I need to find a better download management application than Speed Download. Whenever I run speed, and download more than one file at a time, my memory usage skyrockets and maxes out. System runs VERY sluggish, and i basically can't use my MBP until downloads are done.
i've got a 6 year old 12 inch powerbook G4 1.33 ghz that has internet speeds around 5177kbps, but overall its a bit dated sooo I wanted something a bit more new. I recently picked up a white 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook, HOWEVER the internet wireless speeds on it is dismal in comparison. I'm getting download speeds on average around 405kbps and upload speeds are pretty much non-existant! I've matched both of them to the same internet settings and they are both running 10.5.8. So again I'm stumped and if anybody can give me some idea as to what to do, Id greatly appreciate it!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI generally get about 700kbs download speed, which is what my ISP (Sky uk) tells me I SHOULD have, but they also tell me that my router upload speed should be similar and it's not anywhere close to it.
View 19 Replies View RelatedSorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.

I am meant to be getting 10mb download speeds and get it on the Windows Laptop using both ethernet and wireless connections, however when I use the macbook I get 10mb download speeds with Ethernet but not with wireless. I have tried changing the DNS servers to OPEN DNS on both my router and macbook but this did not help. How to fix this problem and get my wireless speeds the same as my Ethernet speeds. I am running Leopard 10.5.7 and upgraded a few days ago, I also used software update to update the rest of my software.
View 14 Replies View Related im having a problem with really slow download speeds on utorrent.ive only just started using my mac for downloading torrents since my PC died, and im only getting about 6kbs from anything i try to download, my PC was connected to my router (BT Home Hub) through an ethernet cable, and it worked fine, so all i can think of its my Airport blocking access to Utorrent.
i read up on something called port fowarding, but i want to be sure about what im doing before i start poking around my mac
Slow browser speed on all browsers, but the downloading and uploading speed are normal according to speedtest.net. Ping is a bit high. Other computers in the house are fine.Already contacted ISP (Time Warner), modem is not the problem. Contacted Linksys router support, router is fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
Lately, my download speed has been unacceptably slow. Could I have downloaded some spyware or something by accident? Can you get anything like this from just being on a website or do you have to download and install it?

Me and my friend are on the same wifi connection, but his macbook (thats 1 year older than mine) downloads 10 times faster. I'm getting around 0.24 Mbps while my friend gets around 1,8 Mbps. My internet is really slow and I have trouble opening a lot of internet sites. I wonder if ive done something to my settings so that the download limit is limited or something.

Ok so i am using a macbook running snow leopard and up until recently my internet has been fast. download speeds at about 360 kb/s. Then this morning my download speed plummeted to about 15 kb/s. I have tried everything to fix this and have found no solution. The problem is in both firefox and safari. I am using wireless network for internet.

I took a speed test on speedtest.net which stated that my download speed was 9.7mbps which is what I'm paying for, but still my browsing speed is ridiculously slow on all websites.
I've tried using firefox and chrome but they all seem to be having the same problem.
I am connected by ethernet as airport has full connection but can't seem to load anything. I have also tried to configure my ethernet connection manually as i read that this would help the issue.

I can't seem to find anything that applies to me or I can understand. I'm currently using Transmission for torrents and Safari for browsing, but my general internet connection outside of downloads seems to be fine.
I purchased OS X Lion this afternoon and started the download, 5 hours later it's only downloaded 1.5gb and it's saying it's got another 9 hours to go!!?? The App store is downloading at 105kb/s (that is Bytes per second, not Bits per second). If I download something from iTunes or dropbox I get about 800kb/s. Why is the App store so slow?

