this morning i turned on my comp and everthing was fine, but then my son started to watch something on youtube and this blinking stripe appeared i thought it was the youtube image, when he closed it, it was my comp screen!! the sun hits directly on the back of the comp, and i've been told that it could damage the comp, could that be it? i have a mac os x 10.4.11.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2 month old rMBP Mid 2014 and i am experiencing horizontal lines in the middle and bottom of the screen. For example, If i was browsing a site and then close the window you can still see parts of the website in the middle of the screen. I took the laptop in for the technicians to have a look and they a blaming it on the software,claiming that Gfxcardstatus is causing the problem. The problem still persists even with gfxcardstatus turned off. Does Gfxcardstatus do this? Is it the Lcd or gpu failure? Take a look at the photos ....

I have an inch wide white stripe that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. This is on an Imac. The cursor disappears when going through it but pops out on the other side. It doesn't move but I can drag my window back and forth to view the part the stripe covers.
Any ideas or should I locate a local mac repair person?
All the screens I have seen have at least a stripe of bleeding on top and some screens have more bleeding on the bottom in addition to that!I just opened my machine today with week5 production and it has a very thin (thinner than others) stripe of bleeding on top and kind of two blobs on the bottom corners.As for the lines (for the curious ones) they are there but this is the best screen I have ever seen since it is way harder to notice them compared to the rest. It is a model 9C90.
Would I return it you might ask, well, I am kind of sick of waiting more for a MBA since this is my second machine since the release of revB so I am kind of 50-50 now on keeping it.BTW, I bought this from Amazon so I was wondering if any of your returned a MBA due to the lines/bleeding issue and got a full refund from them.
I bought my macbook in June of 2010. My bottom plate is heavily scratched in the middle. I touched it and found out that it was bulging out a bit. Is it possible to get my bottom plate replaced in anyway?

View 4 Replies View RelatedPulled my coveted 12" 1.5 ghz powerbook out of its bag and it's has an annoying little opaque stripe about 3/4" along the right side of the display. It changes color from yellow to green. When I pinch the lower side of my display together, it goes back to the blue background color, but still has a distortion to it.

I have just purchased my new Macbook Pro 15" 2.4 i5 with the glossy hi-res screen and low and behold I have a pixel that stays red in the middle of my screen!!! So disappointed with Apple So now I have the task of trying to get it replaced, I heard they don't replace them with only 1 dead pixel, but it is in the middle of my screen! I paid over $2000 and I believe that this is truly unacceptable.

Normally I'm not such a whiner, but $3000 is a lot of money for a laptop, and I think you should expect a 100% flawless product for this huge amount of money. What to do? I tried the online video fixer for more then 10 minutes... didn't work. Should I give it a try at Apple? Or is it a no go? The problem is, I bought it at an Apple reseller who had this MBA as showroom demo for a month. So even though for me the product is only 2 days old, i think for Apple it is one month old and that would imply that I lost all my warranty and refund rights already. What to do?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a mac mini intel and I was in the middle of working with my blogs, then there was an annoying spinning wheel of death, so normally, I would hold the power button for few button to restart and I did. then when the desktop was loading, everything was back to the "new" desktop with alot of stuffs missing, so I restarted it again using the apple menu, then the startup screen took so long and out of nowhere, it shutted down by itself. I tried to power it on again and again, unplugged the cords, still didn't work.

I just noticed today that when I turn the brightness all the way down, or when I go away from my computer and my screen turns black that there is a circle in the middle of my screen which I can still see what is going on in the background. Its not like its bright but you can still notice it.

Last week was spring break for me and I left my Macbook at home, didn't figure I would need it while on the beach. So when my macbook was at home it was completely off, not asleep, off and unplugged, didn't think it needed to be charged and wasting electricity. So when I get home, open it up, everything seemed fine, but then I passed a page on the web that was all black and noticed a funny shaped spot in the middle of the screen that doesn't display blacks correctly - it looks like a burn in but its an odd shape.
And its only on the blacks when its visible, I cant see it at all on any color. If you look at the pixels themselves upclose the middle is more grey and the outside is black. I tried running a burn in/stuck pixel thing for about an hour and it didn't help at all, so I am pretty curious as to what caused this. I got my macbook a few days b4 christmas so idk where that comes into replacing it or repairing it. I've started calling it a virus for fun that only likes to show up in the dark.
I had the bad discovery today,of an vertical and voilet line in the middle of my screen,running from top to bottom.
I don't really know what to do,but this line is really annoying while watching a movie.
Well I had finally received my MBP today and was really excited to finally have it. I turn it on and the first thing I notice is that dead pixel in the lower middle of the screen. Just one freaking pixel.......but I already called apple care and they have a new one shipping out and mine is at a fedex.
For the 15 minutes I did use it though I was happy haha, now the waiting game begins again...
Has anyone seen and solved the issue of receiving a white screen on reboot with a slashed circle? Prior to rebooting the computer was running V-E-R-Y slowly. I saved my work and rebooted only to receive this screen.

