MacBook Pro :: I7 Taking Forever To Wake Up When Battery Dies - C2d Didnt?
Jul 26, 2010
So when my mbp shuts off after the batter dies and I plug it in and press the power button it takes awhile for the screen to come back on, and then for the little white bar at the bottom, and then when everything is back, I cant use any apps for a minute or two because they won't open. My c2d mbp would just wake right back up and be ready to go.
I have a late 2006 MacBook (the one in my signature). It's running the latest issue of Snow Leopard (10.6.4). I have upgraded the factory RAM from 1GB to 2GB, and the factory HDD from 120 GB with a 320 GB hard drive. Lately, all my apps are taking forever to launch. Firefox took 27 bounces before stopping, and then another 10 seconds or so before the window actually appeared. VirtualBox used to be snappy and responsive, but now it's so slow I actually boot up my 8-year old Dell if I need to use Windows. It never used to be this slow.
I'm constantly getting beachballs...even simply quitting Firefox seems to be too much work. Just for kicks, I popped in the factory hard drive and WOW everything felt so much smoother. As far as I can tell, the only things that are different between that hard drive and my current one are that (1) the old one is running Leopard (10.5.6), and (2) I have created a secondary account on the newer setup for my fiance. My two best guesses at this point are: 1. Issue with the new hard drive? 2. MacBook is slightly underpowered for running Snow Leopard?
The battery on my MBP (2007 2.33 Core 2 Duo) has started to die, just like the three others that came before it. It seems like it's only been a year or so since I got a new battery. Yesterday, I was using it unplugged and the computer shut off when the battery was around 58%. I have never seen a battery shut off that early. The worst I had seen before that was a previous battery that would die around 35%.
A couple questions:
1. Is there something I am doing that is causing my batteries to keep dying so quickly? An Apple Genius told me that keeping the computer plugged in all the time can burn out the battery. I don't really want to bother putting the computer through unnecessary charge cycles to keep up the battery life.
2. Is there any way to recoup some of the lost battery life of my current battery, or is it just dead?
3. In replacing the battery, should I buy another Apple battery from the website, or are there better quality 3rd party MBP batteries?
4. On a side bar, I am thinking about purchasing a new MBP, but I am worried that the battery will have the same problem, and it will be much more of a hassle to fix because everything is internal now. I hate having to hand my computer over to Apple Care for a whole day and be without it.
I am trying to import 403 pics from my iPhone 4s/iOS 7.1.2 into Aperture 3.5.1 on iMac running OSX 10.9.4. Â
All of the pics are showing up in Aperture and have been removed from the iPhone, but the pics are not going into the new project folder I created to hold these. The library lists the folder, but the Projects Viewer shows it nowhere. Â
There is a spinning gear at the bottom of my Aperture screen labeled "Importing..." and the clock indicates nearly completed import. Aperture seems hung up and has been importing for more than a day now.Â

