White screen stays on with spiral continuing but does not go to desktop screen after turning computer on.

Why is my Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8 IMac screen all white when I turn it on? There is no spiral and no Apple logo and the desktop does not appear. The screen is just white. Â
Prior to this, we had a wind storm in our area with some power glitches today. After one of them, the dock items disappeared and just the wallpaper was there. The colored spinner began going around when I clicked on the mouse but nothing was happening.  I unplugged it to try to reset it, but now the screen comes up all white, there's no apple logo that appears at start up and that's it. Now what should I do?

My step mom has an iMac. The first gen intel one and the other day out of nowhere there was a white screen with a folder on it and now when you go to start up the iMac the screen just stays white.. What would be the cause of this and what should I do to fix it .. thank you

I turn it off manually and switches it back again after a while. This time no apple logo appears, but got 2 symbols popping up and blinking as shown in the pictures attached.

I dropped my Macbook while in the hospital yesterday recouping from spinal surgery now I am really pissed! So when I power it on I get a grey screen with the apple logo and the hard drive making uncommon noises. It never makes it to the password screen, what can I do? Help me please as having this terribly bad back is one thing but losing my Macbook too with all my Logic music etc is really decimating. Thanks guys....

I have a 2009 2.53ghz 8gb 500gb 7200 macbook pro, running latest version of snow lep 10.6.4. It's been running fine since I got it last august, now today I started it and I get the blue screen that seems to refresh itself with a slight flicker every 10 seconds with a new blue screen with the spiraling activity dots. I tried booting from a disc, and it nothing changed. I tried booting in safe mode and it the bar would fill up, then it goes right back to bluescreen. I don't have a screwdriver on me, so I can't take the battery out.

I have version 10.7.4 OSX Lion, all updates have been downloaded. I have resorted to leaving it on. I do not want to hard shutdown because this could damage the system, my old iMac broke after the hard drive was damaged with the same style of issue.

I have a HITACHI touro desk 3TB external hard dive connected to my iMac OS X version 10.6.8 Every time i start up the system it stays on a grey screen until I unplug the usb of the external hard drive then the system boots up normally. I have tried connecting different usb cables, plug in to different usb ports, and nothing works. I have other external hard drives and they don't give me any problems. is a pain plugging and unplugging the usb cable. Â

When I open Safari i doesn't load my homepage, it just stays white. And also the webprocess is running at a 100%. I uninstalled the 1Password exstension and it didn't help. Safari works fine in the guest account.

I never used Messages on my Mac but after I started using handoff now I wanted to use it.So after I opened my Messages app on my mac and typed in my ID Password the window opened but just stayed white.I receive the messages people write me, but only iMessage messages, no sms messages, but everytime I want to reply the window stays white.Also I can't open the preferences it's like the app is not opening completely? Whenever I put a DVD+RW in and eject it, the icon stays on the desktop and in the finder. I have to manually delete it. Why is it doing this? I tried repairing permissions and repairing disk, but it didn't help. It happens both on my new Aluminum macbook and my older whitebook.

The second time I did this it just sits with a white screen and give three loud beeps over and over. Is there a fix for this? Is it my ram? I'm at a loss.

Anyway, when i try to reinstall, i put the retail leopard disc in, pressed install mac osx, and pressed restart. Then it will just be stuck in the white screen forever! i tried pressing the option key, but it only shows Macinsosh HD and not the leopard disc. taking it back to apple store is not an option for me, the warranty expired just months ago.

Anyone seen anything like this before. I can actually see part of it right on the white of the page I am typing in this thread.
When I go to front row, all my video content plays sound, but the picture is just a pure white screen (shows the slider to move chapters, etc., but the screen is just white).
Any ideas for solutions? I did google searches, etc., to no avail. I have a MP (not early 08), which I upgraded the graphics card to a 2600XT, and it's running Leopard.
Im really sorry if this is a silly question. I was playing football manager, then had to dash off somewhere for 15 mins, by the time i got back the screen was black, i just assumed it was on standby, i pressed space bar to carry on playing and NOTHING happened.. i pressed the on|off button and nothing happened.. i pressed and held the button to switch it off.. nothing happened..
It is still running now, but nothing is activating it, i pressed the caps lock button to see if the keyboard was operating and it didnt light up as normal.Im just letting the battery drain on it to see if it does anything on the reboot.. i dont know what else to do.. please advise!!!I only purchased it on Fri.. so its 2 days old i really hope it isnt broken already, there must be a simple answer for this? I have an MBP about 2 yrs. old. This morning when booting up, the computer made the chime sound and appeared to turn on but the screen stayed completely dark. I tilted it around and tried to see if the backlight was just dead, but there appears to be absolutely nothing on the screen. Furthermore, the little light that normally pulses while the computer is sleeping is on, though not pulsing, anyone know what's going on?
View 4 Replies View RelatedLoaded pics up for the 1st time from my 7d into Aperture 1.5 and left my computer on, woke up and it wouldn't come out of sleep. I did a hard shutdown holding down the power button and the screen just stays black and I never hear the chime, light on power button is solid white. Since I'm on vacation with my wife and infant daughter I don't have time to mess around troubleshooting but see it may be a failed logic board? Do they just fail randomly or what? My aunt that I'm staying with turned off a surge protector a light was plugged into, I was using her power charger for her MacBook Pro and only this morning found out it was plugged directly into the outlet below the surge protector was on that she flipped off.
Could that have created a surge on the other plug or something? She does this all the time with her MacBook Pro plugged in and its never created a problem, I'm writing this post from her computer right now! (Only brought the Mac out because my iPad wouldn't load the photos for some reason, don't know if it has something to do with the HD video or because I also had photos from my Canon 50d on there or if that has something to do with my Mac's problem?) I've attempted an SMC restart and it does the same thing? I'm now extremely stressed thinking I may have lost all my pics that I haven't backed up in months of my infant daughter. When I start it up I hear an initial sound of a hardrive spin or fan but then its basically silent.

This 5 year old iMac makes the seek optical drive sound when switched on, but does not chime, but I can hear the hard drive going afterwards.
The screen just stays black, not a flicker.
The problem is that it is located in a small pretty isolated town in NE Brazil, I will be going back out there later in the summer so if anyone has any helpful ideas it would be most welcome. Fortunately we have a full CCC clone of the hard drive and a working MBP so we haven't lost anything, but it would be very good to have it working again.
Does it have a socket for an external monitor, I really cannot remember, as I have not seen it since November, I know the old round iMacs had one.
The nearest Mac store is probably in Rio or Sao Paulo which are a good day travelling by car and plane so there is no chance of getting it there.
