after upgrade to lion, 2010 battery life dropped from 8-9 hours to 3-4 hours?

For about a week now, every time I boot my iMac mid-2007 20" running 10.6.3 I get the following problems
-Booting takes about 15 minutes of seeing the apple logo, and a bar that fills slowly under it...
-When it finally boots all the dock icons are reset to the ones you get with a brand new mac, spaces and expose is reset as well.
-Spotlight reindexes Macintosh HD.
-Adium loses all contact icons
-Mouse loses all it's custom settings.
-Login items are gone, I have tried not to re-enable those.
-Shut down takes about 10 minutes as well, while I see only the blue screen of shut down...
It seems that it is losing more and more settings every day. Today I had to turn on time machine again, although it was on before shut down...
Is this like losing an application support folder or something like that?
Applications do not seem intact as well.
Safari loses all web screenshots from cover flow iTunes reupdates the library etc....
What's up witn all these?
I updated my late 2012 27" iMac from the latest Mavericks to Yosemite. now it takes 30+ second between mouse click and action. For example, if I click on iTunes it takes 30 seconds to a minute before iTunes opens. I get the pinwheel while waiting. I rebooted and the startup hangs on the progress bar for several minutes, then black screen for several minutes, then eventually gets to desktop.Â

I installed 10.7.4 on an iMac that was running an 10.7.3, and which was updated only last weekend. After 10.7.4, the computer indicated I had to reboot. after the reboot, I hear the chimes, then only a gray screen. Nothing else. Tried safe mode by holding down shift key after chimes, but problem persists.
View 12 Replies View RelatedDuring startup, my Macbook Air 2011 sits at the grey screen with Apple logo and spinning gear for at least an hour before prompting me to log in.In the last few weeks, the time it took to get past the grey screen increase to roughly 10 min, but in the last couple of days its grown even longer. My Macbook Air has also often failed to resume from sleep and required a reboot.

My Air (2010, OS X) takes 2 hrs to boot. No peripherals, 4 GB unused. After booting the cursor is active but any action (eg opening app) results into beachball. Restart takes another 2hrs.

I just ran my battery down last night and left it over night to re-calibrate. I plugged it back in at 11am and it's now 5pm and I'm still showing a half hour to finish the charge. That's nearly 7 hours to fully charge the battery. Madness. Is this normal or is this worthy of a visit to the Apple Store?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro seems to take long to start any application, especially when it was in standby. I bought it in 2009 and wanted to use iCLoud. Therefore I bought Snow Leopard, Lion and new version of iPhoto. Is it just the consequence of the upgrades that are too heavy for the "old" processor?

I just upgraded my Macbook Pro 13.3 (late 2011)'s RAM to 8gb i did everything correctly and rebooted it worked great, i then downloaded a new software update and restarted it and took forever to reboot.

Right now my MBP is setting idle (except for this process of course) and the fans are screaming at 5607RPM. I'm having this happen more and more lately. Anyone have an idea of what is causing it?
Attached is a screen shot that shows what is running. NETserver is using almost 70%. Why? It usually takes a reboot to get the fans back to normal.
Just wanted to check if he problem was unique to my MBA (Rev B, HDD) or you notice it too ;
My Time Machine backup takes up to 6 hours to do a backup of about 30GB. And each backup size is 31.5GB everytime !!
I have the following Config - 80 GB for OSX (53GB Free) and 40 GB (10GB Free) for Win 7 on Bootcamp. Sometimes I wonder if TM making a backup of Win 7 also everytime. (Does it mean - In a way its good, that means I should be able to restore the entire hard disk from TM including Applications, Win 7 , bootcamp and all the programmes installed in Win 7 in case I have a problem ?)
But the speed should still be fast... 6 hours to do a 32GB backup is torturous specially because then I have to leave the machine alone and cannot use it.
I've just done an install of lion from snow leopard on my IMac. Now when I reboot, I just get the grey brushed aluminum background and apple logo slightly higher than centre and a black arrow cursor. No desktop, no login options, nothing else whatsoever appears on the screen. I've tried resetting the pram, and to access the lion recovery mode (command r on boot up) but this does not even appear. All I can get is the same empty screen and arrow cursor.

