MacBook Pro :: Messages Window Stays White / Doesn't Open
Dec 2, 2014
I never used Messages on my Mac but after I started using handoff now I wanted to use it.So after I opened my Messages app on my mac and typed in my ID Password the window opened but just stayed white.I receive the messages people write me, but only iMessage messages, no sms messages, but everytime I want to reply the window stays white. Also I can't open the preferences it's like the app is not opening completely? Why that happens?Â
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
When I open Safari i doesn't load my homepage, it just stays white. And also the webprocess is running at a 100%. I uninstalled the 1Password exstension and it didn't help. Safari works fine in the guest account.
My messages app doesn't work when I open the icon. It has to be force to quit.messages_dont_open messages_service messages_broke messages_ accounts messages_not_responding messages_crashing messages_application
I have set safari 5.0 to open when i turn my mac on which it does (kind of). The bar at the top says Safari but to get the main window open i have to go to File>New Window.
I just reformatted my system and installed all software again. My config is: Lion 10.7.3, Safari 5.1.5.
In the past, when I opened Safari, even a single window opened in a Tab, now when I open just one window (i.e. only one Tab), it doesnt open in a Tab, , only when I do a Command + T to add another Tab, does the first window convert into a Tab. The resulting problem is that if I want to drag one window to another (where the first one has only one Tab), I cant do that, since it doesnt appear as a Tab, which means there is nothing to select and drag to another window. I have a macbook air running OSX Lion 10.7.3. I have installed Messages beta and am using my Apple ID. I also use this apple ID (as well as my mobile number) for iMessages on my iPhone. The app just stays in offline mode, I cannot get it to change to available or any other status. I am therefore unable to send or receive any iMessages on my Mac. I have to uninstall and reinstall the app several times. The status shows as offline in both the menu bar status and the preferences status. All other online service are working.
I dropped my Macbook while in the hospital yesterday recouping from spinal surgery now I am really pissed! So when I power it on I get a grey screen with the apple logo and the hard drive making uncommon noises. It never makes it to the password screen, what can I do? Help me please as having this terribly bad back is one thing but losing my Macbook too with all my Logic music etc is really decimating. Thanks guys....
My step mom has an iMac. The first gen intel one and the other day out of nowhere there was a white screen with a folder on it and now when you go to start up the iMac the screen just stays white.. What would be the cause of this and what should I do to fix it .. thank you
My Mac mini starts with a white screen but stays on the apple logo and the small circle as if it is booting. I turn it off manually and switches it back again after a while. This time no apple logo appears, but got 2 symbols popping up and blinking as shown in the pictures attached.
When I hit the power button it gets stuck in the Apple. Being that I have an older powerbook g4 I would need a way to get to the first aid application for a command prompt or an original 10.4 disk which I don't have.
My 2006(ish) Intel core 2duo 2.16 mhz 20" imac wont start up, it only stays at the loading screen, how can I fix this? I have tried:
• safe mode reboot
• restart using p, r , command and option (resetting the pram)
• restart using the original Mac OS 10.4 disc
• restart so I get the image of the HD but I can't click on it to continue and restart again!    • single user mode (CMD+s keys at bootup, and then /sbin/fsck -fy)Â
It just doesn't do anything else than display the grey screen, the apple and the spinning wheel (sometime, I do get a scrolling bar also!). I managed to perform a hardware test from the Mac OS disc and there seems to be no hardware problem. Nothing works. It stays stuck on the grey screen, with the apple and the wheel turning endlessly.Â
Tried to restart didn't work. Light is on, but nothing makes noise or anyhting. Been charging it for hours so it has power. Tested the chord on my ther computer and it worked
I've heard that Macbook Pro's have this issue, but it seems like my white Macbook is exhibiting this sometimes. It's not a lot but I've encountered it about 3-5 times now. When I just close the lid, the little white light at the front should glow and unglow. It seems like the light stayed lit so when I open the lid the screen wouldn't turn on and there is no response and I would be forced to cold boot. My Macbook is up to date, with no problem in diagnostic.
My friend's MacBook Air crashed. It blacked out, and turned off. Now, when he presses the power button, he gets a beep, and that's it. the white LED light also doesn't flash. It's a short, soft beep.
So this morning I woke up and went to press the power button of my Macbook, but nothing happened. I noticed that there is no white IR light and the fan doesn't respond. I checked the battery, it was at full. The power cable was also green when i plugged it into the Macbook. However, it still wouldn't turn on.
