Apr 18, 2012
Ever since looking for viruses and installing the new java fix, it takes about 3 minutes for the sign-on screen to appear. I went to utiliites and all is ok with permissions and the hard drive.

-Got the iMac refurbished in mid-2010 (2009 iMac i5)
-Originally planned on mainly using Windows, so I partitioned the drive to 750gb for Windows and the rest for OSX
I eventually got fed-up with certain things about both Windows and certain limitations/glitches within Bootcamp itself and decided it was time to go OSX, and use the machine properly in all it's Apple glory.
I removed the 750gb of the Windows 7 partition, restoring the whole thing back to OSX. At this point, my computer seemed to be working fine still- OSX would boot up in about a minute or so, nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. After that, I still wanted a small partition with Windows 7; so I partitioned 100gb of my drive and proceeded to install Windows 7. During the Windows 7 installation, as had happened the first time I installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp, I got the "Black Screen" issue. If you are unfamiliar with the issue, see here:.......................

MAC PRO 2.8 quad-core Intel
4 x 1GB
2 X 500GB 7200 ATA
ATI RAEDON HD 2600 XT 256MB dual link DVI
16X superdrive
Computer froze today, it was running fine this morning. I went to restart it and now it won't restart. No history of this happening before. It will shut down if I force it, but it will not boot up. After I turn it on, it starts up as normal with a chime and goes to the grey screen with the Apple Logo and spinning wheel. But then the Apple Logo becomes a Circle with a Slash through (international "no" symbol), the spinning wheel remains spinning. And then it just stays like that wheel spinning and "no" symbol. I've tried starting it holding down "shift", holding "option-command-p-r", holding "d", holding "c", and holding "option"... with the same results each time. I ran Disk Warrior on all the disks and tried staring up with no external drives and I've cleaned it thoroughly of dust.

I am new to Mac, I always had PC's, but yesterday a friend gave me a 20th anniversary Mac, he said it's old and haven't been used for ages. Well, I pulled it out of the box and thought this is a Cool Piece of Computer, plugged it in, but couldn't find the" On button". I did some research on the net and watched a couple of Video's on YouTube, first I was very surprised that this is some kind of fancy Mac, certainly looks good, keeping in mind the age, this was for sure way ahead of his time.
Long story short, the "Start button" on the right side top corner of the keyboard does not start the computer, to start it, I have to unplug the keyboard and reconnect it. After this is done, it appears to me that the thing is running fine, sound, video, tv, radio, touchpad, all the keys from the keyboard, everything works great besides starting the machine. One more thing, the Bios battery is bad, I had no change yet of getting a new one, could this be the reason?

I was just using my 13" MBP and using Parallels when the whole computer locked up. I had to turn off the computer by holding down the on/off button. Unfortunately, now the computer will not start up in OS X. Interestingly, I had linked my Windows side of the computer so that it can be opened in Parallels or Bootcamp; I can get the Bootcamp Windows side to start up with no problems (I'm using it now to write this).

My comp. has worked perfectly, Then I installed some updates, Itunes i think? And the comp. Shut down, and when it restarts it works for a min or two, then freezes, and i get the beach ball, that just spins around and around forever.
if I don't try to open anything, or do anything when i restart it, it will just shut down, and restart, then when it comes to the Grey screen with the apple and the little circle below it, the circle looks all pixilated, and just freezes
that is the version its on (Taken two days ago, and sent to a buddy for other reasons completely)

I am new to MAC and in this forum.Lately I've had problems with my Mac Book Pro (15 "OSX 10.7.3) especially now that I made the OSX update. Is inhibited if the computer is idle and we must force it off, holding down the power button.Â
When the computer is restarted, usually three things happens:
1) The computer boots normally
2) Shown instead of the apple icon, an icon with a "-" and never starts, or
3) It shows a progress bar process that takes a long time in advance and then boots normally.I need to know how to do a clean install and reinstall the programs useful, considering that I have no Lion operating system on a DVD, as this was bought from Apple online store.

Powermac G4 MDD Originally had 2 hard drives -- 60GB (jumpered as master) and 40GB (jumpered as slave)
The 40 GB failed and the 60 GB was diagnosed as failing so I purchased used Seagate 160 GB ATA/100 Hard driveÂ
I installed the new 160 GB Hard drive in place of the 40 GB HD and used SuperDuper to clone the still working 60 GB drive. The files were all copied to the drive and the drive showed up on the desktop as a hard drive icon, and it was recognized in the System Profiler. However, I could not select it as the startup drive from the System Prefs window.Â
I then took out the 60GB drive and replaced it with the 160 GB drive jumpered as cable select and now the computer won't start up (flashing question mark).Â

My roommate just lost his data, so I realized I needed to back up. I plugged in an external hard drive (it was an internal that we put into casing bought from OWC, if that matters). I wasn't thinking about Time Machine but it displayed a message, so I said yes, backup onto the hard drive. Then while it was backing up I was just reading a document, the machine crashed. I swiveled my desk to get something and this caused the external hard drive to fall, for a second it was dangling from the USB. (I'm not sure if that's relevant but.)
I first restart (held down the power button), since nothing was happening. At that point the hard drive was making a weird rhythmic clicking sound. Then it wouldn't start up! I tried this twice. Blank gray screen. I reset the PRAM (was that a bad idea?) and when it started again, I get a folder icon with a blinking question mark, over a gray background. Then I freaked out because this was what happened to my roommate, so I haven't touched the computer since.
What could have gone wrong? What to do now? (Local help centers only open on Monday..) Is it worth it to take a train for an hour to go to an apple store right now?

It does not register when new programs are opened. They open, but there is no indicator light under them. Programs that are not open anymore still have an indicator light. Also, I don't have any notifications for email or other messaging programs even though I do have new emails and messages.

I have safari set to open up when I boot up my computer using the login items for my user account.
But when I start up my computer, instead of opening up a window, it starts up safari in the dock, but never actually opens a window. When I click on the icon in the dock the page will open up. Its acting as if I hid(CMD+H) the page. I know safari is open and it loaded the homepage, but the window wont actually open.
I've tried it on two different computers, Macbook pro, mac pro with same issue on both.

this isn't an isolated issue - there are threads about this over at Apple and InsanelyMac: I'm unable to install Snow Leopard. When I run the installer, it'll tell me that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer" (Macintosh HD being my OS X volume, obviously). I'm seeing this issue on a relatively new 1.8ghz Macbook Air with a 128gb SSD - however, as far as I can tell from the other threads, the problem also affects iMacs and Macbooks.
Some people apparently attributed the issue to a PGP installation they had on their harddrive. Others found a file called backup.backupdb in their root - deleting it fixed the problem. However, most people don't have any of that installed on their computers and the upgrade still won't work. - if anyone has found a solution to the issue, please let me know :-( I'm stuck here. I don't have an external drive for the MBA and booting from a network drive has never worked on this particular machine - so I can't do a clean install, either.

When i start the computer and the grey screen comes up with the apple logo etc., a grey "loading" bar has started appearing in the bottom of the screen. Takes a few minutes for it to go away. In the meantime the computer gets very hot and the fans are up to 6000 rpm. Then the os starts up, and I cannot download anything, due to the fact that it thinks my harddrive is full, though i have more than 100 gb of free space.I cant even download the 10.6.2 now due to the harddrive appears to be full

In the last few days, when I hit a key to start up the computer, all I will get is a blank screen with the small, multi-colored, rotating disk icon. I can't get out of this unless I hold the power key down for about 5 seconds, which I know is probably not the right way to shut down.
