View 4 RepliesOk, i know the best protection for the Mac is just 'common sense', but what if you teacher wife downloads files from any random site she can find? Add to that it seems we have been the victim of credit card fraud (not sure how, not necessarily via the Mac either).
Anyway, i want to do a scan for viruses and spyware. Anyone know a good option for this? Doesn't have to be free although that would be nice.
Running Version 10.9.3 on a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz Intel Core i5
Issue is Safari is allowing pop ups when searching in google and barnes and noble. I was able to manually delete any files affecting firefox, which appears to be no longer infected.
The items listed below is what a virus scan found and could not be removed or quarantined. Most items could not be found thru finder or the go to folder feature. one item i did find and could not delete manually (notated below).
Threat: Adware.MAC.OSX.VSearch.B

My friend's MBP was doing this recently, and asked me if I had a solution - to which I did not, and now my MBA is doing this:
On the left side of my dock, I have all the applications I frequently use, Finder, Browser, Mail, etc etc. And on the right side of my dock, ive put a few folders for my documents, applications, and downloaded items, for quick access to them.
My other applications, when openned from the Applications folder on the right side of the dock, would usually pop a little icon down on the left side of the dock, indicating that particular application was currently running, and where you could click on it - view files currently openned, that sort of thing. And now - That no longer happens? When the app is openned, it no longer puts an icon on the left side. Theres no presence that the app is currenly running. If i have several apps running at once maximized, I can no longer Tab between them back and forth, or click between them on the dock. And when I minimize the app It no longer receides into its icon on the left (because the icon doesnt appear there anymore), but now minimizes to the right hand side of the dock.
I don't know what has changed, or happenned, and I doubt it's something I did - because I rarely mess around with the settings on this thing. It operates perfectly otherwise.

I was just wondering how to properly delete stuff such as widget or programs I've downloaded to try and didn't like. I have been just dragging and dropping into the trash, but I fear that I may be leaving other files behind by mistake.

The trackpad settings in system preferences seem fine, I didn't spill any liquid on it and didn't let it fall.

Is it possible for me to add some songs to it from my iTunes without erasing the apps that he currenly has on it? Or will adding the songs wipe the content of the device off.

I just joined mac rumors because I'm tired of windows and I'm thinking of buying a mac. My first question is any idea why apple doesn't offer a biometric scanner?
Second question. Has apple ever offered financing for their products, and I don't mean That lousy Juniper card. I was thinking of getting a MBP,MAC and an I MAC and that is a lot of money , just wish Apple had financing like Dell or the other computer companies.
I found an old scanner in my house and I wanted to connect it to my sisters Macbook. I've connected the power cord to the mains and the USB cable into the Macbook, the light is on on the scanner but I don't know what to do next. The scanner is a few years old so I don't know if it needs an install CD.

Fujitsu does not have a driver for this scanner so I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Fujitsu suggested asking Apple or trying ScanTango. I recently got a Macbook. I love it so far, I've had it for less than a week. I had been using it at my mom's (she uses on of those Timemachine things. They double as a wireless router right?)Anyways that was working great. Now I'm at my dad's where the computers (PCs) have had histories of viruses, worms, and other bad stuff; this is mainly cause my dad and step family are idiots about downloads and aren't very responsible.
Anyways, I was just browsing the internet today - no weird sites that would be fairly dangerous - and a message popped up saying that I could be infected! I was feeling safe just the other day learning that Macs are very safe from computer viruses and stuff. A windows message popped up to notify me (which is really strange because I had only installed Windows office on this Macbook). But I'm thinking that its a fake message and instead some sort of trojan horse. Could it have come through the wireless network to reach this Mac? I dunno what happened, but I'm scared because this Mac is new and I would really like it to not screw up.
But if it does, I got this Mac through my university, so I have support and a warranty, so I could get this replaced if it got really bad right?