Just a general comment, I use the Macbook as a printer server and to browse the internet, so nothing intensive is forced onto the Macbook. So then I tried resetting the SMU, didn't work. I tried turning it on with only battery , and then with only power source, both didn't work either.I have never spilled anything on this macbook, never dropped it, smashed it, or abused it in any way. However, it is 2 years old and I never bought Applecare (Usually, if something is defective, it will show within the first 30 days). I assume it's a logic board failure, and it's going to cost around 700 to fix (which i'd rather just get a new macbook).
I was wondering if anybody know of a reason why the logic board broke, or if there is any remedies that i haven't tried yet? Also, I'm thinking of pawning it off on ebay and then save up and wait for the Macbook Pro refresh. Does anyone have an estimate on how much I can get for a broken Macbook (screen is fine, 4gb of ram (i might replace it w/ 2gb instead) 250 gb HD (might replace with 80gb HD instead), 2.0 ghz c2d (prbly useless cuz the logic board is fried)
My track pad doesn't work right, it is very jumpy moves even with out me using it.acts like there is two fingers on it.But if i hook up a cheap mouse and turn the tracpad off it works fine.Sometime the cruser won't even move, or right click and bring up the little short cut window.
There's some known documented issues concerning the Nvidia graphics chip in the particular model of macbook pro I have.
Basically when turning on the machine, the screen is filled with black & white horizontal strips like a piano keyboard, but thats it - it doesn't actually boot up fully at all, you cannot hear the hard drive running !
Would the hard drive have anything to do with this ?
I explained this to apple telephone support & they informed of the article

& stated that the symptoms were linked.
On taking the mac to an apple store they ran a special 'firmware' boot up 'test' using an instore ipod to determine if it was a faulty Nvidia chip, so as to prove to Nvidia, the company funding the repairs whether it is that to blame.
Because the machine didn't even boot up & complete the 'test' they couldn't say whether it was the graphics chip - so 'no free repair' under extended warranty & the final answer was as usual ' buy a new logic board' that will cure it !
Since upgrading to Lion, whenever I open a message with the same header and sender as a previous one, it puts them all together in a single window. How can I get Mail to only show the latest in the window when I select the message? I receive daily alerts from various services, and I don't want to scroll through them to just see the one message.
Ever since I updated to Yosemite I've noticed a strange behavior with the Messages window. If the Messages window is partially obscured behind another window and I click in the Messages window title bar area, the window comes to the front but it's in some sort of "move pending" mode. The next location I click is where the window is moved to. Is this a new "feature" of Yosemite? I may have turned on some preference without realizing it. Seems to only do it with the Messages window.
My Macbook doesn't turn on, it just show a white screen and after a while a big question mark blinks but nothing else, cannot click the question mark, cannot do anything. Also it makes a funny noise.
How can I view mail messages in a smaller window? when I open a message it takes up the whole screen of the iMac. It is also very small writing. I tried clicking on the green button. This works on my mac book pro but not on my iMac. When I try zoom to make the text bigger it does not wrap around.
Many websites, if not all the ones I frequent no longer load. Instead I'm left with a white page that loads instantly whether I click on via Google search results or direct input. But if I use Bootcamp into Windows 8.1 the internet works fine, which means something has gone wrong on the OS X side of things. I've tried using different browsers to no avail.Â
For example:
I wanted to Google "oru kayak reviews" and Google gave me all the usual results.
However, once I click on a link among the Google search results all I get is a white page and a url that reads: [URL] ...
Now if you click it you might get the resulting page, but for me its a white page.Â
Same thing applies if I were to type in directly to the address bar, like "theverge.com" for example all I get is a white page.
But for websites associated with Google or Apple for example, like YouTube and the Apple Forums here, they load just fine.Â
On my mom's Macbook Air and everyone's iPhones the internet appears to work just fine as well.Â
Cloned unformatted HD in power mac g4 with macbook HD, on start up grey window with apple logo then "you must restart window" with white text " CPU 0 caller.... we are hanging....appears behind, tried command options P R but wnt let me type, tried using macbook disk but just loads up with the restart window and text and also tried removing the ram and starting up with one an a time but all start up with same "restart" screen.

Mail [snow leop] stops displaying messages in viewer window until I open a new viewer window. That is the message text in the right window section does not show. I have looked for an item in Preferences and find nothing relating to this. This is an issue that occurs more often now. What need I do?
