MacBook Pro :: Mid 2012 Takes Forever To Shut Down And Restart?

Aug 30, 2014

I have a macbook pro mid 2012 non-retina (2.6 GHz Intel core I7 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) . I installed mavericks  10.9.4 and windows 7 through bootcamp. Almost every time I have to restart the computer, in order to use Windows, it just takes forever to do so. It is permanently stuck in the grey screen with the loading icon and eventually I have to shut it down manually.

Macbook Air Mouse And Keyboard Takes FOREVER To Resume From Sleep

Mar 23, 2012

My 13" Macbook Air (Late 2011) takes forever to resume from sleep. The screen is almost instantly on, but my mouse and keyboard will not function for another 10-15 seconds, anyone else have this problem? It's very annoying as the MBA's claim to fame is a two second resume from sleep.

PowerPC :: G4 Takes Forever To Sleep?

Jan 20, 2010

I've got a 1.5 GHz 15" PowerBook G4 with 2 GB RAM. Despite its age, this machine is quite good and, though slowly, does everything I need it to do. Within the past week or so, it's suddenly decided to take a very long time to go to sleep... about a minute or so. It does not matter whether or not I simply close the lid or give it the sleep command from the Apple Menu. Before this happened it took the computer about 1 second or so to get to sleep mode.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Emptying Trash Takes Forever

When I empty the trash in Lion it takes forever. There are 15000 -20000 files in the trash. They look to be coming from the Time Machine backups. Everytime I clean them out they come back.

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 Takes Forever To Export Projects

Aug 25, 2014

I have one of the fastest macs available at the moment with full RAM and this new update is crippling my machine. I first dealt with the audio plug ins issue - then deleted those - now I have full functionality BUT - an incredibly slow export time on a 7 minute timeline. This thing should be zippy. I think this update is not so great.

IMac :: OSX Start Up - Blue Screen Takes Forever

Dec 16, 2010

-Got the iMac refurbished in mid-2010 (2009 iMac i5)
-Originally planned on mainly using Windows, so I partitioned the drive to 750gb for Windows and the rest for OSX

I eventually got fed-up with certain things about both Windows and certain limitations/glitches within Bootcamp itself and decided it was time to go OSX, and use the machine properly in all it's Apple glory.

I removed the 750gb of the Windows 7 partition, restoring the whole thing back to OSX. At this point, my computer seemed to be working fine still- OSX would boot up in about a minute or so, nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. After that, I still wanted a small partition with Windows 7; so I partitioned 100gb of my drive and proceeded to install Windows 7. During the Windows 7 installation, as had happened the first time I installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp, I got the "Black Screen" issue. If you are unfamiliar with the issue, see here:.......................

Software :: Uploading Website Takes Forever On Safari

Feb 23, 2010

Uploading my site to my computer (also to my husband's iPhone -- the newest model) takes forever, the slide-show won't work most of the time -- as if it's frozen, clicking on individual images, does not work repeatedly. It is as if the sit has uploaded incorrectly. When I re-load (exit the site and attempt again) because the uploading icon is spinning, it takes, again, much too long and the problem is not corrected. Is there anything I can do? [URLs]

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Removed User Account Safe And Takes Forever

Mar 2, 2012

I bought a new macbookpro and tried to move my large Iphoto library with migration assistent. The assistent created a new user account. It wasn't nessesary because I will be the only one to use this computer. The process of removing (not only the user, but also the 45gig home folder) takes forever... Now more than 24hours and I can't shut down system preferences. Can I interrupt this process, without affecting my admin account, and re-delete the user in the normal way? (Without the safe-option that overwrites 30 times the things I want to delete) And how? I know it's best to leave it alone, but time is a factor.

IMac (Intel) :: Keeps Restarting / Finder Takes Forever To Display Files

Jun 26, 2014

my work computer (Windows), but my 2012 iMac that I've had for 2 years has worked flawlessly up until recently. A few days ago it started taking forever to display files in finder. I had to keep relaunching, and it would freeze. I tried the workaround that was posted here but that didn't work either. It went away for a few days, but last night it really came back with a vengeance. The relaunch finder trick only showed the current folder, while navigating to other folders would simply show the loading icon forever.

Also, my iMac was shutdown for over an entire day yesterday, and when I turned it on the " Your computer restarted because of a problem". came up. I've never experienced this problem before, but after 3-4 tries it finally logged in to the Home screen. This is when I noticed the above (finder problems) returning from a few days ago after being absent. The finder issues continued, so I restarted the mac, and it just kept cycling over and over (reboot, try to load, auto-reboot, etc.).

Is this an issue with the HDD? I did a disk utility check the other day and it said everything was in great shape.

OS X :: IMac 10.6.3 Takes 15 Minutes To Reboot?

Apr 8, 2010

For about a week now, every time I boot my iMac mid-2007 20" running 10.6.3 I get the following problems

-Booting takes about 15 minutes of seeing the apple logo, and a bar that fills slowly under it...

-When it finally boots all the dock icons are reset to the ones you get with a brand new mac, spaces and expose is reset as well.

-Spotlight reindexes Macintosh HD.

-Adium loses all contact icons

-Mouse loses all it's custom settings.

-Login items are gone, I have tried not to re-enable those.

-Shut down takes about 10 minutes as well, while I see only the blue screen of shut down...

It seems that it is losing more and more settings every day. Today I had to turn on time machine again, although it was on before shut down...

Is this like losing an application support folder or something like that?

Applications do not seem intact as well.