I'm not too technically savvy when it comes to computers. I do amateur video editing with Final Cut Pro. I purchased a Mac Mini (2.0ghz, 1GB RAM, base model) and it's taking forever to render my 1.8gb clip. I think total render time with some music is about 1.5 hours as opposed to my old computer (a 2.4ghz penryn mbp, 2gb ram) which would do it in maybe 10 minutes I'd assume. My question to you all is, is my unit defective? Will upping the ram increase the clock speed or am I way in over my head purchasing this unit?
Today I started a brand new MacBook Pro for the first time and followed the on-screen prompts to transfer data from an older Mac (MBP 2.16GHz Core2Duo running 10.6.8) via firewire. The procedure was different from the one I am accustomed to, which involves starting the old machine in target disc mode. This time, I was instructed to open Migration Assistant on the old MBP and select "from this Mac". This I did, whereupon it appeared that Migration Assistant on the new MBP established a connection with the old MBP, which was already connected to the new MBP with a Firewire cable. But once the transfer started, it progressed at a snail's pace. It started almost 5 hours ago and will very likely continue all night long. It occurred to me that the transfer is proceeding as though it were taking place over wi-fi.
Is it possible that OS X Lion took it upon itself to connect with the old MBP over wi-fi even though the two machines were wired together via Firewire? I do not recall having any opportunity to explicitly select Firewire as the transfer mode.
I have a mid2009 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 Ghz with an 1TB in the main bay and a Verbatim 128GB SSD in my optibay. I also upgraded my RAM to 2x 4GB. It runs the latest Lion version.
Here is my problem:Â
When I work on my battery and there's no power left, it automatically shuts down. Right? The sleep/wake light lights until the battery is out of power. If I then try to reboot, the Apple and a loading-bar appear which shows that it is recovering the previous session so that I can continue where I left (right?).
The problem is that it fails at 1/3rd of the bar and the screen goes black. After resetting PRAM and the other resettable things, it still won't boot on that partition.
I tried to repair from an external Lion installation drive, my second partition (which also runs lion) and from the Recovery HD (of both partitions). I always get the same problem (see picture).Â
This is happening to me all the time. After several reboots i can acces my files again, but I still can't boot from my partition because it fails loading my last session. It certainly isn't the disks fault because I can boot from the other partition on that very same disk w/o any problems. Right now I'm trying to make an identical copy with Disk Utility (as described by Apple). Â
My question now is: Can I repair the partition by any means without reformating it (as I did the last times)?
Furthermore: Can I just disable the function that tries to backup/restore my last session so that my MBP just shuts down or does a hard shutdown when the battery dies? Â
PS: My Time Machine drive is at the moment not available, so I couldn't backup in a while, I need the files.
You know how when the battery dies the mac restarts in the exact way you left it? well, i was wondering if there was any way that i could put in that mode on my own (without pulling out the battery or hurting the mac).
When I turn on my Macbook it does not go past the initial screen with an apple and spinning wheel. I took out the battery but am wondering if I need to do something special when turning it on again?
I have a macbook pro. My machine won't wake up at all. Battery is being charged on regular basis. I have tired to hard boot but all i hear is sound of machine booting up and shutting down. Â Is there ant possible way I can get my display back on my machine? When i close the lid, the indictor light is blinking slowly but as soon as i open the lid cover screen is always black. For last 5Â days I have tired to discharge the battery and charge again, attached a wired mouse to see if it might wake up my machine but with no luck. Â
finally got a mac, i've been flip floping between wanting everything from ibooks to unibody macbook pros. But i found a early 08 macbook on craiglist for $650, and took that.So I'm using it now and i have a few questions. I've been searching but cant find answers to everything. 1. the macbook didnt come with a restore disk, I'm i right to think i can get one from apple for ~$35?
This is retarted. According to Apple when I got my new Macbook Pro, I shouldnt have any problem installing Windows that unfor tunately I need to run AutoCAD. I choose Bootcamp to use all the resources of my MAC. It didnt let me install it but did it with Fusion. How retarded is that. OEM disk SP2.Then I got to Apple store and explain the problem. Dude over there says it should work. Exchange my Macbook for a brand new one and lets try again. Now I cant even load the same disk with Fusion. I go back to the store to buy a case and ask the question again. Now the answer is...Bootcamp wont accept an OEM Windows disk unless you get a copy which was never use.
Now this didnt always happen but as of lately my unibody macbook runing Lion has been dying without warning that my battery is low. It doesnt even go to sleep, it completely dies.
My MacBook Pro which is only a year old was working fine, the only small problem was that it wouldn't play a video, so I restarted it but it never came back on. So I restarted it manually, the small light on the edge lit up, the screen with the apple came up along with the load bar, the empty load bar flashes a couple of times then the computer totally shuts off. Have turned starting in safe mode, same thing. Have tried starting holding down apple + option + R + P when turning on, same thing, have started starting up with the install disc in, same thing..
I've got a 2gb MacBook Black, which is about 2.5-3 years old.
Last year (about October I think) I had the hard drive fail, at which point I got the IT guy in work to replace it with a spare from a similar machine. The new drive has just failed - it makes tick-tick noises when you try to boot up, and the ?-folder icon appears on the screen. The new drive is dated 2008, so it's not like it got an old wreck.
Could I have another problem that's killing hard drives? The only non-standard thing in the machine is a memory upgrade from [URL]. Are there any common user behaviours which would increase the risk of hard drive failures. The machine is left at home most days, and is always carried around in a padded sleeve/case.
The machine mostly gets used for internet browsing, with a bit of iTunes and photo organising, but nothing particularly heavy.
It's a Hitachi hard drive that was in it - I've ordered a Seagate as a replacement. If it dies I'll get a new machine, but I'm hoping I won't have to.
I posted something up a little while ago.. Just got this Refurb MBP 15.4" 2.66Ghz 320GB HD 9600 512MB And when my computer dies (0%) it doesn't go into regular sleep, so when I plug it back in I can't just hit the spacebar. I don't like this and want to be able to turn this off?
This only happens occasionally, but sometimes when I have my speakers plugged into my 2010 macbook pro, the sound just dies. If I unplug the speakers the sound comes through the built in speakers, but the only way for me to get the jack to work again is by restarting my computer.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a hardware or a software issue?
I bought the 15" Alum Pro model before they came out with the newer Unibody. Up until now it's been the best thing that ever happened to me. My problem is about 3-4 times during the workday the keyboard and trackpad both freeze causing me to manually power down. After it happened about 5 times, I decided to spend two hours on the phone with Applecare.Long story short...they had me check the ram and do a diagnostics on the hard drive ( I guess the equivalent to disk defrag?) Taking the battery out and going through a bunch of processes that all came back fine and after all that the problem persists.
MBP not booting up? I press the on button and the screen flashes for a moment and then it dies again... once I actually got it to some screen that said HD and Restore but when I clicked on HD it died immediately again...Â

