So I found this dent on my MB this morning and it is right above the disc slot and I was wondering if this could do any damage to my computer and if I could repair this dent.
View 4 RepliesFor no apparent reason, my external HD MyBook 500GB has decided to stop working. Everytime I plug it via firewire, an error message pops up - "The disk "my book" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible". Here lies my problem, I'd gladly reformat it, if it weren't for the fact I don't have anywhere to "back up my data" to! I've got a 1st gen Macbook pro with only 10G spare on the HD, the external HD has 300gb worth of irreplaceable material.

Here you have a solidaluminum body Now the question: is it possible to somehow at home to fix the problem?Something like sandpaper, but not to make things worse.

It's been a while since I've been to these forums but I've come across another issue.
I bought this refurbished Macbook from Apple on November 26, 2008 (model MB061LL/B).
Now for those of you who used mbp for a while, how easily do the aluminum unibody dent/scratch? it seems every single used mbp on ebay i see had some sort of dent on it. All of the mbp casings look bad, including the see thru one, they defeat the purpose of having a slick unibody mbp. The only option is those invisible films that stick onto the mbp, but they need water to install. None of them seems like good options. Anyway I am thinking of just getting a sleeve and leave the mbp naked. Is that a good idea?
View 21 Replies View RelatedSome weeks ago I dropped my MacBook Air (well, actually I couldn�t do anything, my bag was broken so it dropped) and got quite a noticeable dent in the bottom left corner on the screen (outside, you can see the dent while closed). I tried to live with it but with such an expensive machine I can barely do that. So I tried to find a replacement part, the display housing. But - I can�t. I can find replacement LCD displays, replacement housings f�r MacBooks, for MacBook Pros - but NOTHING like that for the Air. Seems like this is Murphys law, eh? This really sucks.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo i finally figured out what has been causing all of my kernel panics. Either the brackets or the notches that are holding the second ram stick in place have become faulty. The second ram stick permanently stays in the upright position, and if i do manage to get it parallel to everything, it can jump up at a moments notice if I do something with my computer. This is clearly a manufacturer's defect, but i dont have any warranty left. So i was wondering if any of you guys know where i can get a new ram slot since it doesnt seem to be like it is soldered to the logic board. I had 4gb, now im running on one 2gb stick, and basically the computer is nearly unusable in its current state.

I burned an ISO image file to a blank DVD and it ran fine on my desktop, but I when I put it in my MBP, it said my DVD is blank.
I put in a DVD movie I just bought, and when I insert it it just try's to run but eventually gets ejected.
I just got my macbook pro on monday and today when plugging in my keyboard and mouse into the 1st USB I notice it's not working. I plug them into the 2nd and it works fine.
Is this going to be a hardware issue? I'm sort of gutted, I thought I had a perfect one and now I find something isn't working as it should be.
Can anyone confirm that there is no SD slot on the 11.6 model?If that's the case, then it's not really a workable solution.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to put an SD Card slot into the RevC MBA?, I just read that an SD card can be used to boot the MBP in case the HDD Fails. I would think that Apple might be able to squeeze a SD Slot in there to make the MBA even better. Also, the Rev-D should have the SD-Card Slot and a standard 4GB RAM.

Why doesen't the 17inch MBP have an SD CARD Slot and 4 USB PORT'S? Can we look forward to seeing this in the next update?
Also I think the Baseline MBP (13inch) should have at least 3 USB Ports too! For the 15 inch It should have 4 also.
I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give up my expresscard slot for an SD card slot. If I could figure out something useful to do with it, that would persuade me. I don't do hard core photography yet, and if I did, I could always just USB the camera.Does anyone use the SD card slot for something other than photography? I figured maybe it could be used like a floppy drive to organize certain projects or files but those could always be backed up to CD/ DVD. Not to mention, if you store the files on your hard drive, time machine would back them up.
View 24 Replies View RelatedSo I read online that my PowerBook G4 that I've had since about 2004 may have the defective memory slot that caused Apple to introduce the "PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz) Memory Slot Repair Extension Program" in 2008. However, my serial number isn't within the program's parameters, and as I understand it, the program ended in 2008. It says it applies to serial numbers W8503xxxxxx through W8518xxxxxx; mine begins with W84.
Basically, I have a couple of questions before I a) shell out money for diagnostics and possible repairs or b) buy a new laptop: Is this a memory slot problem? My 15" PowerBook G4 (Model A1045; 1 GHz; 256 MB; 60G; Combo; BT) had been getting the beach ball for awhile, and was very slow operating and online. My sound card had been on the fritz. The internal speakers would sometimes not work, but the headphone jack would still work. So yesterday, the mouse froze while in Firefox, and after waiting awhile, I forced it to shut down. When it booted up again, I got a blank screen and three short beeps, followed by the LED light blinking periodically. All these symptoms seem to point to what Apple said was the memory slot problem [URL]
If this is a memory slot problem, what might the repairs involve and are there price estimates available? Is it better to just get another laptop? (I'm thankful I've had it for this long without any major problems, it's had a good life). If I do get another laptop, am I able to retrieve my information from my old laptop and transfer it to the new one? Is this an expensive procedure? Or is this laptop entirely kaput and my files forever trapped on there? What the recommendations out there (if I buy a new one instead doing repairs to the G4) for a laptop that will be used as my only computer (i.e., what's a good workhorse Mac)?
I am trying to set up an old macbook as a server and I am having a few problems getting the macbook to perform properly.
I know that one of the RAM slots are broken, should that effect the system if their is no RAM in that slot?
I get the occasional read/write error suggesting that their might be something wrong with the hard drive not sure what to do about that. I have zeroed out the HD twice as I herd that that figures out what memory blocks are still writable but it was of no help.
There is definitely something wrong and I need to test everything to make sure that it's working. I am running memtest as I speak. Is there anything I can do to check the performance of my HD?
The main problem I am having is that if I use software update, or try to install Snow Leopard the macbook reboots and sticks on the blue screen with a mouse. I have to reinstall the OS to get it to work again... this has happened a few times now. This also happens if I install a hardware demanding program such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and reboot.
For MacBooks with SSD drives and a SD card slot; is it practical to insert an "empty" SD card there and use it as spare flash memory to store files etc? Any downsides to doing this? Will the OS detect it like its a spare drive?