Here is whats happening: my 3 y.o. 15 MBP is connected to external speakers (Bose MusicMonitor) and every time there is a sound, any system sound, say an email in, a volume chirp, or a Skype chirp, anything at all, I hear an audible POP, before hearing the actual sound, in fact the POP sort of overlays the sound. I hear the second POP sometimes, after the sound has sounded, so to speak, and sometimes the second one does not happen at all. To me it reminds me of the Pioneer Amp my dad used to have in the 70's, when you first turn that thing on, it would produce an audible POP. So, back to to this, it sounds like an amplifier POP by being awaken by the system, and I'm inclined to think it is the MBP's audio "amplifier" on its board. Oh, btw, both the speakers and the MBP's volume is set to low.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Unibody MBP (Late '08 - first model) running Snow Leopard. After the installation of SL and the upgrade to 10.6.1 (which I did in the same days), I have problems with my trackpad.
Basically, every once in a while the system ignores hard clicks for some minutes: if I tap it, the click is registered. If I press it down the click is not registered.
I do not think it's hardware-related: nothing happened and the noise/pressure/feeling are the same as before.Is there anyone else with a similar problem?
I was talking on skype. I attempted to open microsoft messenger for mac. It froze up the video on skype, but I could still hear the person I was talking to. Microsoft messenger failed to open, so I clicked okay on the error box.
A few minutes later skype froze up and I could no longer hear or see the person I was talking to. My mac was unresponsive and I could not get anything to close so I held the power button and shut it down. I waited for a few minutes and tried to re-boot. It took a few minutes and was still trying to boot, so I went and took a shower. I came back and it was fully booted, yet running very slow. Every application I tried to open would not open fully, I had to force quit anything I tried to open. Even "Finder" wasn't responding and had to be re-launched. As it stands now, I can't stand to try to even use my Mac because it runs so slow, and will not open any applications.
I can run Win7 perfectly in VMWare Fusion, but I can't Bootcamp into Win7 (my MBP will just reboot without ever getting to a Win load screen). I previously had Vista installed and could do both without any issues. I know that Apple hasn't yet released an update to Bootcamp, but I was under the impression that this had more to do with smaller items (sound, trackpad performance, temp management) than it did with outright catastrophic fail.

This is driving me crazy, so any help would be greatly appreciated.I am using an IBOOK G4, running OS 10.3.9. Never had any major problems with the computer itself I am currently living in Korea, and thus have very highspeed internet. However, on my Mac, it is running quite slow. There is no modem that I can reset, because the apartment building is already wired so my ethernet cable connects directly into the wall. A friend came over to test the connection (speedtest.net) with his PC and he was downloading 60,000 KBPS, when I plugged in my MAC I was downloading at 15,000 KBPS. He downloads various things at around 2mb/s and I sometimes only get 50 kb/s.

When i was using xp, my macbook (running leopard) picked up my shared folders on my home network just fine, and several other wireless networks... now despite having the shared folders in vista set up and the network configured... leopard is showing nothing....its as if there's no network there.
the internet runs fine (on the network) but it won't access my shared files.. so there are no network problems, its a software issue either with vista or leopard... what am i doing wrong?
I have tried google, but I'm now resorting to macrumors.
Basically the I updated to 10.6.5 and updated to the latest Java. The problem I now have is with some statistics software called SPSS, it can't render graphs anymore because of the java update.
I've been struggling trying to fix the problem and I can't get it to work.
If I revert back in time machine will it change the system files back so that my software will work again??
Would it be better to do a clean erase and restore from time machine, do I need to use my SL disk for this?
Is anyone else having this issue. Always in the middle of a call it just cuts off. It always happens.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a new tab it leaves the new tab blank and changes the tab I'm already working on...doesn't do this all the time, but enough to make it irritating. Basically it makes additional tabs uselesss
Also, if I am working successfully in 2 or more tabs for a while it will freeze on the last URL I used on the newest tab and not allow me to go to any new pages on any of the tabs...the only solution to this seems to be quitting Safari and restarting..PITA
I really like Safari, but it's been doing this to me for a few weeks now. Gonna go back to Firefox for the time being and hope that a future update fixes it.
I don't know what my wife did to her 13" white MacBook, but Firefox is slow as molasses. Safari is working perfectly, but all of her bookmarks are in Firefox. I made sure she was on the correct network, than added opendns settings to DNS. I downloaded and installed the most recent Firefox and repaired permissions on the drive. I rebooted - same problem. Random beachballs causing the app to be useless. Safari works perfectly, so it's not an Internet issue. I haven't tried other apps to be sure but right now it seems confined to Firefox.

I tried PandoraJam, PandoraBoy, and PandoraMan, and none of them work right. I can listen to stations that I have already created, but I can not create a new station. Every time I try to type an artist or song in the box, it doubles every letter. For example say I wanted to search for "Train" If I try to type that in the search box it comes out "Ttrraaiinn." I know Pandora recently released their own App, so did they break 3rd Party apps, to promote Pandora ONE?

It was working fine until this morning. Whenever I click on an application in the dock, it opens up the applications folder. And whenever I click a link in firefox, it opens in a new tab, and is incredibly annoying!
As stated on subject, the fan in my PBG4 runs at max speed from the laptop starts. I have tried to reset NVRAM, PRAM, PMU, but no luck. The laptop is not hot at all.
