MacBook Pro :: Takes A Reboot To Get The Fans Back To Normal?
May 14, 2010
Right now my MBP is setting idle (except for this process of course) and the fans are screaming at 5607RPM. I'm having this happen more and more lately. Anyone have an idea of what is causing it?
Attached is a screen shot that shows what is running. NETserver is using almost 70%. Why? It usually takes a reboot to get the fans back to normal.
I just upgraded my Macbook Pro 13.3 (late 2011)'s RAM to 8gb i did everything correctly and rebooted it worked great, i then downloaded a new software update and restarted it and took forever to reboot.

Anyone else experiencing this? My fans have been going pretty much nonstop audibly since the 10.6 install. The "normal" for the fans is about 2000rpm, and now they RARELY dip under 3000, and the "new norm" is a very audible 4000-5000rmps.
A few days ago my MBP started spinning up the fans like I was doing something really intensive. Only I wasn't. I installed smcfancontrol and it reported both fans at close to 6000rpm (5899 is the highest I've seen it) and a cpu temp of 75 c - 85 c while idle. iStat Pro reported the same. No apps running after a reboot and the fans instantly spin up and the cpu temp hovers around the 80 mark. I'm of the understanding that 50 - 70 is considered normal with the fans in the 2000-3000 rpm range. Yes? Heres a screen cap with only Activity Monitor running. You can see the most intensive process is 3.5% and the temp and fan speed can be seen in the upper right.[URL]

I updated my late 2012 27" iMac from the latest Mavericks to Yosemite. now it takes 30+ second between mouse click and action. For example, if I click on iTunes it takes 30 seconds to a minute before iTunes opens. I get the pinwheel while waiting. I rebooted and the startup hangs on the progress bar for several minutes, then black screen for several minutes, then eventually gets to desktop.Â
My Mac is not starting and is asking me to reboot from the time machine however it is showing me that the latest complete backup is form September. Should I reboot from there and once I am in I will be able to rescue latest backups or should I re-install the OS? If I re-install the OS will I loose everything or will things still be there, including folders that were loose in the desktop as opposed to being inside the hard drive?
When I'm using my Macbook air in meetings or in classes, and it's unplugged, and it goes black because i stop using it for a second, then when I want to come back sometimes it comes back quicly, but others it just shows the cursor, but nothing else, for a big seconds, staying black, taking ages to come backÂ
This is driving me crazy. I have tried so many fixes but nothing has worked. Every time I hibernate / sleep my 2012 macbook air, the wifi drops and takes at least 20 minutes to come back on when I open the laptop again.Â
I can reboot, turn the wifi off and on, change preferences...everything. Nothing works.
This started very suddenly today. I was in finder looking through some pictures when my screen suddenly turned blue. After a second, it faded back to normally, so I continued what I was doing. After about 5 minutes, it happened again, but faded back. It's be less than a half-hour, I haven't touched the computer but the screen is turning blue than fading back every half a minute or so. Every now and then, the screen stays blue for about 20 seconds.
I keep having the screen turn blue and then suddenly go back to normal. It's a quick flash, totally random, repetitive during operation, no noises, and nothing else is interrupted. It does not restart, log off, or try to. Is it about to die?
I am having this weird problem. Suddenly my Trackpad refuses to accept all left clicks, also including the lower left real click. I can't do anything except booting into safe mode, then back to normal mode.
So my girlfriend boss wanted me to fix her computer. So I brought it home turned it on, and it didnt chime but it booted to the gray screen with apple logo/ slashed circle/and folder with a "?" So I made a USB Mac OS x bootable drive (FLASH) held down alt (try using a windows keyboard its fun) was able to select option and install a fresh copy. all seemed well was running really hot so I poped of the screen. HOLY MOLY! this thing is CAKED with dust, and I am not kidding it has literally piles of dust. So I ran updates, and did firmware updates. Turned it off for the night. Â
The next morning I went to radio shack and got Dust remove spray, opened it up made sure I was carful taking off the screen, and blew the sucker out. now its NICE and CLEAN. then i made sure I plugged everything in and turned it on. Drive spun like normal, Optical checked for a CD, and fans are also running normally. but no chime, no nothing stays as silent as normal but doesnt budge, it is like it hangs. Â
This is the problem I just bought a brand new 2009 iMac with 4 Gigs of RAM. I installed the iStat Pro app that shows whats running and how much things are going on. I noticed that the RAM indicator went from 4 GIGS of RAM to 940MB of RAM. I'm freaking out b/c this a brand new computer. Is there a solution to bring the RAM back to normal?
I installed Cleardock [makes the dock transparent] and I tried getting rid of it by going into user/library/preferences and deleting com.apple.dock.plist. However now my dock is still clear but also reflective [see pic]. So then I tried to reinstall cleardock then uninstall it but that didn't work [I did a killall Dock to reset it]. I also read on a forum how to restore my dock to the default but that just gave me back the default application icons. So how can I get my dock back to normal! And if it helps I have time machine back ups from before my dock was like this.
I got a PowerMac 2.66 GHz Quad Core Intel Xenon with a 640GB HD. The system is 10.6.8. For some reason the Time Machine back up takes ages since a few weeks. I deleteted allready a few older ones and the free space on the back up disk is about 122GB. Today it copied about 700MB and it took over 30 minutes. I'm preatty sure this was a lot faster before. get it quicker again or what can be a reason that it is so slow.
the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?
This is my first Mac so it's pretty much foreign to me. I was holding down control and accidently used two fingers to zoom on my track pad, and it zoomed in on my entire screen. How do I zoom out and get my screen back to normal?
How Do I get the mac minis dock and text size back to normal. I used it this afternoon and now tonight the size is huge and I nor the person who used it after me says he changed the size. I hate this jumbo sized text. I want the default size back.
So, i have this HP w2207 monitor that is amazing, but lately it has been randomly going black, then coming right back on as if nothing is wrong... its not trying to sleep or losing power because the indicator at the top is normal.
There is no regular interval, sometimes it will do it 2 or 3 times in a row, some days it won't do it at all.
My finder icon changed to a weird appearance. I didn't do anything for this. In other account its still normal, but I don't find any solution to put it back to normal.
I upgrade Mac OS 10.7.3. from a network with Lion Server in the office, using software update utility. I changed domain to access to upgrades and works fine. Now I am working our of the LAN, and every time request software update, show me a message saying "Cannot find nnnn.server.com", and can't make upgrades from apple's server. I changed domain, an clear lines, but message repeat. All the time search on software update server from office server. How can I change the software update server on Mac OS 10.7.3.