Safari loses all web screenshots from cover flow iTunes reupdates the library etc....

What's up witn all these?

OS X Yosemite :: IMac Slow And Reboot Takes 5 Minutes

Dec 8, 2014

I updated my late 2012 27" iMac from the latest Mavericks to Yosemite.  now it takes 30+ second between mouse click and action.  For example, if I click on iTunes it takes 30 seconds to a minute before iTunes opens.  I get the pinwheel while waiting.  I rebooted and the startup hangs on the progress bar for several minutes, then black screen for several minutes, then eventually gets to desktop.

MacBook :: Browser Pages Take Forever To Load

Feb 27, 2012

Every time I open Safari or Firefox, the pages take forever to load.  I keep getting the color wheel and often have to force quit.  I don't think it's the internet signal because I've tried it in 2 different locations (home and work) and the results are the same. I can't load videos (like those on Hulu). My computer memory is about half full, so I don't think it's that. This is a recent problem (within the last week).

MacBook :: Application Taking Forever To Launch (Getting Beachballs)

Oct 16, 2010

I have a late 2006 MacBook (the one in my signature). It's running the latest issue of Snow Leopard (10.6.4). I have upgraded the factory RAM from 1GB to 2GB, and the factory HDD from 120 GB with a 320 GB hard drive. Lately, all my apps are taking forever to launch. Firefox took 27 bounces before stopping, and then another 10 seconds or so before the window actually appeared. VirtualBox used to be snappy and responsive, but now it's so slow I actually boot up my 8-year old Dell if I need to use Windows. It never used to be this slow.

I'm constantly getting beachballs...even simply quitting Firefox seems to be too much work. Just for kicks, I popped in the factory hard drive and WOW everything felt so much smoother. As far as I can tell, the only things that are different between that hard drive and my current one are that (1) the old one is running Leopard (10.5.6), and (2) I have created a secondary account on the newer setup for my fiance. My two best guesses at this point are:
1. Issue with the new hard drive?
2. MacBook is slightly underpowered for running Snow Leopard?

Mac Mini :: Certain Websites Take Forever To Load?

May 25, 2010

For some reason, certain websites (like IGN, Mac Rumor Forums, Gamespy) take 5 minutes or longer to load on my Mac Mini than on my other machines. I have a PC running Vista, Mac Book Pro, iPhone, and iPad and they have no issues loading these websites normally. Both my Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro are running the exact same setup and have 10.6.3. This happens with in both Safari and Firefox. It isn't my wireless router because the other machines are fine and don't have this issue. I did however reset the router a few times to see if that might be it... and no go. Still the same. I have the latest versions of the browsers too.

Applications :: Why Chrome Take Forever To Open Certain Site

Feb 25, 2010

I really don't have a feeling that Chrome is as fast as people claim it to be. For example, each time I try to open Macrumors forum website it takes like 8-10 secs for Chrome to load the page!! (In Safari it takes 2-3 secs.) I've noticed Chrome will often display "Resolving host..." msg first, then it will take you to the site of your choice. Something must be wrong with my browser, but I really don't know why - I just installed it anew, but no change. (Btw, I've read somewhere that turning off the DNS setting in Chrome will help speed things up, but it didn't seem to help when I tried it...)

Applications :: IPhoto / Faces Circling Arrows Forever?

Oct 30, 2009

I have iLive 09, recently upgraded from 08. I thought I'd play around with Faces, so I tagged about a dozen or so pics of my son's face.

It has been stuck on "KID may also be on the photos below" with the two spinning arrows for about a day. I see my CPU is running heavy the entire time on Activity Monitor with Iphoto taking most of the clicks.

How long does this usually take? or is this stuck in some bizarre loop and I'd best re-install iPhoto.. Going to let it run for another night (hope it doesn't get TOO hot!!)

I have about 13K photos when I select all and it gives me a count. That may be part of the issue.

Software :: Time Machine (Waiting To Backup) Forever

Jun 5, 2010

Time Machine states: "Waiting to Backup", and never backs up. I first set up a backup drive last Friday, it is now the following Wednesday and a back up has never been performed. I have a another identical system, identical external hard drive, and it backs up with no problems. External hard drive is Cavalry brand 1TB, SATA HDD, plugged in USB, formatted for GUID Partition table and Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and seems to operate fine other wise. I've restarted the computer several times, ran disk permissions repair, and verified the boot dive.

I've also reformatted the back up drive twice. The back up drive is named "MacPro2Backup", the boot drive is names "MacPro2 HD", both with no special characters. This is the first time I've tried to set up a Time Machine back up on these computers (as stated before, the one computer works, the other doesn't). These computers have been working since January when we bought them used from someone who claims they work with no problems. We use these for design in a print/production environment.

OS X :: Unable To Shutdown - Freezes (Wheel On Bottom Spins Forever)

Dec 18, 2010

Sometimes, when I try to turn off my computer, it doesn't shut down. It would either quit all programs (including finder) and just show the wallpaper, or it would go to the blue-ish screen (a normal phase in the shutdown process) and the wheel on the bottom would spin forever. In either case, the computer just freezes at that point and I have to power cycle it manually.

I noticed that this occurs more frequently if I don't restart it for a couple of days (3-4 days max), but my friends are able to go on without a restart for 2-3 weeks at a time. I tried reinstalling OS X to no avail. I now also quit all my programs manually before I try to shutdown (don't know if they affect anything) but that does not appear to help. I'm using a late 2008 MBP with OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)