I was normally using my Mac, as usual, when it suddenly crashed. The screen froze up and this icon showed up in the middle...A few minute later, it was still there so I had to force restart my mac. But when it started again, the image of a flashing folder with a question mark appeared. I googled a bit what it could mean, and I quickly found it was something about directory corruption. I tried to open the disk utility as advised to check if the disk was damaged, however it said the disk was alright, and it didn't give me the option to repair it. Â So now I'm stuck in the disk utility, and my only options are:
- Use time machine (I didn't save my data using it so useless)
- Reinstall OS X (Deleting all my content - exactly what I want to avoid)
- Repair the Disk (Which I can't even do)Â
So my main question is, is there a way I can get back all my files/data before reinstalling OSX? Are there other ways to repair what is broken without resetting my whole comp? Is it even possible that your mac crashes at any moment, making you lose EVERYTHING for no reason? Â

Not sure exactly when it started but I noticed it about half an hour ago and have come straight online to 'troubleshoot' the problem. The is a grey smudge/shadow in the middle of my screen and I am unable to remove it by cleaning the screen or restarting my computer. I have seen similar issues posted with no resolve so I don't know if people discovered a fix or just gave in and took the computer into the Apple store. With no way to transport the computer safely into the city centre, I would like to avoid doing that if at all possible. Â

I put my PowerBook to sleep and left home with it about an hour ago. I just opened it and it woke up but the screen was black. I turned it off and back on. The white screen with the apple and progress wheel came on for a normal period of time, but then the screen went all white and there were several uneven horizontal lines across the middle and froze there. I forced a restart and the same thing happened but this time I got the semi transparent window that says need to restart. I did that and I got the same screen without the message.

I was gonna buy the AppleCare but didn't and now, there are huge chunks of dust smack in the middle of my screen. Any tips on what to do? I went to the Apple Store at the Mall of America and the Genius was a total dick, saying since it was past warranty, even though it's a manufacturing defect I have to pay to get it fixed. I live in Chicago so I didn't want it fixed there anyway, I wanted to see what they'd do.
I remember my gf has the white plastic one and when the plastic at the bottom was cracking they replaced it way after warranty since it was a known defect. Won't they do that for me too? I'm fully prepared to go in and raise total hell if necessary.
I just noticed that on a black background, my 17" i7 MacBook Pro has two areas in the lower middle area of the screen, where the backlight is too bright compared to the rest of the screen. It is very noticeable on a black background and grey.. Is anyone else having this problem?
Other things I noticed:
- there was dust on the plastic cover that you take off the case when you use it for the first time
- the aluminium enclosure was slightly dirty, could be rubbed off though..
- there are two minor 'impurities' in the aluminium (?!).. two tiny grey spots/blemishes basically
- there were a few minor scratches on the aluminium casing.
- the apple logo at the back glows in a much warmer (yellow-ish) colour than the previous generation mbp (?!)
- the screen seems not as bright as the previous generation
- the keyboard backlight seems not as bright as the previous generation
My macbook air has randomly developed an issue with its display. Occasionally, when t's already running, a grayish/white line runs vertically towards the middle of the screen. It's about an inch thick. The computer will still run as normal, you just can't see the part of the screen being covered by the line. When I restart my mac line goes away. It randomly comes back again and the process starts all over.

I'm a film composer in the middle of a deadline, and my G5 crashes won't boot again, only get grey screen with Apple and spinning logo.Boot from Applecare disk, run tech tool, hardware fine, disk is corrupted. Catalog B-tree stuff. Cannot re-build without destroying data.Of course I have a clone of my system drive and try to boot from that, but IT is corrupted too of course!Go to Apple Store (I have ProCare), then run diagnostics and find the same. Advice? Wipe the drive and start from scratch.I do just that. I own about 35 plug-in instruments for Logic 8, so it took two days. The same thing happens. Disk won't boot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to use some software to test the display. I found when the screen goes to completely dark with the backlight on, the bottom side of my screen is brighter than other parts.... have u guys met any problem like that, or is this some problem with my MBA?
Our eMac seems to be developing a green tint in the bottom right hand corner of its screen. I've done some quick searching online and it seems that a few people have suggested a cold boot so it runs the degaussing process on a startup.
I left the eMac off for about an hour, unplugged. It did the degauss once it was plugged back in and "seems" to have removed nearly all of the green tint.
There are a few threads on various forums when I search on Google about this issue but they have no conclusive reasons why this is happening.
Could my eMac be developing a fault at all? I'm not too sure if anything magnetic has been placed on our table near the eMac so this may be the reason.
