I'm installing mac os x snow leopard onto my new hard drive that I installed into my computer. When I turn on the computer and start it up and tell the computer to boot from the disc I get the apple sign and the swirl at the bottom. Then the screen goes black and all I hear is the super drive working. It never moves past the black screen.

Imac has all the updates before I partitioned with bootcamp (52 GB) I inserted a Win 7 Pro 32 bit disc (OEM from newegg). It installed windows and auto rebooted, windows came up and auto booted again. All I got was a black screen, I think it just turned off. I tried powering the machine on and booted to windows, but a message asking if I wanted to boot normally or go into safe mode. Does anyone have an idea why I can't get past this step?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Mac and to forums. I am trying to install Win 7 with bootcamp. I have a new MacBook Pro and I have bought an OEM version of Win 7 Ultimate. I downloaded it and burnt it to a DVD. The DVD boots on a windows PC but I have the following when I try installing it with bootcamp 3 which came with the installed OSX 10.6: When clicking the "install windows" button the screen goes grey, the computer restarts and then the screen goes black and stays that way. The Windows installation screen never appears. I have tried many items listed in many forums but with no success. There seems to be many similar issues around but I have been unsuccessful using them.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.7.4 update and now my screen goes black. It is quiet random at times, but mostly goes black after a few seconds from wakeup. Pressing the space-bar restores the screen, then sometimes it goes black again almost immediately.
Anyone else having the same problem?

I'm doing this for the nth time now but because it's been so long I've forgotten how long it's supposed to take.
I ran Bootcamp assistant, and installed the windows disc. Next up is a black screen, with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
Been like that for 15 mins. Has it crashed or is it normal? It's on a brand new MBP so I'd expect it to be faster than when I used to do it on older MBPs
I just tried installing ubuntu via bootcamp. I went through the whole installation process then it asked me to restart. Black Screen for 5min. Manually restarted and my system would only start to another black screen that said GRUB, with no other options. I took the hdd out that I installed ubuntu on and I would get the same problem. Did this somehow change my bios/mac equivalent. Finally was able to get into osx by holding down left mouse button on startup (nothing else would work).
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro cannot boot pass the blue screen, all startup keys failed to work [URL]. If all I need is one successful boot to copy all my files off the hard disk. Should I:
A. leave it as it is and hope for the blue screen will eventually go away;
B. keep rebooting and hope for the computer will boot up correctly by chance; or
C. Power off and unplug everything, leave it overnight and try booting it again next morning?
I've heard some people could get their computer back to normal just by option C, which sounds weird to me. Is that possible? How does that work?
My macbook is driving me insane now. Just recently, my macbook has occasionally flickering screen and freezes after that. Yesterday, when I was watching youtube on fullscreen, it first has flickering screen, then freezes. So I hard booted it pressing the power button. Then, when I try to restart it, it won't boot pass the apple logo no matter what. Here's my macbook spec2007 Summer Macbook Pro 15"Snow Leopard 10.6 OS XI cracked my screen once, and got a replacement, don't know if that matters.
I've tried the following:Safe mood reboot, the progress bar goes about half, then disappears and stalls again.Booted in verbose mode but it gives a warning message: 'com.apple.driver. internal modem support declares no kernel dependencies; using com.apple.kernal.6.0'. Booted in Single user mood, and typed fsck for disk repair. After checking said the volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. But still won't boot pass the apple logo after restart.Boot with installation disk pressing C at startup.
Success after a few try: Opened Disk Utility and did disk repair (no problem found). Reinstalled Snow Leopard OS X 10.6. This time it booted with Finder and everything for a short while, then the screen flicker and freezes again (before I can backup anything!). Then, I can't reboot pass the apple logo again. When I try to reinstall Leopard OS X 10.5 with installation disk, the macbook seems to try to read the disk, but won't boot. I've got a CD stuck in the optical drive now.

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

So I have a DYNEX 21 inch HD TV conected up to my MBP via the VGA connection route. My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. I don't lose any of my information though when it does that. It just goes into a sleep mode I guess? Anyways, is this a feature from the lion update? Something standard?

When my MacBook Pro 13" i5 goes into screen saver mode, which is black, it won't return to normal mode. Tried all keys, trac pad, closing the lip and re-opening it, and it won't respond. The only thing that works is holding down power button for hard shutdown, then restarting it. It has happened 8 times in the last 2 weeks.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't start. If I'm holding in the power button, you hear the HD starting the boot. The instant I let go of the button the computer turns off. The longer I hold the button, the longer it attempts this process, until I get to the point where holding the power button would manually shut the computer down. Happens computer plugged in or on battery. Screen never changes from black screen.Â

It starts from the bottom and quickly flashes up the screen higher and higher each flash! i have read on some other pages it is a bad inverter on the inner core of the Macbook. So I think I know how to do everything.However, from my reading I gather that Zero Erase is a single pass random erase whereas 7 Pass is secure erase (and there is a 3 Pass secure erase option nowadays)?That got me wondering - does 7 Pass secure erase make 7 x single passes over the entire disk?If it does, then when the blue bar has extended a bit over a third of the way across the progress monitor (that little bar that indicates time left) it should have made 3 passes, which would be equivalent to 3 pass secure erase?Is that an option?Is it possible to stop part way through an erase (which is part of E & I)? My original disks 1 and 2 have OS X 10.4, with OS X 10.5 included as complimentary 3rd disk (because OS X 10.5 was just released at that time).I gather I need to erase with disk 1, then install disks 1 + 2, then install OS X 10.5.

I bought a new MacBook Air 13" on December 20, 2011. I do like it a lot, but I have one big problem (its big to me!) and question -- about 3 times per week since purchasing the MacBook Air while working / typing on the MacBook Air, the screen just goes black fir NO apparent reason!! It is like the battery is suddenly totally OUT of any power! But, the battery has plenty of charge, and no command or other key stroke nor any other activity that should cause this black screen has been done.

Just yesterday I was using my Macbook Pro - with Word and MSN in use - until it gave me a black screen. (Good thing Word auto-saved.)
The screen wasn't dimmed and the fan (or whatever was running) was still running. So I held down the power button to shut it down. When I turned it on again - and everything was okay - I thought it might have been the battery but yeah, it doesn't explain why the fan was still running.
It's fairly new. I don't play games and I rarely watch anything on it. I'm also very protective of it and don't download much... Which confuses/worries me on why a black screen would appear.
So does anyone want to share some insight on why this happened? Is it some 'normal' thing that eventually happens, because I've been looking around and found information with regards to this black screen problem and the Macbooks of those people seemed fine..
We just get a new mac air. We were trying netflix video, and the browser did not response. Now It get a black screen and can't start.
I tried to press power button, etc, but nothing works.
We are rather new to Mac world. What are the things I could try?
BTW, the Mac air comes with a power supply only. There is no DVD drive or thing like that. How do I re-install OS if I need to?
I have a black macbook that I got in Dec 2007. While I am using it, the screen will randomly going completely black and I have to move towards being closed until the screen works again. I think it is a short in the screen but I am not sure.
I was hoping someone else has had a similar problem and figured out how to fix it. I was also thinking about taking it into Apple or an Apple reseller to get it looked at but I am not sure how expensive it would be.
