burping-like sound.
However, the iBook seems to function fine otherwise. It's a bit slow and "hesitant" running Leopard, but it's running the stock 512MB of memory so I'd expect that from it until I stick a 1GB stick in there. Also, the regular speakers work fine once the computer is booted up, so I'm guessing the "boot sound" plays on something analogous to a PC Speaker in a non-Mac PC.
The casing looks good and no defects on the screen, the bottom does get pretty hot, but I think that's usual behavior from a G4 iBook, right?
So, what does everyone think? I'm hesitant to make a stink over the stupid "boot sound" speaker, particularly since it might be easy enough to replace (and it's supposed to still be under AppleCare anyway, so it may just be a trip to the local Apple store to get a fix anyway.

I downloaded the Pollux app ([URL]) and loved it. It worked really well during the trial and I want to buy it. However, I'm very paranoid using my credit card over the internet. Have any of you purchased this app and are the developers trustworthy?

I have OS 10.9.4, with Safari 7.0.6. Most of the time I cannot load any pages with Safari, even though my IMac can. The two machines have exactly the same software, and are connected to the same Comcast wireless. The problem briefly goes away. But after loading only a few web pages, the problem returns. The browser begins to load a page, and then hangs. When a page does load, it is much slower than on the desktop.

I can't ssh to my mac anymore, it returns "Permission denied (publickey, password, keyboard-interactive)" although I'm sure I'm entering the right password. I tried to ssh locally too (ssh myusername@localhost), same result. It used to work and I don't remember fiddling with anything close to that. Maybe a system update? Running 10.5.8.

Friend has 13" MBP mid 2010. We upgraded to Mavericks about six weeks ago. Then, about a month ago, any operation involving the Finder hangs, and I get a beach ball that lasts at least several minutes. Other applications, like MS Office and browsers, are unaffected unless we try to open, save, or close a document. Attempting to open any folder causes the same problem.
I replaced his old hard drive with a new SSD and did a restore from TM, and the problem came back after a few days. Otherwise the machine works fine. Disk Utility reads fine.
I created a new account as a test, and did not have the same problem. So, I'm convinced it is something to do with his account, or with some app that affects his account. It doesnt' seem to be a system problem because no one else in his SOHO is experiencing it. And, because the second account works, I don't think it is a hardware problem like a bad cable (I've read lots about this).
I'm going to try to strip down the machine and delete a bunch of stuff like Dropbox, and I'll recreate his NAS access to see if that works.
His keychain won't remember one of two NAS passwords (I mount a TM volume and a production share on boot). TM mounts automatically but the production mount asks for his password every time. I've tried Keychain first aid.

I am using 3.0.10 with Leopard 10.5.7. The way the older versions of Firefox worked was if you saved a password to the keychain and then return to the webesite at some future time, it would automatically display the user ID and PW in the login fields of the site.
But now I find you have to type the first character of the user ID in order for it to display the rest of it. I find that a pain in the neck. Can anyone tell me how to get it to work the old way? Either with terminal or an add-on I can trust? If I am not mistaken, there is a way to enter an area in FF that displays a long list of unix defaults that you can change.

We had a old macbook and it recently died so we went out and bought a new macbook pro. I have an iphone and I want to put some music on my phone. I set it up for to manually put music and vidoes onto the phone. It says my phone is hooked to another itunes account and for me to do this it would have to erase everything on my phone right now. I really don't want to do this. Is there a way around this?

I have been using the downloadable trial version of iWork and have just bought a copy. Am I right in thinking that if you buy a disc rather than a serial number you have to install it and there is no serial number to input on the box? If this is the case do I need to uninstall the trial version before installing the disc copy?

I am aware that when you purchase a new Mac you have to deauthorise your old mac and authorise your new one to play your iTunes library. When you can't do this Apple allow you to do this up to a maximum of 5 times. My question is that I suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure on my last two macs and therefore could not deauthorise those macs. I have now reached the maximum five times you can authorise your mac but find this unfair as at least two of those had to be used as a result of hardware failure. If my current mac fails I think I lose my library altogether as although it's backed up I can't authorise the music on any new macs. Am I right about this and is there any way I could get apple to take the hardware failures into consideration? I've paid for all of my content so why can't I continue to use it?

I am having trouble authorising my Mac Air to my Itunes account. I found a discussion explaining how to go go into 'Terminal', then adding a command. I have followed all those appropriate steps and when I try to enter my 'Password' when asked, my keyboard doesn't work. No key press can be activated at all when trying to enter my password in 'Terminal. And I am in the 'Administrator' user.

I need to have 2 copies of Mozilla Firefox with abolutely separate settings on my iMac.
On my previous PC I had 2 portable copies of FIrefox from portableapps.com Can something like that be performed on iMac?
Why: sometimes I need to use a US proxy setiings in brouser (to purchase @ US stores that block foreign IPs). On the other hand I have my main everyday Firefox set up for my everyday needs. Switching settings is quite annoying. I just had a separate copy of FF on my PC for use with US proxe settings before i moved to iMac.

We have a domain that we use for email (let's call it example.com). The domain is managed through Go Daddy. I spoke with Go Daddy tech support about how to add a new Mac Calendar account that is tied to example.com, so that Calendar invites come from email@example.com. She pointed me to the DNS CNAME records, and said this is where I would add a CNAME record for the Calendar account, however she didn't know what the record should be or how to set it up (i.e., "but this is where you would add the info.") She indicated that I should just "Google it", which I did.
I specifically creating a new "CNAME (Alias)" DNS record. When I log into Go Daddy's "Domain Details" portal, and then select the "DNS Zone File" tab, I can see all of the Zone Files (i.e., A(Host), AAAA(iPV6 Host), CNAME(Alias), etc). Looking at the CNAME records, I can see that there are three CNAME records (reporting as Host, Points To and TTL).
1. email, email.secureserver.net, 1 hour
2. ftp, @, 1 hour
3. www, @, 1 hour
The Go Daddy gal said that I needed to add a new CNAME record for calendar that points to the correct ____. When I add a new calendar DNS record, what should the "Host" and "Points To" fields be (TTL is just the time to live, so I'll just leave that as 1 hour)?
Also, when I then go into Mac's Calendar and add an account, will I just use my email@example.com and password to create the account, or is that another trick?

I have to work with two different Wi-Fi (at home and office) one of which uses DHCP and other requires me to manually enter IP address. Right now I have to keep on changing Wi-Fi settings (putting IP addresses when at office and setting to DHCP at home) whenever I go from home to office and then do the reverse when I go from office to home. Can I automate that so I don't have to repeatedly fiddle with settings?

I want to disable the syncing of settings for my mail accounts across devices. It is causing issues.
Right now when I set up or modify a mail account on my iMac it changes the settings on my Macbook. This isn't an iCloud account. They are my email accounts with 3rd part service providers.
1) How can I turn the sync function off?
2) The issue it cause is that incoming ports get changed on one of the machines without me changing anything. Then my emails stop coming in on one of the machines.

I change my Energy Saver settings (Mavericks), but the changes do not remain. Once the display goes to sleep, the settings change back to other values (which aren't the same as the default settings). This happens even though I have the settings locked. Could some other utility be changing the settings? My Macbook Pro was imaged through my work - might they have set something up that can revert settings?
I've already tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file and restarting - that didn't solve the problem.
