MacBook Air :: Dent On The Bottom Left Corner - Replacement Part?

Nov 30, 2008

Some weeks ago I dropped my MacBook Air (well, actually I couldnt do anything, my bag was broken so it dropped) and got quite a noticeable dent in the bottom left corner on the screen (outside, you can see the dent while closed). I tried to live with it but with such an expensive machine I can barely do that. So I tried to find a replacement part, the display housing. But - I cant. I can find replacement LCD displays, replacement housings fr MacBooks, for MacBook Pros - but NOTHING like that for the Air. Seems like this is Murphys law, eh? This really sucks.

MacBook Pro :: 15 Inch Retina - Horizontal Lines In The Middle And Bottom Of Screen

Dec 6, 2014

I have a 2 month old rMBP Mid 2014 and i am experiencing horizontal lines in the middle and bottom of the screen. For example, If i was browsing a site and then close the window you can still see parts of the website in the middle of the screen. I took the laptop in for the technicians to have a look and they a blaming it on the software, claiming that Gfxcardstatus is causing the problem. The problem still persists even with gfxcardstatus turned off. Does Gfxcardstatus do this? Is it the Lcd or gpu failure? Take a look at the photos ....

MacBook Pro :: How Easily Do Unibody Gets Dent / Scratch

Apr 24, 2010

Now for those of you who used mbp for a while, how easily do the aluminum unibody dent/scratch? it seems every single used mbp on ebay i see had some sort of dent on it. All of the mbp casings look bad, including the see thru one, they defeat the purpose of having a slick unibody mbp. The only option is those invisible films that stick onto the mbp, but they need water to install. None of them seems like good options. Anyway I am thinking of just getting a sleeve and leave the mbp naked. Is that a good idea?

MacBook Air :: Battery And Noise Comparison Between 11 Inch And 13 Inch?

Nov 16, 2010

Battery

I had a 11 inch air 1.4GHz/4GB/128GB for two weeks. I usually set the brightness to 75% and for consistent web browsing (no heavy flash) I can get about 5h15min battery life. I noticed someone here claiming 8+ hours battery on 13 inch so I decided to give it a shot.

I got a new 13 air with 1.86GHz/4GB/128GB yesterday and start to run on battery immediately. I was disappointed. The brightness was also set to 75% and I start to count the time from 25% while browsing MacRumors.com. And it only took 1h38m for battery descending from 25% to 0%. Again, pure web browsing and no heavy flash.

So here is my conclusion: On 75% brightness, 11 inch air's battery performs beyond advertised 5 hours and 13 inch's battery performs fair and normally should give you around 6h30m~7h.

Noise

I don't have equipments for measuring the noise, but while copying the same 10GB files from external drive to the machine, the fan noise from 13 inch is much louder than 11 inch.

Now I like my 11 inch more in general, although I really hate the 1366 x 768 screen. I don't know if I should sell the 13 inch or 11inch...

[edit]:

On my 11 inch air: battery capacity 4664

On my 13 inch air: battery capacity 6634

[edit2]:

I will do another test to see how long exactly my 13 inch can last after a full charge

MacBook Pro :: New Water Sensors On Casing

Oct 15, 2008

The new MacBook and MacBook Pro don't just want to impress you with their fancy new fabrication techniques, unibody designs and bolstered performance: they want to make you more honest, at least when it comes to reporting water damage. According to the service manuals, the new line of MacBooks include submersion sensors, designed to indicate if the laptops have been exposed to excessive levels of moisture and/or dropped in your toilet.

Phones, including Apple's own, have been fitted with these little stickers for years, but they're a rarity in laptops. You might want to think twice before you forget to mention the "used as a prop in an elaborate college drinking game" part on your next Applecare claim. [URL]

MacBook :: Chipped Casing Near Screen?

Feb 6, 2012

Recently, the plastic casing around the screen of my Macbook OS X has chipped, and the piece has now been lost...

[URL]

Here is a rather blurred example of what I mean ^ About 5 months ago the plastic on my keyboard also chipped along the edge, and when taking it to apple, they said that it was just a design fault (this macbook is from 2009!) and they repaired it within 2 hours free of charge. I just wondered if it would be the same for the screen casing, as no other damage has happened technically. This just happened, it wasn't even an accident - I just opened up the lid and the little thing chipped off, no warning!

Macbook Pro Screen Is Separating From Casing

Jun 5, 2012

my 2009 macbook pro screen is signficantly seperated from the casing which is now starting to affect the laptops performance.Apple refuse to fix it as its older than 1 year and they say its been caused by me dropping it? Its never been dropped and lives in two cases! WHO DROPS A 2K LAPTOP WITHOUT REALISING?Apple genius was very rude when I took it to ask for some help, being a student I cant afford the repair quote they gave me. I don't see how a global company like apple just refuse to acknowledge how this is affecting not just a few isolated cases, but hundreds.According to the sale of goods act "If the retailer or manufacturer’s warranty has run out, the shop is often quick to say there is nothing they can do before attempting to sell you an extended warranty. This is misleading. If you buy something which should last 7 years but breaks down after a year and a day, you can still claim it was of poor quality in reference to the durability aspect."

MacBook Air :: Analyzing The Differences Between The 11-inch And 13-inch?