My GF dropped her MacBook the other night, and since then Leopard would only be able to start in safe mode, and then be very slow accessing the hard drive. I figured the drive had died, but I decided to test it on other computer and it works fine.
Anyway, I did a fresh install of Leopard, which went fine and boots up, but any subsequent boot it dies. Booting in verbose mode, it comes up with some errors on the efiboot screen (I can't remember exactly what they were). I still have access to all the usual boot options etc.
So on a whim, I boot camped up the disk and installed Windows 7 to see what would happen. It installed fine, and works 100%. No complaints about anything at all (except there being Windows on there :P), all hardware functional!
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem Leopard (10.5 and 10.6) might be having? I've erased the drive several times, both quick and zeroed, repaired it and so on.
I just upgraded my Macbook Pro 13.3 (late 2011)'s RAM to 8gb i did everything correctly and rebooted it worked great, i then downloaded a new software update and restarted it and took forever to reboot.

Every time I open Safari or Firefox, the pages take forever to load. I keep getting the color wheel and often have to force quit. I don't think it's the internet signal because I've tried it in 2 different locations (home and work) and the results are the same. I can't load videos (like those on Hulu). My computer memory is about half full, so I don't think it's that. This is a recent problem (within the last week).
I have a macbook pro mid 2012 non-retina (2.6 GHz Intel core I7 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) . I installed mavericks 10.9.4 and windows 7 through bootcamp. Almost every time I have to restart the computer, in order to use Windows, it just takes forever to do so. It is permanently stuck in the grey screen with the loading icon and eventually I have to shut it down manually.

My 13" Macbook Air (Late 2011) takes forever to resume from sleep. The screen is almost instantly on, but my mouse and keyboard will not function for another 10-15 seconds, anyone else have this problem? It's very annoying as the MBA's claim to fame is a two second resume from sleep.
So, often than not my charger when I connect it to my mac will take forever to turn the little green/orange light on and so it won't charge I don't know what the issue is.
I was working in Illustrator when my screen went mosaic and scrambled, went purple, then black. Restarted the mac in safe mode and had the screen back for a few moments then it froze, scrambled and quit. Since then I have not successful rebooted with the desktop coming up. I think it may be the graphics card, (I hope), because it became quite loud before I shut the computer down. I hope it's neither the ram or the mother board.

I have been trying to correct an issue with my E-mac 1.25 Mhz., 1Gb ram and finally broke down and decided that the way to go was to reinstall the system.
All went fine and 10.3.4 now resides on my drive. I had previously downloaded and reinstalled the 10.3.9 Combo Updater. Now, when I double click on the dmg the Installer starts and dies.