I have installed my hard drive from a previous but terminally I'll iMac that was running Snow Leopard into a Sata to USBÂ enclosure. This is displaying on the desktop of my new iMac running Lion as an external Hard drive, also system preferences sees it as a start up source. My question is , is it safe to restart into Snow leopard without causing a kernel panic and if it does boot will it be fast enough to use as it as a USB drive.

My MacBook crashed end of last year after an automatic OS upgrade. Unfornately I could not my original Mac OS install DVD (Tiger 10.4). Then I searched for a Mac OS Install DVD torrent from ThePirateBay and downloaded a 'Mac OS X Install DVD.toast' file. But it still can't reboot the computer. I would like to know where to get the right OS and reinstall the system ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow I can upgrade the OS on an Intel iMac from 10.4.11 to 10.7 Lion? I have the following OS install discs: 10.5.6, 10.6 (Snow Leopard) & 10.7 (Lion) but it won't let me upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.6! You'd think I have enough discs to do the job.

I accidently deleted some file on my computer that wouldn't let me start up my MacBook pro, 13 Inch, so I had to press Command- R at start up (brought me to Lion Recovery) and I choose reinstall lion and I started it yesterday morning and all day and over night. It's barely half way through and it says "148 Hours Left" which is crazy.. Should I just wait? is this normal? what do I do?

I forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2007 iMac (upgraded to 4GB RAM and 2TB HD). I have a Freecom Quattro Dock which allows me to hot swap hard disks, and it's connected to my iMac via Firewire 800. I use it to backup my internal HD. I backed up my iMac HD and then proceeded to upgrade from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 which appeared successful, but now my iMac cannot see the disk connected to the dock via the Firewire 800 port. The dock has USB 2 and Firewire 400 connections, and it works fine via Firewire 400.

I have a fairly new iMac (mid-2008 20" model) with a 2.4ghz Intel processor. I am a web designer and use this machine every day for my work. Several months after installing Adobe Creative Suite 3, I noticed that Photoshop was causing the cursor to jump and/or become jerky, as if the video card or processor were not keeping up with what's going on. This tends to happen after the computer's been in use for several hours or days after a restart. I have been following this in Leopard's Activity Monitor, and I noticed that Photoshop (being memory- and processor- hungry) taxes the processor more heavily than many other programs, which I expected. The strange thing, though, is that over time the Activity Monitor shows the "System" as taking up more and more processor capacity. I.E. when I first start up, the system is using 0-20% of the processor, the rest being available for the user; but after awhile, the system is requiring 50-90% of processor capacity, the result being that as soon as I switch into Photoshop from another program, the system is immediately overtaxed and starts moving very slowly (especially the cursor, as I said).
Now, here's the really strange part. As I said, this began happening a few months after I first installed Adobe CS3. I re-installed the software at Adobe's recommendation, and it was fine for another few months, but it began happening a few days ago, which is exactly the same time I shared a jump drive with a friend's worm-infected Windows XP machine. I know Macs don't get Windows worms, but is it possible that this thing has lodged itself on my system somehow and is causing it to run generally more slowly?
just purchased a new 27" Quad core i5 and it takes about 5 seconds for it to go to sleep, and then makes a loud noise after.
My hard drive is also noisy, it whines and drums constantly.
I also have got yellow tint on all sides of the screen.
I live in NZ so if i will not get a new replacement, instead it will be sent away to apple which will take forever
by the way it is the older 27" (late 2009) version.
I bought this Mac version 10.5.8 with PowerPC processor from a friend. Can i upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion? and would it work?

i have an iMac on 10.5.? something.. and i want to get it back to factory setting and upgrade it to lion, as im half way to selling it to a friend. It needs reformatting asap really as he already managed to get that flash trojan on in within his first 2 days of having it, and its already had some mileage that could do with being reset anyway. i also what what i wanted to know how to upgrade to lion without having to get snow leopard as well. i know i need to install some more ram which im in the process of getting from Crucial.com. i just need to know about how to bypass snow leopard.