Oct 21, 2010

To those contemplating on picking up the 11-inch MacBook Air or the 13-inch MacBook Air, I thought it would be helpful to list the differences between the two.

Below is what I've compiled so far (in no particular order):

1) SD Card Slot is on the 13" MacBook Air, not present on the 11"

2) Higher clock speed configurations on the 13" (1.4 GHz/1.6 GHz vs. 1.86 GHz/2.13 GHz)

3) 6MB of shared L2 Cache on the 13" vs. the 3MB on the 11"

4) 1066 MHz frontside bus on the 13" vs. the 800 MHz on the 11"

5) Larger capacity battery and an extra 2 hours of battery life on the 13" (7 hour 50-watt-hour battery on the 13" vs. 5 hour 35-watt-hour battery on the 11")

6) Slightly larger trackpad and more room for your palms while typing (hey, it's true!)

7) 16:10 1440 x 900 13.3" Display vs. 16:9 1366 x 768 11.6" Display

8) The 13" model weighs in at 2.9 pounds while the 11" weighs in at 2.3 pounds. .5 pound weight difference

If you have anymore differences between the two models, post below and I will add them to the list!

OS X :: 32 Inch LCD TV HDMI Setup With 13 Inch Macbook

Oct 7, 2009

I am trying to use my HD Sansui 32 inch LCD TV as a monitor for my Macbook. I can't work out how to set it up properly. My macbook is running OS X 10.5.8. My TV supports 1920 * 1080 HDMI 60Htz NTSC and various other resolutions. I am using a mini DVI to DVI adapter and then a HDMI lead to the tv. Problem one is that when I switch the Macbook on and close the lid nothing comes up on the TV screen (meaning it is supposed to only driving one screen, the TV). If I do this with the VGA connection it will. Momentarily the apple symbol will come up and the little circle below it but then my TV says signal not supported.

If I have the Macbook lid open when I switch the computer on both screens will work and I can select 1080P, however it is very grainy and not pleasant to read text. I think it looks better using the VGA. I have heard of people getting nice crisp display with HDMI so I am wondering if I am missing something? Is there any other software that can be used to get better results? Which text smoothing settings should I use? Are there other settings? I am using it on my desk so I guess it is about 2 foot from me. I will post my display details in a minute but my computer details are the following:

2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SdRam

MacBook :: Casing Cracked On The Palmrest / Requires Repair?

Apr 26, 2009

I have a 2,1 White MacBook from 2007. Early last year, 2009, my casing cracked on the palmrest. I know this is an extremely common problem and the repairs are fully covered by Apple, regardless of warranty. My case also has a few of the hairline cracks near the exhaust vent and hinge.

I have yet to have these problems repaired. At first I just didn't feel like going to an Apple store. Now that the MacBook casing has changed to the unibody design, I wonder if the future repair will be affected for better or worse.

I have AppleCare for four years, until 2011.

Does anyone know how Apple is fixing these casing problems in 2010 now that the unibody MacBooks are out? I expect it is very likely that Apple has plenty of the old hardware on hand, but I would like to think I could get a very nice uMB upgrade for free, even if I need to wait longer to get it.

MacBook Pro :: Future Macbook Pro Casing Materials

Dec 11, 2010

Apple has touched on a few different outer materials for their Macbook Pros, Macbooks, Macbook Airs, etc over the years. We've had glossy white polycarbonate, matte black plastic, the current aluminum, etc. None of these materials have been without fault - cracking and discoloring polycarbonate, scratching and denting aluminum, etc. So, what is next for the various Macbook lines - specifically the Macbook Pro? What will lead to further durability and a more beautiful machine?

I was expecting Apple to extend the glossy coating on it's 5th Generation iPod nanos to the Macbook Pros during the last refresh- but that was obviously not the case. My opinion is to somehow strengthen the aluminum- perhaps through an alloy - and apply a gloss scratch resistant coating?

MacBook :: Casing On Sides Of White 06 Coming Off In Small Strips

Jan 13, 2010

I'm a happy Mac user and always have been. I recieved a 2006 13 in White MacBook for my birthday a couple of years ago, and it's been working really well. One thing I've noticed since about a half a year ago is the casing coming off. It will come off on small strips around the edges. What's causing this and how can I get it fixed? Someone told me that if you take it to the Mac store, you can have the casing fixed for free because it's a defect and that's why they moved to unibody models. Is this true? The same person also told me that they'll only fix it if it's on the side facing closest to you. If it's on the other sides with the ports and the cd player, they won't do anything about it/charge you to get it fixed?

MacBook Air :: Difference Between 11-inch And 13-inch?

May 9, 2012

I'm getting one for school and i'm going to have to carrying it aroound quite a bit, so the 11-inch seemed appeling at first, but then i noticed that there is a few pros to the 13-inch than the 11 inch: There's an SD card slot on the 13 inch, which i could care less about, the screen has higher resoulotion, which i don't really care about eiether, but the one difference was that the 13 inch has two hours more battery life, which kinda got me thinking towards the 13-inch. So what do you guys think, is it impossible to work on the 11.6 inch and should i go for the 13 inch, or should i go with the ultra-portability of the 11-inch?
